24. The migrating ghouls

Be careful when approaching areas where ghouls are crossing, as the plague-like rotten stench they bring has not dissipated.

The stench comes from the ghouls themselves, as well as the rotten flesh that falls off the food they carry.

Catalina covered her mouth and nose with a piece of cloth and gave a piece to Lu Li: "Let's go faster, the ghoul's rotten nose is very sensitive."

The plague breath carried by the ghouls will cause people to contract various diseases, and diseases are equal to death for most hunters without savings.

Quickly passing through the stench-filled area, Lu Li lowered his head to observe the ghoul's footprints. The three thick big toes connected to the flat and long soles were easily identifiable.

When she was far enough away, Catalina pulled off her mask and took a deep breath.

Next, the journey became faster - Katarina was worried that other hunters would discover the migration of ghouls and reach the town of Leviathan before them.

The first hunter to bring back the news will receive a generous reward, and the second one will get nothing.

Catalina's survival experience helped them avoid many dangers.

For example, a wooden house stands abruptly on a hill, existing without any cover in the wilderness. There are dim lights in the windows, the long pointed roof and the crooked-necked tree in front of the house look like a witch's cabin.

It couldn't be anything other than weird.

For example, in an area shrouded in fog, novice hunters or hunted hunters may rush in to seek refuge.

"The fog disappears very quickly. It only exists for an hour or two in the early morning, and it must be in a low-lying area. Did you see that? That fog is not in a low-lying area." Katarina whispered.

And there are traces of that mist. It does not change and squirm like real mist, but is like a solid mass, a mist with substance, and its surface does not change.

If you rush in, you may run into the fog, but it is more likely that you will rush into the fog and be digested by the fog.

Perhaps because of the migration of the ghouls, the weirdness in the dark wilderness has become sparse. Catalina said so, but they saw many weirdnesses. It was just because the flat wilderness made the visual distance very far, so they could detect them before encountering them.

avoid.

Catalina counted the time with the ascending Light Stealer. Its height was already close to the morning sun and it would catch the light at any time.

They were delayed for some time because of the ghouls blocking their way.

When the wooden sign planted on the mound reminded passers-by that there were only thirteen miles away from the town, Catalina took Lu Li and hurried towards the town of Leviathan.

There is a clear difference between the safe zone and the wilderness - although it is also a dark and desolate land, there are no ubiquitous whispers and chilling sense of prying eyes in the safe zone.

At some point, Catalina looked up to the south.

"Hurry up, we're late."

With a whisper, Catalina suddenly started running.

The noise caused by running is tantamount to seeking death in the wilderness, but they are not too far away from the safe zone, and the more dangerous light stealers are approaching - cautious walking cannot allow them to rush into the safe zone before the arrival of eternal night

.

Lu Li, who was wearing a cloak, followed Catalina. He raised his head, his hood slipped off his head, and looked at the southern sky. The faint light spread around the light stealer. It rose high enough, and its skinny shadow claws were slowly moving.

Stretch out.

In a deserted land, a dark wilderness, and outside the safe zone of Leviathan Town, two inconspicuous little figures were running at a high speed.

In front of them, the burning torch originating from the town pointed the way.

Above the sky, the open shadow claws set off their anxiety.

Nightmarishly sharp shadow claws curled up and tore at the sky.

The dimly lit rock wall and ring of magma fire are like a canvas on a drawing board, wrinkled and stacked due to the claws of shadows, leaving behind the exposed canvas only the pure nothingness of darkness.

Catalina's gasps spread across the wilderness. Lu Li's breathing was relatively steady, and he quietly looked at the apocalyptic scene happening in the sky: the entire sky was torn off by the light stealer and fell towards the edge of the world.

Nothingness occupied the sky, and on the earth behind him, a black line was coming towards this side.

The black line spanned several miles every moment, approaching the two running people in an instant——

The safe zone was so close that Catalina could almost see the writing on the wooden border sign.

At the same time, the thick darkness completely enveloped their figures.

Eternal night falls.

Rustling, rustling...

Whispers rang in my ears, and something crawled up my back, pulling on my body, making my body sluggish and my movements slow.

There was a brief silence at the border of the safety zone. Two figures suddenly rushed out of the darkness, and noisy footsteps could be heard.

Catalina took out the fluorite, and the fluorescence, which was dimmer than an oil lamp, barely illuminated her whole body.

The darkness not far away was surging with substance, blocked from the safe zone.

"I almost fell into eternal night..."

Catalina gasped, with the joy of surviving the disaster and a trace of regret.

She originally thought she could go to Ghost Town today and then go to Midnight City through the old sewer.

After calming down her breathing, she and Lu Li walked quickly towards Leviathan Town.

There are flashing fluorescent lights and constant light scattered around the safe area. Those are the people who arrived in the safe area not long ago. These people who returned to the safe area at the last moment risked great dangers, but they were incompatible with Lu Li and the people who returned from Yongye.

Catalina is nothing.

Katarina looked around suspiciously. Lu Li asked what happened. She shook her head and avoided the topic indifferently: "The rules of Leviathan Town are that you are not allowed to drink water."

"Why."

"Who knows. You can drink coffee, soup, tea and even blood, but you can't drink water, so I don't like it here."

As they got closer to the town where the torch was lit, Catalina reminded Lu Li: "Cover your face with your cloak."

Lu Li picked up the hood that had slipped off while observing the light thief and put it on, hiding his face in the shadows.

But after doing everything, he found Catalina staring at him, and suddenly touched the eyeball with the homologous substance inserted into it.

"There's something wrong with you." Lu Li looked at her calmly.

"We fell into eternal night for two or three seconds. Maybe we lost some sanity at that time." Catalina put down her palm awkwardly: "I hope I can recover some."

"How high is your sanity?" Lu Li asked.

"Most of the time it's auditory hallucinations, sometimes it's hallucinations." Catalina said nonchalantly: "I just saw a bunch of tentacles coming out of your cloak, which scared me."

Of course she knows the seriousness of sanity, but there are countless things in the wilderness that are more terrifying and deadly than sanity. Some auditory hallucinations? It's just a small problem before they actually appear.

Before entering Leviathan Town, Catalina unscrewed the water bag and replenished enough water. Lu Li also opened his own water bag and drank some purified water - water that is less polluted than distilled water, and the cost can buy nearly two pounds of small meat.

18 shillings.

Entering Leviathan Town, the difference here is visible to the naked eye compared to Tange Town, which is not much different from the previous town.

This makes people realize one thing more clearly: they live in a strange era where they can die at any time.
