Chapter 407 Attack and Kill

Maogu Village at night was shrouded in a tense war atmosphere. The Chinese army had already attacked the outer positions of the village. Although it was already dark, the cold guns and artillery fire did not stop.

In the courtyard covered with dilapidated bricks and tiles, the lights flickered in the command post belonging to the 20th Regiment of the Japanese remnants.

Under the dim light, the unkempt staff officers were nervously formulating a defense plan, and the map was a mess with various lines drawn on it.

In the small room on the other side, the indicator light of the radio station was flashing continuously, and the communication soldiers were nervously communicating with the surrounding troops.

The main force of the Chinese army has tightly surrounded the Sanyi Village and Maogu Village areas with their 14th Division. Originally, they were expected to seize Lanfeng and break through the encirclement.

However, as the Chinese army once again deployed troops to the battlefield, their situation was already precarious. Not only was they short of water and food, but more importantly, they were running out of ammunition. Facing several times the number of Chinese troops, they could no longer hold on for long.

The Japanese commander sat in the middle of the room, holding the ancestral samurai sword in both hands. His white gloves had become dirty and dirty. Hearing the sound of gunfire from time to time, his expression became more and more impatient.

"Have you contacted the baggage regiment? When will our ammunition supplies be delivered?"

Seeing the chief of staff with muddy feet walking into the room, the commander raised his head and asked.

They have always relied heavily on the air fire support of the aviation force and the various artillery advantages of their army to crush the Chinese army. Therefore, most of the time they are invincible and have defeated the Chinese army with artillery fire almost before close combat.

But their 14th Division had been surrounded like an iron barrel. As the war dragged on, logistical supplies came to a standstill. Although the various artillery pieces were intact, they ran out of shells.

Now they finally realized that the Chinese army was frustrated at that time and could only sit in the mud-filled trenches and let the Chinese army's artillery fire attack without the ability to fight back. This made the Japanese commander urgently need artillery support.

The chief of staff also understood the regimental commander's mood at the moment. After all, he was used to using artillery fire to attack the Chinese army from a distance. Now he has suddenly lost this advantage and it is difficult to adapt.

"Your Excellency, Regiment Commander, the division headquarters replied that the baggage regiment has withdrawn into Sanyi Village, and the ammunition they carried has been exhausted. I am afraid that the next batch of artillery shells will need to be air-dropped to us by the aviation unit when the weather clears tomorrow."

Although the Japanese commander had already given up any hope of replenishing ammunition, upon hearing this answer, he still couldn't help cursing in his heart. When had they ever experienced such cowardice? They could only be beaten and could not fight back.

"How many bullets do our soldiers have?" the captain continued to ask after a moment of silence.

The chief of staff replied: "There is still about a base. If the China Army launches an offensive, I'm afraid it won't last long."

Hearing that the soldiers only had a basic amount of ammunition, the Japanese commander's face became extremely solemn. He ordered: "Order all departments to save ammunition and be mentally prepared for hand-to-hand stabbing!"

Hearing that the always invincible troops were actually relying on spears to defend their positions, the chief of staff couldn't help but shake his head and sigh.

"Report!" When the two of them were speechless, a communications staff officer hurried over.

"The commander of the regiment and the division commander ordered our troops to prepare for an attack. After dawn, we will attack in the direction of the twin towers and open a gap for the main force of the division to break through."

Upon hearing this new order, the Japanese commander and chief of staff looked at each other, and saw solemnity in each other's eyes.

Now that their soldiers are tired and lack ammunition, they can hardly defend Maogu Village. The division commander letting them try to break out will undoubtedly put them on the road to death. Without the cover of artillery fire, they can only rely on their army troops to attack.

, will definitely cause huge casualties.

Although there were many difficulties, the Japanese commander did not dare to disobey the military order. He could only ask the chief of staff to contact the division headquarters to see if they could get air support from the aviation unit. Otherwise, given their strength, they would suffer heavy losses.

While the Japanese commanders at all levels were busy at night, a small and inconspicuous unit, like wild beasts with fangs exposed, approached the Japanese command post in Maogu Village.

There were only four Japanese sentries guarding the perimeter of the courtyard. They were exhausted, but they had to work hard to guard the surroundings.

There were footsteps in the darkness, which immediately aroused the alert of the Japanese sentries. A Japanese sergeant immediately pulled the bolt of his gun, pointed at the darkness and shouted: "Password!"

"Must win!"

In the darkness, Wang Dongming, dressed as a Japanese second lieutenant, appeared in the sight of the Japanese sentry with a straight face, followed by a group of more than ten fully armed soldiers.

When the Japanese sergeant saw Wang Dongming, who was carrying the rank of captain, he felt strange, but he still put away his gun and saluted him.

"Sir, what are you doing here?"

The Japanese military commander asked respectfully, but his gloomy eyes were looking at Yang Ling and the others. He had not received the order to change defenses.

Yang Ling and the others did not look sideways and stood there neatly, no different from ordinary Japanese soldiers, so the Japanese army sergeants did not feel anything was wrong.

"We were ordered to assist in the defense to strengthen the security force of the wing headquarters." Wang Dongming said as he took out a bag of cigarettes from his pocket and lit it for himself.

Seeing the cigarette in Wang Dongming's hand, the Japanese soldier originally wanted to ask some questions, but now his Adam's apple turned and his eyes were shining, staring at Wang Dongming's cigarette, salivating.

They had been fighting fiercely on this battlefield for less than half a month, and now not only the supplies were out, but also the cigarettes were gone. Seeing Wang Dongming smoking, he suddenly became addicted to cigarettes.

Wang Dongming saw the little Japanese's helpless look, threw the wrinkled cigarette to the sergeant and said, "You guys should split it up."

"Thank you sir, thank you sir."

Seeing the cigarette thrown into his hand by his companion, the ghost sergeant thanked Wang Dongming profusely, waved to the other three ghosts, and lit them together.

While the Japs were lighting up their cigarettes together, Yang Ling and the others quietly surrounded the Japs.

When the Japanese Army took a deep breath from the cigarette, raised his head and blew out the smoke ring as if enjoying it, he suddenly felt a chill in his lower abdomen.

He looked down and saw the smiling second lieutenant looking at him coldly. A sharp bayonet was piercing his lower abdomen. Severe pain hit his mind, making him almost cry out in pain.

Wang Dongming had quick eyes and quick hands. He covered the Japs Sergeant's mouth with one hand, twisted it hard with the other hand to smash his internal organs, and then pulled out the bayonet.

The Japanese soldier wanted to struggle, but his whole body was weak. Soon his head went black and his body fell limply to the ground.

On the other side, Yang Ling and Shunzi each went around behind the Japanese sentries. They were already familiar with covering their mouths and wiping their necks, and they killed several Japanese sentries quietly.

"You stay outside, I'll take someone in."

Yang Ling ordered Wang Dongming, whose hands were covered with blood, and strode into the courtyard with ten other brothers.

Wang Dongming knelt down and wiped off the sticky blood from the dead Japanese soldier. He waved to the other two brothers to help take off the body and hide it under the wooden board next to it. They took over the position of sentry.
