74. Ruined Land

Rolle was bumpy in the pickup truck for three and a half days, almost non-stop except for necessary meals and rests along the way. It took a total of nearly a week to finally arrive at a city in the Plenty Valley: Sweet Frost City.

The driver was a local, enthusiastic, talkative, and shrewd. He chatted with Rolle along the way, describing to him the precautions and customs of the Fertile Valley, but he did not say a word, nor did he ask Rolle about his purpose.

The two get along very harmoniously.

Finally, he took Luo Er to the door of a trustworthy hotel, greeted the boss, and it was time to say goodbye.

"Mr. Rohr, if you are still willing to take my car on your return trip, you can ask the owner of this restaurant to contact me."

"Okay, thank you. You are the best tour guide I have ever encountered in this world."

Rohr also said sincerely and shook hands with the other party.

"If you need a new guide, you can also tell your boss and I guarantee that he will introduce you to the most reliable candidate."

The driver said that and sat back in the car.

"Thank you, I will consider it."

After Rohr said that, he waved his hand, and the two of them parted.

The driver should have left directly, but there was a look of hesitation and entanglement on his face. Finally, as if he mustered up the courage, he pressed the horn and stopped Rolle who was about to enter the hotel.

"Mr. Luo Er, I also have a daughter. She just turned 8 years old this year. She is very cute. She lives in Zaza Town, not far from here..."

He hesitated to speak and did not finish what he said, but Rohr had already guessed from his eyes and expression.

He is afraid that conflicts may break out here, affecting himself and his daughter...

This is an emotional communication that only fathers can understand.

Being able to be arranged by Princess Anya's housekeeper to serve as a guide, the driver obviously knew something. He also understood that Luo Er could not be an ordinary villager, but he did not dare to say more.

I'm afraid he had been holding back those words for a long time along the way, right?

It is not easy for every father.

Luo Er sighed in his heart and walked into the hotel.

The boss had already prepared a clean room for him and asked in less standard imperial language:

"Do you need help bringing lunch to your room?"

Rohr was stunned for a moment, and then he realized that the world did not speak only one language. It was just that the driver spoke Imperial Language so well that it gave him this illusion.

"Okay, bring it to me later."

Rolle spoke as slowly as possible to prevent the other party from not understanding, and then asked:

"Are there many people here who speak Imperial? Do I need to hire a translator?"

"Most people in the city understand that if you don't go, there is no need for those rural places."

The boss replied in awkward imperial dialect.

Luo Er nodded and asked about the prices and expenses here.

"5 easts a day, including meals and feed for your donkey."

"For 50 East, you can have the most beautiful girl in the city..."

The boss said while gesturing with his hands, and finally gave him a "knowing" smile.

Rohr felt confident that prices here were cheaper than Yorktown, the most remote place in the Empire. East also had a very hard currency, so there should be no need to worry about insufficient money.

Of course, girls don’t have to...

He then went back to his room and had a lunch similar to that of the Empire. The taste was surprisingly good?

Then, he lay back on the bed, relieving himself from the fatigue of the journey while sorting out in his mind the information provided by the driver along the way and the various situations he saw.

The ruling regime here is called the 'Principality of Maud', which is nominally and legally part of the Holy United Kingdom. However, due to its special location and geopolitical influences, it is not under the care of the United Kingdom, and its citizens are not recognized. It is more like

That kind of useless and useless vassal state.

At the same time, empires, barbarians, foreign races, etc. are all secretly supporting forces and agents here, and the entire Fertile Valley is basically torn into pieces.

This Sweet Frost City is a force supported by the empire, so the imperial language makes sense here.

"Obviously the territory is quite large, the population is not small, the natural resources, hydrology and climate are very good. It should have been a truly fertile land, but it has become this dilapidated state..."

Luo Er sighed again in a low voice.

Coming all the way from the imperial capital, he felt like he had traveled through time and space again, as if he had suddenly gone from a prosperous civilized world to a primitive and backward barbaric land.

He witnessed many scenes where people were living in dire straits. When passing through those villages, there were always some ragged people looking at their pickup trucks with curiosity and fear.

The historical reasons for why this happened can't be explained in a few words, and Luo Er didn't bother to study it. He just came to see his daughter, not to do charity.

After taking a nap, he left the hotel and wanted to go out for a walk. However, before he could take a few steps, he was surrounded by a large group of dirty children. They all stretched out their hands and spoke some local dialects that he did not understand.

Rolle was very resolute and refused to give anything. Then he quickly returned to the hotel and approached the boss, asking him to help find a guide.

After a while, he hired a local young man named Zaza at a "high price" of 2 est per day. He also spoke fluent Imperial language and said he was familiar with most places in the Fertile Valley.

.

However, if you want to leave Sweet Frost City, you have to pay more! Double it!

"You are right not to give things to those children. If you do, you will have to take out everything you have in the end, and you will be remembered by some people with ill intentions."

"Are you really not planning to find a woman? With your generosity, the women here will fall in love with you like crazy!"

"Do you need me to recommend you? There are people from eight to eighty years old..."

Zaza took Luo Er for a stroll on the street while teaching him about the local customs. He was very enthusiastic and obviously very satisfied with this high-paying job.

"No need, I'm more interested in ancient ruins. Where should I go to find out?"

Rohr declined the other party's kindness and asked directly.

But the guide showed a puzzled look on his face and asked:

"Sorry, I didn't quite understand. What did you just say in ancient times?"

His confused look was not a disguise, he really didn't know.

Luo Er was also a little speechless. He knew about the ancient ruins from far away in the empire, but the locals here actually knew nothing about it?

This is a bit troublesome. He seems to have overestimated the flexibility of information in such a backward area...

In a place like this, there isn't even a telegraph, so it's normal for the news to be blocked.

How will I find my daughter now?
