Chapter 18 The Instigator

The noise was so loud that Victor could hear the gunshots outside even while he was in prison.

The two police officers hid in the hall, shooting at the unruly people outside. The windows were broken, and the wooden walls were blasted by bullets. Some townspeople were throwing stones at the police station and smashing the houses with sharp instruments.<

/p>

They were all crazy, collective madness, and the vigilante's curses could clearly be heard in Victor's ears.

Several more gunshots were fired, and two townspeople were killed on the spot by the sheriff who returned fire. However, the remaining people showed no cowardice at all. Their anger extinguished their fear of death, and they were more violent than the fanatic believers who went to death.

It’s unreasonable.

This weird riot lasted for more than ten minutes, until two gunshots were heard from the other side of the road, and agents from the Intelligence Bureau in black suits and red shirts arrived.

Henry and Mark rode two horses and broke into the middle of the town road to help the sheriff fight back against the rioting townspeople.

Two more mobsters were beaten to death, and someone shifted the target of their hatred to the agents of the Inspection Bureau. Two peasant women rushed over carrying shovels and wooden sticks.

But when Henry raised his gun and aimed it at them, suddenly, the riot came to an abrupt end.

All the townspeople who participated in the riot stayed where they were, like puppets that had stopped winding up.

After only two seconds, they looked at each other in confusion, staring blankly at the weapons in their hands, shocked by what they had just done.

Bang!

The sheriff's bullet did not stop and hit an old man's arm. The man was wailing on the ground in pain.

For a moment, the group of townspeople were frightened and screamed. Several people fled in all directions, while the rest squatted on the ground holding their heads in fear.

"Don't shoot! Mr. Sheriff!"

Henry looked at the bewildered and trembling townspeople, suddenly realized something, and quickly asked the sheriff to stop fighting back.

The two of them rode into the crowd on horseback, tied the horses in front of the police station, and then started communicating with the police officer inside.

The little Sheriff Downey was also following them, but his expression was a little depressed.

"Their state is very strange. Perhaps some force amplified their trivial anger." Henry chatted with the two sheriffs. "It may be due to the invisibility technique. Is Mr. Victor imprisoned by you?"
After Henry asked, the two sheriffs looked at the little man Downey, with slight anger in their eyes.

"The two are investigators from the Inspection Bureau, not the Sheriff of Walding. Is there any problem with us detaining the murderer?" The other Sheriff was not very happy.

"Mr. Victor is currently a witness under special protection by our police bureau. The federal government has given us the power to bypass the state police department, so I don't care what he has done. You have to hand him over to us and see the documents signed by the federal government."

?"

Although Henry was young, he was very powerful and steadily suppressed the local sheriff.

The two of them looked at each other, and finally entered the cell helplessly...

……

At the other end of Walding Street, a few houses away from the location where the riot took place at the police station, is the only grocery store in the town.

At this time, the owner of the grocery store carefully climbed out from behind the counter and kept glancing in the direction of the police station.

"Huh... It's too dangerous... Are these guys crazy? How dare they besiege the town's police station... Sir, why didn't you hide just now? What if a bullet comes in?"

The person he spoke to was a middle-aged man wearing a worn-out cowboy hat and a black windbreaker.

The man leaned against the window and calmly watched the entire riot.

He came in half an hour ago and asked his boss to find him some high-quality cigars produced in Demuch State. Then he kept leaning against the window and looking at the location of the police station. Not long after, the riot just happened.

.

"Do you have my goods?"

The man ignored the boss's question and turned to look at him.

"Um...you're out of luck, sir, the latest batch of goods is all sold out."

After receiving the reply, the man opened the door of the grocery store without looking back, walked out, mounted the black horse he tied outside, and quickly left the scene.

When he ran about a kilometer away, the black horse stopped and the man turned back to stare in the direction of Walding Town.

"The people from the Inspection Bureau arrived so quickly... There may be a seer among them, and I can't expose it easily. Next, I can only apologize to Mr. Knower..."

After thinking for a moment, the man quickly flicked the reins, and the black horse galloped out.

……

"I would like to remind you that this riot is probably controlled by invisible magic. You should now investigate the outsiders in the town. There may be seers hiding inside..." Mark said coldly to the two police officers.

.

Henry, on the other hand, has already brought the intact Victor out of the cell.

"I'm not interested in how you were imprisoned, but this riot might be aimed at you..."

Henry warned Victor very directly.

Of course Victor didn't know that this was the gold digger he deceived last night trying to save himself.

"You mean...the murderer who killed my whole family has never let me go? And he also used the townspeople to besiege the police station?"

"It's possible that the other party can't wait until the moment you are hanged..." Henry agreed with Victor's guess, "Or maybe, they don't know that you are about to be hanged."

After Victor got the news, he quickly told Henry and Mark what happened at the male prostitute yesterday.

Henry frowned after hearing this.

"You mean... someone attacked you again yesterday?"

"Yes, and I found clues about Vincent... Vincent knows it! I told you that he is the steward of our family, but everyone in the town thinks that this person does not exist. However, it turns out that he

It does exist, and it must be related to the murder of my whole family by the Conor Gang."

Victor couldn't wait to know the truth of the matter. After all, it was related to the monster in him, which was probably put into his body by the Conor Gang.

"Let's leave here and go back to the inn first... Mark, do you want to cooperate with the sheriff in searching the town?"

Henry asked Mark, but the two sheriffs quickly rejected the cooperation of the Police Bureau and decided to go out and conduct a search of the town on their own.

"Go back to the hotel and change your clothes first! There is still time today to talk about Vincent." Henry said to Victor.

Victor glanced at the two of them and suddenly realized that Father Sang was not here.

"Where's the old priest?"

"He received the commission from the Chief Inspector and now goes to Dandelion..."

Dandelion is the only industrialized city in Missouri. It takes one to two days by horse-drawn carriage to get there.

Henry was talking about receiving a commission, not an order, which shows Father Sang's status in the Inspection Bureau.

The three of them were about to leave the security station. The previously rioting townspeople dispersed, leaving only some people to collect the bodies of a few unlucky people.

There was a quarrel in the police station, and Victor heard that it was Donnie making excuses to his colleagues.

Thanks to Victor who tricked him into finding Henry and the other two, they were able to come over so quickly.

……

Arriving at the hotel, Henry's temporary residence, Victor was arranged in a guest room upstairs.

After surviving a fire and spending a night in jail, his body was covered in dirt and stench. He needed to clean himself up as soon as possible.

There is no bathroom in this house, but there is a bathtub. Victor went downstairs to boil hot water, put it in the bathtub, lay down comfortably in it, raised his head and closed his eyes to enjoy it.

At this time, there was a knock on the door.

"Mr. Victor, there is something we need to talk about. I will spare you two minutes."

Victor recognized it was Henry, so he opened the door wrapped in a bath towel.

"Can you let me wash up first?"

"This is the hotel bill. The price for a day is about 15 French cents. Bath water costs 2 French cents. You have to pay for it yourself. You know, the salary of our ordinary investigators is not high..."

"..."

Victor looked at Henry speechlessly, and finally... bang! He closed the door with a cold face, without even taking the bill.

"Damn, when I inherit the family's money, I will buy this shabby hotel!"

After seeing Henry hand him the bill, the image of his black suit and red shirt suddenly plummeted in Victor's heart.

Lying back in the bathtub, Victor had some messy thoughts in his mind, and he always felt that something was wrong with Henry.

Is it what he said? Or is it his attitude?

No...no, it's his uniform.

Victor thought about it carefully... Suddenly he remembered the last night when he was shot, and when the door was kicked open, the flash of red flashed in his eyes.

Leather gloves, a round hat with a red ribbon, and a blood-red undershirt...

Wait!
