Chapter 235 The Secret of Battleship Island

Victor didn't know the current situation on Battleship Island, but there was indeed a prison there, located not far from Renekton, only a few nautical miles away.

To find out what happened back then, you have to go to the island and check it out for yourself.

Victor originally planned to go by himself, but who would have thought that de Gaulle also used some means to obtain clues about Warship Island and the soldiers who were reported from the fortress.

The two of them met by chance on the street near the port.

Fortunately, Victor did some fortune-telling for himself before going out and made a disguise in advance, just to avoid running into him.

"Oh! This is God's will, Vladimir, don't tell me that you are going to travel by boat soon." De Gaulle looked at Victor as if he was seeing a treasure.

Victor smiled awkwardly and objected: "Traveling by boat? No, I was just passing by..."

"This is fate, Watson. I am going to Battleship Island right now. You should come with me. This is related to our case..."

Immediately afterwards, he told Victor the information he had obtained.

It turned out that he didn't get many clues, not as detailed as Victor. He only knew where the soldiers reported by Bilbo were sent, and he didn't even know their names.

Since they all met, Victor followed the trend and went to the passenger ferry port together, buying the same ticket as him.

Of course, Victor, who was just passing by on the surface, did not tell de Gaulle what he knew.

They were on a small passenger ship bound for the southern port of Saigon. The first stop was at the port of Battleship Island.

De Gaulle was on the deck on the side of the ship while blowing the wind while introducing the situation of the island to Victor.

"A prison was built on the island in the past, but it is now abandoned, leaving only the ruins of dilapidated buildings."

"Abandoned?" Victor was slightly surprised, but he didn't know the matter clearly.

De Gaulle continued: "Mr. Di Leo's brother reported several soldiers before he was discharged, sent them to this prison, and then quickly discharged from the army. That's all I know."

"If those soldiers have been released, maybe they will take revenge on Bilbo?" Victor added.

De Gaulle nodded and agreed with Victor's inference.

Because it was very close to Renekton, the ship docked at the port of Battleship Island in less than half a day.

This is a small island, so named because it looks like a warship.

The pier is very simple and can only accommodate medium-sized ships, so luxury cruise ships are definitely out of the question.

There are quite a lot of flights, and all small and medium-sized passenger ships traveling between the south and Renekton will dock at Battleship Island, so they don't have to worry about not being able to get home for a long time.

The reason why there are so many passenger ships is because the prison on the island was scrapped. Now there are some fishermen and small villages living on it, with a population of about a few thousand people.

Speaking of why the prison was abandoned, Victor didn't find any information from the archives of the Inspection Bureau, and he hadn't had time to go to the Department of Defense and Suppression to check, so he didn't know if there was any information there.

De Gaulle didn't know this either, and this was what he wanted to investigate.

The old prison site is in the northeast of the island, separated from the residential areas near the pier by the tall hills in the center.

After they got off the boat, they found a fisherman and borrowed his horse-drawn cart to go to the old site.

From a distance, Victor could see the building in the distance that was surrounded by a solid stone wall.

It falls on a cliff hundreds of meters above the coastline. The road that originally led there was overgrown with weeds because no one had stepped on it for a long time.

The rubble left by the landslide on the side, as well as the road that was soaked and cracked by rain, made the nearly one kilometer road behind it full of potholes and impossible to move forward.

The fisherman was afraid that his car would not be able to drive through and would fall apart, so he urged the two of them to get out of the car.

"Two gentlemen, I will wait here! Please come back quickly."

The fisherman got out of the car, rolled himself a cigarette, and refused to go any further.

Victor knew that the other party cared about his carriage and did not force him, but de Gaulle did not miss the opportunity to get clues.

"Do you know anything about this prison?"

"I'm not sure, but I heard from people in the village that there are ghosts wandering around inside. It's very scary..." The cigarette in the fisherman's mouth fell apart as soon as he lit it because he couldn't hold it firmly, and the tobacco fell to the floor. He said it halfway.

He yelled.

Victor took out his cigarette and handed one to the other party.

These are high-quality cigarettes produced in the Demuch region. Not only the rich, but at least the middle class can afford to smoke such cigarettes.

The fisherman had never seen such a "high-end product" before, and he couldn't put it down immediately after holding it in his hand. He even didn't want to light it on fire.

De Gaulle glanced at Victor, seemingly suspicious, but did not express his thoughts on the spot, but continued to ask the fisherman: "How was it abandoned?"

The fisherman held the cigarette in his mouth and took out a match: "I don't know, but when I was a child, there were many criminals imprisoned here. There were very few people living on the island at that time, and no one dared to go near it."

After lighting the cigarette, the fisherman frowned and suddenly said: "But I heard that the prison was attacked once, maybe that was the reason."

Victor stretched out his hand to block the sun in the sky and looked at the prison wall in the distance.

He saw many signs of damage on the wall close to the cliff, and several large irregular holes appeared, which should have been blasted by cannonballs.

"Let's go take a look first, hoping to get back before the sun goes down. I don't know if there is a hotel here."

"There is an old hotel with simple facilities. After all, not many people living in Renekton are willing to go to Warship Island for vacation." The fisherman shrugged.

After inquiring, Victor and de Gaulle walked to the prison.

I originally thought that it would take a lot of trouble to get in, but luckily, the prison door was completely broken and half of it was broken down, so anyone who wanted to can get in.

The atrium is overgrown with weeds, and the corners of the dark stone walls are covered with moss. The main building has three floors. Judging from the broken windows outside, there should be hundreds of rooms for prisoners. Just look at it and you can't find any at all.

clue.

So they entered the house by kicking open the rusty iron door, carefully stepped up the stairs, and searched for the problem in suspicious places.

De Gaulle's eyes kept lingering on some places that Victor had not noticed, and Victor wanted to go to the manager's house to see if he could find the paper records left behind.

There is really no one here, and it is impossible that there will be anyone. De Gaulle checked the bullets in his pistol and wanted to see more where the prisoners lived, so he suggested moving separately.

Victor was not afraid of anything. He left the detention area and went to find the place where the prison guards worked and lived.

The prison is actually not big. In addition to this building, there are two bungalows. In one of the buildings, Victor found a yellowed record that had not yet rotted.

It contains the names and information of all prisoners, as well as the cell numbers where they are held.

Taking advantage of de Gaulle's absence, Victor took out the notes he had made, compared the names and years, and spent a lot of time to find the location of the soldiers reported by Bilbo.

So he took the record and returned to the previous building to confirm the house numbers of all the cells one by one.

At this moment, gunfire suddenly came from upstairs.
