Chapter 38: Under the Stone Bridge

The situation is indeed getting more and more complicated. Victor only found clues about Joseph Bode in the inner data room at first.

In order to synthesize the second secret of dream sex, he went to the circus performance site and found Joseph's nephew Rufu. After being ordered to be expelled by the other party, Victor found out by chance that Joseph had done something for the Dallians before his death.

Have a divination.

There was nothing in Joseph's tomb, which proved that there was something fishy about his death. The Dallians were the last people who came to him for divination. They must know what happened in that incident.

Unfortunately, Dalyan's wife died almost exactly the same time as Joseph, and the other's child mysteriously disappeared four years ago. This is another unsolved case.

Victor felt that he had been involved in a mess of events, which made his mind so muddy that he couldn't figure it out.

Following the location mentioned by Darien, he hired a carriage to take him quickly to the logging camp on the outskirts of the city.

The water of the canal flows under the green grass slope, the flat stone bridge collapses on it, the road extends outside the city, and the lumberyard is right in front.

Victor let the carriage wait for him under the kerosene lamp on the roadside. He stepped on the sandy road and stood on the lawn blowing the cold wind.

The air in the outskirts of the city is indeed good, and there is still some golden afterglow on the horizon, making the water plants growing along the canal look like harvested wheat stalks.

"I'm really crazy..."

Victor shook his head. He breathed the fresh air and laughed at himself in his heart.

A child who disappeared at least four years ago is now here to investigate. What the hell can be found?

He looked at the mountain forest deep in the road, and could see large logging marks there, and cylindrical timber stacked on the roadside. This should be where Dalian went to buy high-quality timber.

"The child probably didn't go missing near the logging camp. There are many workers there, so the chance of getting lost is low."

Victor doesn’t know what the situation was like when the child was lost. Did Mr. and Mrs. Darien fulfill their duty as parents?

The man was so lost that he didn't want to say anything to Victor. It was really annoying and he could only try to analyze it himself.

"You can enter the city not far after crossing the bridge. If the child is watched over at all times, the child will not be lost. Accidents are only likely to occur on the road from the lumberyard to the stone bridge."

Victor was pacing on the grass by the roadside. He raised his hand and tried to tell fortunes.

When it comes to finding something, the accuracy of the divination operator is still very high, but the premise is that Victor knows what he is looking for.

At least four years have passed. He is looking for the missing child. Can he find it?

"It's difficult to accomplish anything if you linger around. It's unclear when you seek advice..."

After receiving a disappointing prediction, Victor's face sank.

"Is it still too much?"

He put down his hand and looked at the slowly flowing Grand Canal.

"If you stay around and the soldier has not returned, he belongs to water and is Xuanwu. If you plan anything, it will be at the second, eighth, or tenth. You will see the lost property in the south."

Xuanwu belongs to water.

Victor frowned, walked to the edge of the revetment, and continued to analyze the hexagrams.

In the beginning, Victor's analysis of the fortune teller's hexagrams was always at a very superficial level.

Da'an, Liulian, Kongwang, Xiaoji, Chikou, Suxi...these six hexagrams are calculated to be good or bad, and Victor has no deeper analytical meaning.

But as he became more proficient in using it, his thinking became more divergent. He no longer stuck to the apparent badness of these six hexagrams, but hoped to find the good side from the bad things and be vigilant from the good hexagrams.

A bad turn.

Not only that, he could feel that as he used invisible techniques more and more, his progress in studying secret transmissions was slowly accelerating.

What Father Sang said about the study process can already be sensed by him.

Victor believes that in less than two years, even if he does not deliberately use the imitation method, he will fall into the threshold stage of the parabola and have to face the threat of death.

"If I obtain the second secret of the butterfly phase, I will have to hurry up and study how to overcome the lethality of the threshold."

He made a silent plan in his mind, and after walking about ten meters along the canal, he suddenly looked up.

"See you in the south for lost items... This lost item is not my lost item. I shouldn't speculate based on my own thoughts..."

"The water sign should refer to this canal. The date of the plan is not yet clear. All matters are postponed. It is not a complete disaster to linger, but the time is not ripe..."

"The planners are two, eight, and ten... If interpreted according to the directions, they should be northeast, southwest, and west. This is contrary to the hexagram's "lost things are seen in the south", so it cannot be simply understood according to the directions."

"If it's not the direction, would it be the time? Or some special number?"

Victor just kept standing on the edge of the canal, staring at the vehicles and pedestrians passing by on the stone bridge.

It was getting late at night, but he still had no intention of leaving. The coachman's stomach growled with hunger, but since the guest had paid for the return trip, he could only take out half a piece of rye bread from the trunk to satisfy his hunger.
There are two arches under the stone bridge. Only the left one is opened during the day, and both are raised at night to facilitate nighttime river transportation.

Victor stood on the bank like a stone statue, staring motionlessly at the boat passing through the arch.

One ship, two ships, three ships...

Time passed slowly, and when Victor saw the tenth ship passing through the arch on the left, a dull bell sounded from the church on the other side in the distance.

Eight o'clock in the evening!

The lattice hanging door of the second arch slowly stretched up as the people on the bridge operated.

Victor stared hard at the thick grid wood. He seemed to see something at the sharp bottom of the hanging door!

It was so dark at night that the second door would only be raised at night. After four years, no one discovered that there was a rope underneath the hanging door!

And the rope was tightly binding something to the hanging door. Compared with the entire stone bridge, that thing was so small that no one could notice it at night.

If Victor hadn't been paying attention to the bottom of the hanging door, he wouldn't have discovered it.

Even so, he couldn't see clearly what that thing was.

"Two, eight, ten, the second hanging door, at eight o'clock in the evening, the moment the tenth ship passed by, it turned out to be like this!"

Victor used his fist and immediately ran to the top of the stone bridge, asking the manager to quickly help take down the thing.

……

By the time Dallion saw the remains of his child, it was already early the next morning.

He was notified that he had arrived at the stone bridge on the outskirts of the city, and the police station had intervened to control the place.

Victor's ears were filled with the discussions of bystanders, but more importantly, the father's uncontrollable cries.

Until he got the child up from under the hanging door, Victor didn't expect that Dallion's child was so small.

That shapeless body was exactly that of a newborn baby.

This is very strange. How careless did the couple have to be to let their child be stolen and killed?

Moreover, the other party's methods were quite cruel. They tied the child to the bottom of the hanging door, sunk him in the water, and drowned him alive.

Because the bottom of the door has always been under the water during the day, no one can see it. When it is raised at night, the light is too dark. The child looks too small compared to the hanging door. The child is wrapped in a cloth and is a black unknown object. People passing by

People don't deliberately observe it, so it was hidden for four years.

The police soon began to investigate the surrounding residents. After asking Dalyan about his story, they immediately called all the workers at the lumberyard for questioning.

Victor was not harassed by the police because he showed the badge of the Inspection Bureau. He walked up to Dalian and patted the man on the shoulder.

"Is it time to say what you promised me yesterday afternoon?"
