Forty. Cheap

The Mantis Stranger observed the unconscious man. A sharp sickle emerged from the flesh and blood on his back. He reached over his shoulder and cut off a piece of flesh on the man's face.

The man's body was shaking with pain and fear, and he had already woken up.

Just like picking up a vegetable salad, Mantis puts the meat slices into his mouth, chews and swallows silently, and the outline slides into his throat.

"The meat stinks, 20 shillings," it said, his voice emotionless.

"Stinky?"

The waiter was stunned, took out a bottle of salt shaker from his arms, and sprinkled the man's wound with powder that was definitely not grains of salt.

laugh

Ominous gray mist drifted out from the wound of the screaming middle-aged man, and the severe pain and despair spurred him to shed tears.

"We should go."

Catalina said to Lu Li who was looking at the entrance.

Lu Li didn't respond and looked at the waiter spitting in annoyance.

"Damn bastard, he's almost turned into a stranger."

The waiter put away the salt shaker and shook his head at the mantis: "This price is impossible. It will cost me 6 shillings if I come down and go back again, and I have to pay half of the money for selling it to the boss."

"Then 26 shillings," Mantis Stranger said.

"Then I can sell it to others." The guy said tit for tat.

The sharp sickle limbs that were not retracted on the back stretched slightly, and the mantis Yiren gave in a little more: "30 shillings."

"No, he weighs nearly 140 pounds." The guy still refused.

He didn't seem to worry that he would be impaled by the sharp sickle limb that was more than one meter long.

"This is contaminated meat, which is worthless in the old sewers." Mantis Stranger said in a steady and unchanging tone.

"Then I can also sell him to the town to work as a scavenger. They need these dying infected people to clean up."

But Mantis is obviously not easy to coax: "I know the rules on your land, and scavengers do not allow force."

When the lie was exposed, the boy shrugged without much embarrassment: "Okay. Add a little more, 40 shillings. Otherwise, I would rather spend an extra ticket price to take him back instead of selling it to you."

"good."

The deal was about to be concluded when a man wearing a cloak, with black hair and black eyes, who was as mysterious and elegant as an aristocrat walked up to them.

Behind him was the helpless Catalina.

"You...are two guests." The boy quickly remembered who they were.

Lu Li's image was still fresh in his memory, and so was Catalina. After all, she was the one who brought the 40 shillings.

The person being sold as goods also recognized them, but he could only close his eyes tightly and pretend to be unconscious.

"What will you do with him?" Lu Li asked.

"Take them to the slave market and sell them as food if no one buys them before they starve to death." Mantis Yiren replied.

Lu Li frowned and looked at the guy: "Katrina caught him, do we have the right to deal with him?"

"He broke the rules of the tavern, you just caught his guests." How could the waiter allow the shilling he was about to get to escape.

"How much will you get if you sell him?" Lu Li said. "I can buy him."

The man who pretended to be unconscious suddenly opened his eyes.

"5...60 shillings!"

"40 shillings," Mantis Yiren said.

"Of course I have to make more," the guy said nonchalantly. "Otherwise, what's the difference between selling to you and selling to him? Or if I sell to him, you trade with him?"

"If you don't sell it to us, we will tell the boss that you sold it for 60 shillings." Catalina threatened.

Catalina vaguely guessed what Lu Li was going to do and she couldn't stop him. She could only lower the price to prevent Lu Li from spending too much money.

"Damn it, you can't do this!" the man cursed.

"Sold for 100 shillings!"

The eldest sister, who was hanging behind Lu Li like a koala, suddenly showed her head and screamed in agreement.

The guy looked like he'd seen a ghost, and couldn't understand how the ghost's real sister could come here.

"Okay, okay, I can sell it to you, but you are not allowed to interfere in the transaction of the old sewer. If you want me to sell it to you, you have to get the merchant's consent."

Lu Li looked at Mantis Yiren and responded expressionlessly: "If you are willing to trade with me, I will give this deal to you and make friends."

"It agreed, 40 shillings."

Catalina emphasized the price, as if to remind Lu Li not to pay more, or perhaps because she felt sorry for the 40 shillings.

Then she saw Lu Li looking at her.

"Give me money."

Catalina took a half step back: "Why do you want me to give it?"

"You took my money."

"But I only took 20 shillings!" Caterina was still in pain.

Lu Li spent the 230 shillings he got from selling the weird currency and only had 20 shillings left.

"I'll return it to you in Midnight City."

"Five times."

"Can."

Catalina felt better, took out a stack of shillings still warm from her breastplate, counted out 40 shillings and gave them to the waiters.

"Lucky guy, it seems that the noble master wants to save you." The waiter who heard the conversation misunderstood something and said to the man who no longer pretended to be faint. He accepted the 40 shillings and the swill paid by the mantis stranger and returned.

Burrow.

Countless threads gathered from all directions, surrounding the man and lifting him back to the ground.

"dagger."

Lu Li took the dagger handed by Catalina, walked to the man's side and cut the hemp rope.

Catalina watched from behind, thinking that buying a hunter for 40 shillings was not a huge loss.

The wound on his face turned black. The man lowered his head and thanked him for saving his life: "What do you want from me... Sir?"

"What's your name?"

"Frankska, my lord."

Lu Li nodded and turned to Mantis Yiren: "You wanted to make a deal earlier, what kind of deal."

"Any kind of deal is fine."

"Selling tickets back to the surface."

"Um."

"A ticket."

"Admission to Ghost Town Station is 5 shillings."

Lu Li didn't need to say anything, Catalina had already taken out fifteen shillings and handed it to him.

Pusius squatted next to Catalina's legs, raised his head and said, "Our destination is Midnight City Terminal, and we need other tickets there."

Lu Li nodded, but still bought the tickets from Mantis Yiren.

"Are you still planning to come back?" Catalina asked doubtfully.

Lu Li shook his head, paid 5 shillings, and handed the ticket to Frankska: "You can go back."

Frankska stared blankly down at the piece of meat-like ticket.

"You must be crazy!" Katerina shouted.

"Why don't you take him to Midnight City?" Lu Li asked.

"But we bought it for 40 shillings...you just let him go?" Catalina thought Lu Li bought him for other purposes.

"Um."

Frankski said with the same surprise: "My lord, what should I call you?"

"Lu Li."

"Lord Lu Li, do you really want to... let me go?" he asked tentatively.

Lu Li nodded.

Frankska was still in a daze, unable to react to the fact that he was free instead of being sold and eaten as food.

After a while, Frankska came back to her senses and stared at Lu Li deeply, as if she wanted to remember him.

"Thank you for your help..."

With the ticket and confusion, Frankska walked into the cave, was lifted up by the attached silk thread, and rose to the exit.

He kept looking at Lu Li until he was too far away to see.
