20. Roadmap and the Trail of the Girl's Shadow

In the third year of the strange era, the Snow Moon ship, the first ship to arrive at Storm Point in the deserted land, caused an uproar.

Every continent thought it was the only survivor, except for the shattered Lennon Islands.

The passengers on the Xueyue cruise ship are a mixed bag, including penniless poor boys, desperate businessmen, adventurers eager to explore, desperate nobles, and believers who spread the doctrine. Obviously, without exception, they all have the same quality.

:Gambler’s spirit.

The timid and those who are greedy for life and fear of death will not dare to cross the continent in strange times.

When it was confirmed that the ship was sailing from the ice-free port of Vina and that it was carrying only human beings, the passengers were warmly entertained. Poor boys became honored guests of nobles, merchants opened up new trade routes, adventurers received generous spiritual rewards, and nobles joined new circles.

, believers opened a new church.

All passengers were generously rewarded for being the first to eat crabs. The rumor that "no one can kill cats in the Hilleweg Mountains" also spread at this time.

The source is unreliable. It may be a banquet or drunken talk in a tavern.

The Hillevig Mountains are adjacent to the western and southern coasts of the Main Continent, or in other words, they are in the southwest corner of the Main Continent. The rolling mountains have shielded the local residents from the monsoon and humidity, but since the strange era has approached, the Hillevig Mountains have

Become the Locks Wall that blocks hope (Note 1).

The only easy road to the coast on the other side of the mountains is in the small town of Nice. The mountains cut out a gap a few miles away from the town, so people don't have to spend half a day climbing over the mountains.

So the indigenous people living around the mountains spontaneously migrated to the town of Nice or left the mountains to avoid the situation where there were fewer and fewer animals in the forest and it was difficult to hunt.

The formerly sleepy town of Nice has become lively, and the more than ten miles of dirt road leading to the coastline has even been repaired into a paved road.

There is an old proverb in the Hilleweg Mountains: The sun cannot penetrate deep forests.

This means that even if people are close to the mountains with rich products, there are still hunters who are hungry.

The town of Nice is no exception. Caravans and mountain residents on foot come to the town every day. The increasing number of mountain residents arriving also makes more and more hungry people.

Their presence turned the originally peaceful town of Nice into chaos, with numerous thefts, robberies, and even deaths. Even the mayor of the town organized a group of mature hunters to maintain law and order, which did not relieve the town much.

However, the new residents who moved in also realized that chaos would only make the town worse, so people tacitly reached a certain balance: in short, it was absolutely forbidden to hurt others.

Steal, rob, and plunder. The town acquiesces to the unsustainable poor to do this, but if they hurt anyone, the only thing waiting for them is hanging.

This is the only effort the small town can make in the face of dozens of times the number of people.

Although this kind of relocation would make any legal scholar frown, it did effectively alleviate the chaos in the small town of Nice, only for people.

The town of Nice is home to many animals.

Squirrels, wild dogs, cats, birds.

Because the road to the fertile coastline is not difficult, the residents of the town of Nice do not "eat what they catch" like other villages and towns in the Hilleweg Mountains.

Although a large part of the reason is that the residents of the town are original believers of the Church of Nature.

However, the migrating residents changed this peaceful coexistence. The first unlucky ones were the wild dogs, but these familiar little animals soon realized that the strangers in the town were different from the past. So some hid

They enter the homes of residents who are willing to take them in, and some run into the withered jungle and disappear forever.

Squirrels are not easy to catch, and it takes too long to wait to set up traps. Except for some unlucky squirrels that are caught unsuspectingly or killed with bows and arrows, most of them are safe.

So the most unlucky ones are the cats that live in small towns. They are not as "smart" and move in groups as dogs. Most of the day, they will just lie on the warm and dry rocks alone or in twos and threes.

Spend the day without opening your eyes even if someone passes by, like a group of cute and lazy elves.

As a result, they suffered a devastating disaster. Dirty hands easily grabbed them, and their heads were twisted off or their stomachs were cut open when the cats rubbed them lightly, thinking they were petting.

Among them are domestic cats and wild cats. After all, we all know that cats are not creatures that stay at home.

The local residents both hate and fear the outsiders who make the cats make miserable noises. Every day, the sad cries of children who have lost their companions can be heard in the houses in the small town.

All they can do is keep the doors and windows closed during the day to prevent the family's expert mousers from getting outside, and comfort themselves that at least the outsiders only killed the poor cats, not them.

There is no reliable evidence as to when the change occurred. Local residents believe that the incident occurred one month after the arrival of the new residents.

That afternoon, many residents in the town heard the miserable cry of a cat. Later in the account, some residents claimed that after the scream, they saw a lame pure black cat running away from the town.

The residents who saw this scene hated the outsiders and were happy for the cat that ran away. At least it had escaped the clutches of the hunter and would never approach this dangerous town again.

But the next day, people saw the black cat that was thrown out of the town yesterday with its hind legs wrapped in gauze, sitting in the center of the town, occasionally following some people, but would come back soon.

Some people tried to catch it, but the black cat always avoided it. The strange thing was that it would leave with the person who caught it. But it didn't take long for the black cat to come back again.

But soon people discovered the horrific truth: those who were followed by it all died tragically, some had their heads twisted off, some were thrown out of the abdomen, some were skinned, and some had their limbs twisted off

The residents began to panic, but then they discovered that the black cat would only kill those who had harmed the cat. Those people would be punished for harming the cat.

People agree that the person who killed the cat has offended the gods or some kind of being. Occasionally, some people claim to have seen the shadow of a girl holding a black cat at dusk.

The black cat left the town three days later and never appeared again.

But the indigenous people of the Hilleweg Mountains have reached a consensus and unanimously decided to issue this law to protect them, others, and cats.

That is:

In the Hillewegg Mountains, no one is allowed to kill cats.

Note 1: In 445, the Kingdom of Trelent launched an attack on the capital of the Kingdom of Rocks. King Henry XVI of Rocks ordered the city gate to be blocked, allowing the ten-meter-high city wall to become a moat to block the enemy. But Trerent used

The fire attack caused the city of Locks, which was mostly made of wooden houses, to burn and turn into a hell on earth. Hundreds of thousands of citizens were roasted alive.
