The emperor guards the gate of the country, and the king dies in the country.
When future generations talk about the Ming Dynasty's move to the capital, most of them will think of this magnificent statement.
The full version is: If you don't claim vassal status, don't pay tribute, don't make peace with each other, don't cede territory, the emperor will guard the country, and the king will die in the country.
Many later generations thought this was what Zhu Laosi said, but in fact this sentence did not come from the mouth of Emperor Yongle, but was just a tribute to the integrity of the Ming Dynasty by later generations.
But to put things into perspective, after Zhu Di ascended the throne, he wanted to move the capital to Peking. The reason was by no means a dispute of integrity, but for the following reasons.
First, although Jingnan has been successful, these old Jianwen ministers in Yingtian Mansion are not of the same mind as Zhu Laosi, and the aristocratic families in the southern provinces are even more intertwined. To these noble families, Zhu Di is like a foreigner, and Peking is run by Zhu Di.
Moving the capital to Peking, his hometown for twenty years, can stabilize his unfair imperial power;
Second, it is convenient to fight the Mongols. After all, Jing Nan can no longer be vindicated and can only rely on meritorious service;
Third, as the emperor of the Ming Dynasty, he built a defense line against the northern Mongols. The original main force of the northern defense line was built by the nine great fortress kings such as Yan Wang Zhu Di and Ning Wang Zhu Quan. However, after a calamity, Zhu Di almost took over the northern border.
All military strength, including the three guards of Duoyan, had been exhausted, and Zhu Di was worried about sending other generals or vassal kings to guard the northern border. After all, who can say for sure whether there will be another disaster;
Fourth, it is purely a personal preference. Zhu Di is used to living in the north.
After the capital was moved, we looked at the entire Ming Dynasty in 276.
1. It wastes people and hurts money. According to historical records, it took nineteen years for Yongle to move the capital. Tens of thousands of wealthy households from the south were forcibly moved to Peking, where they built the capital, dug canals, built palaces, requisitioned millions of civilians, and consumed countless money;
Second, it was a huge waste of finance. Peiping’s hematopoietic capacity was naturally insufficient. In order to maintain the imperial capital, it was necessary to transport taxed grain from the south of the Yangtze River. Most of it had to go through canals, which in vain raised the food and clothing of millions of water workers. In the late Ming Dynasty, water transportation
It has become a worm-like existence in the empire;
Third, the capital is too close to the border. Once the Great Wall defense line is breached, the enemy can directly attack the heart of the Ming Dynasty. During Zhu Di's period, with its strong military strength, it could attack instead of defend. However, once the military strength declines and the offense and defense change positions, the capital will always be under threat. Moreover, during the Zhu Di period, the Ming Dynasty had three defense posts north of the Great Wall. The farthest Kaiping Guard was more than 400 miles deep. From this perspective, Peiping can also be called the hinterland, and its safety is guaranteed to a certain extent.
However, after Xuanzong of the Ming Dynasty abandoned the three guards of Kaiping and Pingping, the Ming army no longer had a stronghold outside the Great Wall, which exposed its two wings and lost its strategic depth. The imperial capital was under direct threat from foreign enemies for a long time.
An important reason why the Jurchens became powerful in Liaodong.
After Xuanzong, the Ming Dynasty's northern defense line shrank again and again. During the Jiajing period, Beiping completely became a border town, and the Mongolian pastures were opened to the current Fangshan and Miyun;
Fourth, after the capital was moved, the emperor's error tolerance rate in military operations was reduced, and it was impossible for every generation of Zhu family emperors to be Zhu Laosi and other famous generals with their own buffs.
All the elites in the camp were elite. If Yu Qian had not been born out of nowhere, the Ming Dynasty would have perished in less than a hundred years;
Fifth, the shift in the focus of the army led to the backwardness of the military establishment in the southern coastal areas, so that in the late Ming Dynasty, Japanese pirates were roaming freely and could not be eradicated.
In short: although there were short-term benefits in moving the capital to Peking, which enhanced the prestige of the Ming Dynasty, they were not as good as the long-term disadvantages.
Originally, after Yongle, Hongxi Emperor Zhu Gaochi issued an imperial edict to return Yingtian four months after he came to the throne. All preparations were made, but it was a pity that Big Fatty died too quickly and did not have time to move the capital back, so he went alone
The sky is looking for Zhu Laosi to report.
"Fourth, do you want to move the capital?"
Lao Zhu frowned. He actually also had the idea of moving the capital, but Lao Zhu's intention of moving the capital was different from Zhu Laosi. When Lao Zhu first ascended the throne and founded the country, he wanted to move the imperial capital to his hometown of Fengyang.
As the saying goes, "Wealth does not return to its hometown, just like walking at night in brocade clothes." He, Lao Zhu, also wanted to experience it.
In the second year of Hongwu, Lao Zhu decreed that Fengyang would be the central capital, and Li Shanchang was responsible for supervising the construction of Fengyang Palace. No matter how much Liu Bowen and other admonishers tried to persuade him, it was in vain. However, in the eighth year of Hongwu, Lao Zhu stopped the matter.
I don’t know which part of Lao Zhu’s mind is enlightened.
Later, Lao Zhu also had the idea of moving the capital to Xi'an, and specially asked his good boy A Biao to inspect Xi'an. It was after this inspection that Zhu Biao suddenly died suddenly, and the matter of moving the capital to Xi'an was shelved.
.
After that, Lao Zhu was dying and had no time to think about moving the capital.
But one thing is certain, Lao Zhu never considered moving the capital to Peking, which shows that at least from Lao Zhu's perspective, Peking is not suitable to become the imperial capital.
"Returning to my father's emperor, I really want to move the capital."
Zhu Di knew in his heart that it was best to tell the truth in front of his father, as being careless would only be counterproductive.
"Stop your thoughts and follow the immortal master's words. If you dare to think of moving the capital again in the future, we will destroy you."
Zhu Laosi's heart skipped a beat when he heard this, and he quickly looked at Ji Boying.
"I will follow the teachings of the immortal master."
Lao Zhu finally glanced at Zhu Di and Zhu Yunwen, who was lost in thought, and waved his hand, signaling for them to get out.
Zhu Di kowtowed respectfully, then stood up, took Zhu Gaoxu and Zhu Neng, and left the Xiangdian. As for Zhu Yunwen, with the support of Fang Xiaoru, he also walked out of the Xiangdian. This kid looked a little crazy.<

"Sir, is it almost time?"
Lao Zhu looked at everything around him with emotion.
In his time and space, the construction of Xiaoling Mausoleum had not yet begun.
"Well, we're almost there."
Ji Boying himself can freely travel through sixteen time and space, but the people he brings can only stay in other time and space for one hour. Ji Boying does not know whether this system setting will change in the future.
"It's really magical."
Lao Zhu sighed, feeling a resistance around his body, as if trying to push him away.
"Mr. Ji, we have a suggestion. Since you and I are so in love, why not become sworn brothers of the opposite sex."
Hit it off?
Ji Boying held a cigarette in his mouth and looked at Lao Zhu.
I'm thinking about your uncle. An hour ago, you wanted to kill me, but now you're in love?
"Okay."
For Ji Boying, it is a good thing to become a sworn sworn brother to Lao Zhu. With this status, he can more conveniently influence the promulgation of policies in Hongwu time and space, so as to achieve the goal of prolonging the country.
"We are fifty-two this year, sir?"
When Lao Zhu looked at Ji Boying's appearance, he looked like a young man in his twenties or thirties.
Ji Boying stood up and took two steps forward slowly. He looked at the white clouds floating across the sky outside Xiangdian. He took a deep breath from the cigarette in his mouth. White mist came out of his nose and curled up.
"The world is long, the years are countless, I can't remember them."
"I just remember that the day when that boy Ying Zheng ascended the throne as King of Qin was my ninth thousand year birthday."
Ying Zheng?!
Although Lao Zhu did not read books when he was a child, he has been reading books ever since he led the army. He naturally knows what Yingzheng is!
He was 9,000 years old during the time of the First Emperor, so wouldn’t he be over 10,000 years old now?
This is the serious Long Live Lord!
"Zhu Yuanzhang has met his brother!"
Lao Zhu, who was lame after being deceived, quickly stood up and saluted Ji Boying.
