Chapter five hundred and six pinch ginseng seeds

Xu Shian drove, taking Xu Chenghou and Xu Haibo, Xu Haitao, Xu Haiyuan and Xu Jinping with him.

Together with Zhao Jianshe and Huang Shengli, they went to the place on the Kaifeng Crossing Road.

The so-called Kaifeng Fork Road is a road that forks eastward halfway from Songjiang River to Quanyang.

This road belongs to the forestry bureau's firewood transportation road, and there will be forks as you go inward.

There are Kaifeng Forest Farm, Xilinhe Nursery, Shuguang Forest Farm, Qianchuan Forest Farm, Shengli Forest Farm, and Dajichang Village under Donggang Town.

The Xu family's ginseng field is just north of the road, which is about ten miles past the fork in the road. It's not too far to go in. This area used to be filled with ditches and ponds.

The year before last, Xu Shiyan bought this piece of ginseng soil. The area is not large, about 3,000 feet.

At first, each family kept fifty feet and sold the rest.

The ginseng land was small, so Xu Shiyan didn't waste any time. Someone just happened to say that he wanted to take care of the ginseng, so he just gave it to them.

Xu Chenghou has been here before. When it snowed before, he went up to work in the mountains.

When we got here, we entered the place by a familiar road and led our children straight to our own ginseng field.

"This way, second brother, you lead Xiaotao, and you two go and pinch the ten or so feet of your family.

Xiaobo and Yuanyuan were in a group, and Pingping and I were together, and we pinched this one.

Let's get to work quickly, this thing will be finished in less than a day."

As soon as he arrived at the Chichuan head of his own ginseng field, Xu Chenghou quickly arranged the work.

"Okay, then just do what dad tells you.

Well, dad, don't be anxious, just do it slowly, Xiao Tao and I will finish pinching the ginseng seeds very quickly, and we'll come over and take over for you."

Xu Shian nodded and gave the old man instructions again.

To pinch ginseng seeds, usually two people work in groups, kneeling on top of the pool, facing each other.

Just reach out and cut off the tender stems underneath the red ginseng fruit, and then put the ginseng fruit into the basket.

Some ginseng grows shorter, so you have to open the ginseng leaves with your hands to prevent them from falling out.

Speaking of which, this job is not too tiring. The main thing is that you have to work under the ginseng shed with your body hunched over, which makes your waist tired.

Children are better off, they are short, small and agile.

At Xu Chenghou's age, it is not easy to do this job again.

That's why Xu Shi'an specifically told his father, because he was afraid that he would be too strong and tired again.

"Okay, let's get to work quickly.

Yuanyuan, Pingping, if your little hands are weak and you can't pinch it, just use scissors.

When you went out in the morning, didn't your grandma specially bring scissors for you two?"

For adults, it is fastest to start pinching directly.

But for children, they are young and have no strength, and their hands are tender. If they pinch it with their hands, even if they can break it, they probably won’t pinch a few flowers before their tired fingers will get a headache.

So when he came out in the morning, Zhou Guilan specially brought scissors to the two children and asked them to use the scissors to cut down.

Just put in the effort, it's better than having a child with sore hands.

"Hey, I got it, grandpa."

The two children agreed with a crisp voice, and then they carried the basket and the scissors, starting from one end of the pool string and kneeling on the pool to work.

Under the ginseng shed, there is a ginseng seedling more than one foot tall. On the main stem of greenish purple, there are five palm-shaped compound leaves, and on the top, there is a bright red ginseng fruit.

The Xu family took care of this stick very carefully. They used base fertilizer when planting ginseng, added bean cake water this spring, and sprayed foliar fertilizer in summer.

So the leaves of this ginseng grow very well, green and black.

The buds of ginseng seeds are also big, almost as big as Xu Jinping’s fist.

The red ginseng fruits are plump, round and shiny, and they look particularly rare.

Xu Haiyuan and Xu Jinping both took scissors and carefully cut out the ginseng fruits one by one and put them in the basket.

When the basket was full, he took it to the pond and poured it into a woven bag.

The pool is so wide that one person cannot reach it all, so two people have to work face to face.

Xu Jinping had short arms and could not reach the middle, so Xu Chenghou stretched out his hand.

The grandfather and grandson worked well together. Although they were not as fast as Xu Shian and the others, they could still carry a basket of ginseng fruits and pour them into a woven bag after a while.

When you are tired, take a rest and then continue working again.

By noon, Xu Chenghou and Xu Jinping had fucked most of the twenty-foot-long string.

The weather was hot, so no one went to see the ginseng house at noon. They just sat on the ground, took out the dry food and water they had brought, and took a bite.

Huang Shuqing, Feng Bin, and Sun Yu also came up the mountain, and they all got together and exchanged meals with each other.

For children like Huang Shuqing who don't like to study, working in the mountains is much more interesting than reading at home.

Xu Shian and his youngest son finished pinching all the ginseng seeds in the morning, and helped Xu Chenghou and others in the afternoon, so the work was finished before three o'clock.

So he drove down the mountain with Ren Ren and ginseng seeds in his car, sent Xu Chenghou, his grandparents, and his three children home, and then drove back to the farm.

Xu Chenghou's grandfather and grandson returned home. It was still early, so they quickly poured the ginseng fruits out of the woven bag and picked the red ginseng fruits one by one from the receptacle.

The red ones fall off easily when touched. Occasionally there are half-green ones, so just pick them off one by one. In fact, most of them are flat ones.

Pick up the small red kidney-shaped fruits one by one. You also need to crush the thin outer peel and wash them with water.

Xu Chenghou led his grandson to put the small fruits into a woven bag, and then asked Xu Haiyuan and others to step on the bag with their shoes.

After stepping on it for a while, you can see some reddish-brown juice flowing out from under the woven bag, which is the juice that flowed out after the fruit pulp was crushed.

It is said that this juice can also be used as medicine, and Sanshenchang is researching ginseng fruit granules.

Of course, ordinary ginseng farmers don't care much about it. They just crush it and let it flow into the ditch like Xu Chenghou.

The children stepped on it for a while, turned over the woven bag, shook it, and continued to step on it.

When there is less and less juice flowing out of it, pour some water into it, tie the bag tightly and step on it for a while, then pour it into a large basin and rinse it with clean water.

Mature good seeds will sink to the bottom of the water, while those floating on the water are flat and most of them will float out.

In this way, after scrubbing and rinsing, the snow-white ginseng seeds are left. Take them out, pour them on a fork that has been covered with gauze, and drain the water.

Ginseng seeds should be dried, but not exposed to the sun.

Therefore, it should be placed in a cool place during the day when the sun is strong, and then taken out in the morning and evening when the sun is not so strong.

If the seeds are not dried in time, the seeds will become powdery.

If it is exposed to the sun, it will be easily roasted and will not germinate, so this thing is particularly delicate.

Dried ginseng seeds, if the ginseng seeds are directly harvested that year, are called water seeds.

Because ginseng seeds have not gone through the dormant period, the germination rate is not high and they are easy to rot.

If kept properly for a year, ginseng seeds will be released next summer, which are called dry seeds.

Dry seeds have a high germination rate and a high seedling retention rate, which are much better than water seeds.

Xu Shiyan had no shortage of ginseng seeds, so he naturally refused to give out water seeds.

Just dry the ginseng seeds and put them away. Wait for the seeds to dry next summer and sow them in autumn.
