Chapter 3 Arriving at the Destination

Hutao was awakened by the shaking,

When Hu Tao woke up, Ling Yechen was driving seriously. She was being thrown around. If it hadn't been for the seat belt, she believed she would have been thrown away.

As soon as the car passed by, the dust rolled up, leaving behind a gray scene.

"Is it about to arrive?" Hutao asked, rubbing his eyes.

Ling Yechen might have been too bored all the way here, so he replied: "It should be soon."

Then he complained: "Why is this road so difficult?"

Hutao looked at the road, and there was nothing strange about it. She had seen too many roads like this.

"It's a bit difficult to walk, but many rural roads are like this."

Later, both of them were silent until they climbed over a mountain and saw a village in front of them. Hutao said excitedly: "Look, we should have arrived."

Ling Yeshen didn't say anything and drove directly into the village.

Smoke is rising from every household, and when you pass by someone’s door, you can see their dog running out and barking at their car.

Occasionally, I saw a few children playing on the roadside. It must be because they were playing in the mud. They were covered in mud.

To be honest, Hu Tao was still shocked by the sight in front of her.

Although she comes from a rural area, at least her family lives in a two-story building.

And here are all wooden houses built with tree stumps.

The whole village gave her a feeling of primitive society.

Soon, the car arrived at the village committee. Here is the most beautiful house in the village, with the school behind it. There is a large playground outside the school. The playground is full of grass. You can see that the grass is taken care of by someone.

Passed.

The person who received them was the village chief, named Sha Mazilong.

He is of medium height, has nice skin, and speaks Mandarin that is not very standard.

After a while of greetings, he took the two of them to his home.

Ling Yechen has never spoken since he entered this village. He is unable to adapt to everything around him, including what the village chief just said, he only understood half of it.

Walnut seems to have no communication difficulties, so

The rest of the communication will be based on walnuts.

And he just followed her silently.

During Hutao's communication with the village chief, she roughly understood the basic situation here.

This village belongs to the alpine mountainous area, and the entire village is composed of Yi people.

The climate here is high and cold, and the main occupation is grazing, because the climate is too cold to be suitable for farming.

I usually plant some highland barley, tartary buckwheat and potatoes.

After walking for almost five minutes, it was already getting dark.

Hu Tao and Ling Yeshen were taken to the village chief's house.

As soon as they entered the door, they were stunned.

Six children, big and small, stood in a row at the door watching them come in.

Hu Tao asked uncertainly: "Who is the village chief?"

The village chief laughed, revealing a row of yellowed teeth, and said sheepishly: "These are my children, four boys and two girls, the oldest is fourteen years old, and the youngest is only five years old."

Hutao nodded, and then said hello to several children: "Hello."

Several children smiled at her with red faces, and then ran away again.

It seems that these children don't meet strangers often and seem to be very shy.

Then, Hu Tao noticed his house.

There are several wooden houses, but there are no walls or concrete floors. The ground is covered with grass. Because people often trample on it, there are only bare patches of grass left, and no buds can be seen.

The village chief's wife came out next. Her face was a little red, probably from the sun. She was probably cooking in the kitchen.

I went out to greet guests when I saw them coming.

But she couldn't speak Mandarin, so she could only smile at them.

When Ling Yechen saw such a scene, he almost couldn't control himself and turned around to leave.

But because of my upbringing, I still bit the bullet and followed the village chief into the house.

The house is a bit short, built with round logs, and you can feel the wind blowing in from outside. Ling Yechen's height makes it a little inconvenient here, and he has to bend down slightly to get inside.
In the dark room, there is a small light bulb hanging, which should be fifty or sixty watts. The light and wires are covered with a layer of black stuff.

Ling Yeshen didn't know what it was, but Hu Tao knew that they both came from the countryside. Although there were some differences, many things were the same.

The lamps are covered with soot. In rural areas, there is a habit of burning fires for cooking. This is the case at Hutao's house, and it is also the case here. Because of the long-term fire burning, a layer of black dust will fall on the house.

The house is not big, and there is a fire pit above.

There is a huge black cauldron placed above the fire pit.

You can see the steam coming out even with the lid on.

The smell should be that a pot of meat has been cooked.

The two people were arranged by the village chief to sit on the stools at the top of the fire pit.

The stool is very short, which makes Ling Yechen feel a little uncomfortable with long legs.

The village chief enthusiastically introduced them to the situation at home, including the meat cooking in the pot.

"Thank you for your hard work. Our village is relatively poor. Don't dislike it. You are hungry. Dinner will be served soon." Then he asked his wife to prepare the meal quickly.

Hutao was still polite: "My family is also from a rural area, which is already very good. Thank you to the village chief for the reception."

Ling Yechen never spoke a word from beginning to end.

Hu Tao knew that he would definitely not be able to accept such an environment, but because the two only met today, they didn't say much.

Soon, the meal started. Each of the children took a big bowl and scooped out a bowl of white rice. Then their mother scooped out some meat and vegetables for everyone.

They took the bowls and went out, and the whole process was quiet.

Even the five-year-old is doing the same thing with his elder brothers and sisters.

Hutao knew at a glance that the children were going out to eat.

Ling Yechen didn't understand. After looking at it for a while, he asked: "What are they?"

The village chief smiled and said: "It's okay, don't worry about them, you eat quickly, it won't taste good when it's cold."

Hu Tao felt a little distressed when she saw several children sitting quietly at the door with their rice bowls and eating.

Although her family is also in a rural area and the family is not very harmonious, at least she has never sat at the door to eat. No matter how many guests come, they can all eat together.

Hutao said to the village chief: "Village chief, you don't have to do this. Let them come in and eat. It will be cold outside."

But the village chief insisted, and she said no more.

The meal is very simple, just a pot of meat, a little suckling pig that was killed just this morning after the village chief said he knew they were coming, and then a plate of fried potatoes.

Hutao was a little hungry, so she didn't pay too much attention and ate two bowls of rice.

But Ling Yechen put down his bowl and chopsticks after just one bowl.

Hutao thought he was from the city, so he ate little, so he didn't care.

After dinner, the village chief told them about the school situation of the children in the whole village and where they would go tomorrow.

In fact, they had already obtained the list in advance and knew which children from which families were attending school.

After finishing repairs at the village chief's house tonight, we will set off to each child's home tomorrow morning.
