381 Dividing the spoils

Crown Prince Wilhelm, the most powerful person in Germany today, is responsible for the current reforms of the German government. He wants to transform Germany into a democratic country in order to qualify for peace talks with the Allied Powers.

At least, it should be a democratic country recognized by the Allies.

In September, Prince Marx, who succeeded Hotlin as German Prime Minister, sent a diplomatic note to U.S. President Wilson, accepting the peace treaty proposed by Wilson at the beginning of the year.

Wilson immediately responded, urging Germany to earnestly accept the Fourteen Points in an almost friendly manner.

This was the first time that Wilson's Fourteen Points were recognized by world powers, and Wilson had reason to be friendly to Germany, even if the two sides were at war.

In fact, everyone understands that peaceful coexistence between countries is the norm, and the state of war cannot last forever. Maybe the war will end tomorrow, and trade between Germany and the United States will resume the day after tomorrow.

When the news that the Germans agreed to Fourteen Points reached the Elysee Palace and Buckingham Palace, it immediately aroused strong dissatisfaction in Britain and France.

The focus of the conflict is still on the self-determination of private capital.

Germany had lost all its overseas colonies during the war. Of course Germany agreed to the Fourteen Points, but this was simply deliberately disgusting to Britain and France, who were about to win a complete victory.

But peace is everyone's consensus, and Britain and France cannot insist on going their own way. So Britain and France refused to negotiate with the German government on the pretext that Germany was still in trouble.

While rejecting the German government's peace proposal, Britain and France launched another large-scale attack on the front line, trying to break through the Hindenburg Line, push the front to German territory, and force Germany to surrender unconditionally.

It was already October, and the Americans finally drove the Germans out of the Argonne Forest, but the Americans paid the price of 26,000 killed and 95,000 injured. Haig's offensive still made no progress.

The number of casualties within a month was as high as 180,000.

Perhaps knowing that they were forced to the edge of the cliff, the Germans showed their tenacious will to fight. Their casualties were less than those of the Allies, but at the same time, their total military strength lagged far behind those of the Allies.

At this time, the Entente may be more appropriately called the Allies after the Americans join.

At this time, the Allies had nearly 6 million troops, and the advantages of aircraft, tanks, and artillery were becoming more and more obvious. The new generation of Allied generals, represented by Qin Zhiyuan, Monash Patton, no longer used human sea tactics, but used steel to consume the Germans.

life.

In early October, the Canadians finally broke through the Hindenburg Line. They used a total of 940,000 artillery shells, but there were only 100,000 German defenders opposite them.

In the ensuing battle, the Allied forces fired 12,000 tons of artillery shells every day, including 280,000 rounds of Miss 75 shells.

The German artillery was unable to fight back at this time. They could only defend passively, living in fear every day in the shadow of the barrage created by Bruchmuller.

In mid-October, more and more breakthrough areas were achieved. Although the German army suffered heavy casualties, if the Allies committed ground combat troops, the German army's counterattack would still be fierce.

The Marines were resisting, the Bavarian troops were resisting, even the incomplete infantry divisions that had been beaten were resisting.

In some positions, the German army fought until only officers and machine guns were left, but the officers would turn themselves into machine gunners and resolutely resist the Allied attack as long as they could still move.

In mid-October, the rainy season finally arrived, and the roads became muddy, making transportation extremely difficult. The Allied forces still had a lot of artillery, and shells piled up in the ports, but they could not be transported to the front line.

I thought that due to the continuous rain, fighter planes were unable to take off, and tanks were stuck in mud pits. However, the German machine guns in the distance were still rattling intermittently, and it sounded like they would stop at any time, but they never stopped.

The Allies finally realized that the trapped Germany still had the ability to resist, and they were not the Austro-Hungarian Empire at the mercy of others.

At the end of October, a report was submitted to Raymond Pengale's office. The war committee assessed the military potential of the German army. It was estimated that if the war was brought to the German mainland and the Germans were completely conquered by force, the war would continue until the next year.

France would suffer an additional 500,000 casualties.

After Raymond Penggarai read the report, he gave instructions above to stop it, and then sent someone to forward the report to Clemenceau.

Raymond Pengale understood that stopping the war now would lay hidden dangers for the future, because the fact that the war did not reach the German mainland would make the Germans think that they were not truly defeated, but that they were defeated because of the lack of allies.

Then in the future, war may break out again.

But Raymond Poingarai had no way to continue the war. The French government's finances had dried up, and even the Americans were unwilling to lend money to the French government.

Americans want to be the savior and single-handedly save Europe from disaster.

In September, Poengale tentatively proposed to Wilson that he would not repay the loan, but the United States refused.

Then this money can only be transferred to the Germans, and if Germany is to retain its ability to repay, then Germany cannot be reduced to ruins.

Lloyd George apparently thought so, because just after the papal envoy arrived in London, Lloyd George also agreed to an armistice.

On November 8, a negotiating team led by Matthias Sulzberger of the Catholic Central Committee arrived in Compiègne, met with Allied Commander-in-Chief Foch, and requested that armistice negotiations begin.

Foch made it clear that there was no possibility of negotiation and the German army must surrender unconditionally.

Foch also pointed out that the Allies agreed to a one-month armistice on the premise that the German troops would withdraw from the east bank of the Rhine within 14 days, abrogate the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, withdraw to the eastern border on August 1, 1914, and hand over 5,000

3,000 cannons, 3,000 mortars, 30,000 machine guns, and 2,000 aircraft, and at the same time gave up German territories in East Africa.

Ulzberg did not immediately agree to these conditions. After three days of negotiations, Ulzberg finally agreed.

So the armistice agreement officially came into effect at 11 o'clock on the morning of November 11th.

The one-month truce was not to avoid the rainy season, but to discuss negotiation terms.

In other words, although the peace agreement has not yet been signed, the world war is over.

After the news spread, some were ecstatic, some were sad, some cried bitterly, and some accepted it calmly. No matter what, on November 11, 1918, the world war ended.

Not everyone was happy. When the armistice agreement was signed, Mangin was extremely dissatisfied. He exclaimed: No, no, no, we must break into the heart of Germany. The armistice agreement must be signed in the heart of Germany. Now this

Agreement, are the Germans admitting defeat? The war cannot be ended like this. This is a fatal mistake, and France will pay the price for it.

From Qin Zhiyuan's point of view, Man Jing made a point.

But at the same time, because these words were spoken by Manjing, they have no weight.

After the armistice agreement was signed, peace negotiations followed, which was a feast. Qin Zhiyuan did not want the Republic of China to be absent, so Qin Zhiyuan sent someone to invite Lu Zhengxiang.

In the Black Swan Castle in Paris, Lu Zhengxiang looked bitter: I know that the peace agreement has been signed, and I also know that the world war is over. The country should indeed send a delegation, but who can send who can represent our Republic of China?

Lu Zhengxiang's voice had a strong nasal sound, and his eyes were red, as if he might break down and cry at any moment.

Just three months ago, the domestic Anfu faction won the general election, the new Congress was established in the House of Representatives, and the Prime Minister and President of the Republic of China announced their resignations on the same day.

Subsequently, the Anfu Congress began to argue over the presidential candidate. The support ratings of the former prime minister and the former president were evenly matched. This dispute lasted for three months.

In other words, in the current Republic of China, there is no prime minister or president, only an Anfu Congress that quarrels all day long during meetings.

Sending a delegation is definitely not on the agenda of the Anfu Congress. For them, electing a president who can represent their own interests is an urgent matter. As for the upcoming peace talks in Europe, Ai Whoever goes, goes.

Lu Zhengxiang has called the country several times to ask the country to pay attention to this matter, but it has not attracted any attention because no one has the authority to make a decision.

Lu Zhengxiang had no choice but to send a telegram, because even the current operating funds of the embassy were sponsored by Qin Zhiyuan.

What should we do? Qin Zhiyuan is dissatisfied as we just watch others get a lot of money while we get nothing.

To be honest, if it weren't for the fact that he was in the critical stage of dividing the spoils, Qin Zhiyuan would have wanted to return to China right now.

Qin Zhiyuan really wanted to ask those MPs from the Anfu Society face to face: Do you want to be this MP?

If you don't want to do it, leave quickly. If you want to do it, wait in line.

There is no peace in the country, and there is no leader among the dragons. However, Lu Zhengxiang is full of sorrow and anger.

During World War I, the Western powers had no time to look eastward. This was originally a good opportunity for the Republic of China to seize the opportunity to strengthen its own development strength. But unexpectedly, the country began to fall into war after the Hongxian Dynasty. This war lasted four years and the world war was over. The country still refuses to stop.

By the way, how belligerent should you be?

Why did the warlike people in Europe initially propose sending troops but no one in Europe was willing to come?

But this is the national situation

How about we form a group first to try to find another way for Qin Zhiyuan.

Lu Zhengxiang is a literati, and literati like to do things according to the rules because they are afraid of breaking the rules, which will make them lose their living space.

Qin Zhiyuan is different. Qin Zhiyuan is a warrior, and what a warrior is best at is of course force. Any strategy is futile in the face of absolute strength.

How we organize Lu Zhengxiang is not a trick. As long as there are people to support him, Lu Zhengxiang is not unable to do anything.

You need to find a few people first, and let's form a delegation. Let's get the status first. If there's any good thing, you have to join in and don't fall behind others. Qin Zhiyuan never wants to suffer when he can take advantage.

Lu Zhengxiang was hesitant about what to do when the country sent people over, but his hopeful eyes revealed Lu Zhengxiang's true thoughts deep in his heart.

When the time comes, let them come if they are suitable. If they are not suitable, they can stay where they are. Qin Zhiyuan cuts through the mess quickly.

Okay, let’s take Governor Qin’s idea. Lu Zhengxiang smiled with wrinkles all over his face, and his ability to change faces was also profound.

To be continued.
