Chapter 442: Confrontation

Lieutenant Colonel Morishige, the commander of the 1st Battalion of the Japanese 6th Brigade, surrounded by a group of lieutenants, stepped onto the Chinese army position where corpses were strewn.

The smoke of gunpowder had not dissipated, and the air was still filled with the strong smell of blood. In the jungle ravine directly in front of him, wolf-like Japanese soldiers were chasing the retreating Chinese army.

Seeing the Chinese troops fleeing in embarrassment across the mountains and plains, Lieutenant Colonel Morishige had a look of contempt on his face.

He mocked: "I thought the Chinese 74th Army was so powerful, but it turns out it's nothing more than that."

The faces of the surrounding lieutenants were full of arrogance and pride, and they chuckled softly.

The 74th Army almost annihilated the Dofeiyuan Division on the Lanfeng battlefield. It was also the main force of the Central Army, so the Japanese army attached great importance to it.

After Morishung's brigade defeated the Sichuan troops guarding Minshan, they encountered the 302nd Regiment of the 74th Army coming for reinforcements.

When Lieutenant Colonel Morishige learned that he was facing the 74th Army, he became excited and wanted to compete with such a powerful opponent as the 74th Army to prove his strength.

In just the first round of the battle between the two sides, Morishige's brigade wiped out the first battalion of the 302nd Regiment, and now they completely defeated the remaining two battalions.

Lieutenant Colonel Morishige, who was about to roll up his sleeves and fight, did not expect that the 74th Army was so vulnerable, and felt extremely disappointed.

"Your Majesty Lieutenant Colonel, do you want to order a halt to the pursuit?"

A lieutenant saw that the attacking troops had run away for nearly a mile chasing the defeated Chinese army. He was worried about the Chinese army's counterattack, so he asked for help.

Lieutenant Colonel Morishige, who had a contempt for the Chinese army, was not willing to let go of the retreating Chinese army. He had not had enough of fighting yet.

He ordered: "Order the troops to continue the pursuit and completely annihilate this Chinese army in one go!"

Lieutenant Colonel Morishige also considered encountering Chinese troops and counterattacking, but do these Chinese troops have the courage?

Morishige shook his head. Looking at the helpless and defeated Chinese troops, Lieutenant Colonel Morishige could not believe that they had the courage to fight back.

Even if they had the courage to fight back, the wolf-like soldiers under his command would defeat them. Morishige had mysterious confidence in his men.

Just as Lieutenant Colonel Morishige stood in high spirits on the newly captured position and talked loudly, the pursuing Japanese army also entered Yang Ling's range.

The brothers hiding in the woods and bushes stared at the Japanese soldiers who were getting closer and closer, and gently pulled the bolt of the gun, and all the bullets were loaded into the barrel of the gun.

These pursuing Japs held guns in hand and kept leaping forward in pursuit. Obstacles such as weeds and rocks could not hinder their progress at all.

Their eyes were all attracted by the Chinese soldiers fleeing in embarrassment in front of them, and they didn't notice at all.

In the jungles and hills on both sides of them, the dark muzzles of a new force were already aimed at them.

Yang Ling had been observing the distance of these Japanese pursuers, and when he saw that most of them had entered the shooting range of his brothers, he gave the order to shoot without hesitation.

"Fire!" Yang Ling hid behind the big rocks, yelled and raised his gun and fired at a Japanese soldier who was leaping forward.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

Yang Ling continuously pulled the trigger, and the gun body trembled as bullets sprayed out, making it seem like it was about to fly away.

The scorching bullets penetrated the Japs soldier's body with a pop. His body seemed to have been hit by a heavy hammer. He stumbled and fell forward to the ground.

Yang Ling's gunshot was an order, and the brothers in ambush all pulled the triggers and opened fire.

Bullets fell like raindrops into the Japs' pursuing soldiers, blood spattered, and the Japs soldiers who jumped forward were thrown to the ground in pieces like wheat.

The machine guns installed in the forest were even more ferocious. The bullets cut off the leaves and branches along the way like wind, and then swept into the Japanese soldiers.

The body of the Japanese soldier was as fragile as rotten tofu in the violent rain of bullets, and large clouds of blood mist appeared.

The Japanese soldiers suffered heavy losses in this round of sudden fire attacks. Their bodies kept falling and rolling into the ravine, and the grass and rocks were dyed blood red.

"There is an ambush! There is an ambush!" The Japanese soldiers were stunned and hurriedly lay down to hide and fight back.

But bullets were fired from the jungle and the condescending hills on the other side, and the Japanese lying on the ground were like living targets, pinned to the ground and unable to move.

The aggressive Japanese soldiers were beaten with corpses everywhere and rivers of blood flowing in an instant.

Lieutenant Colonel Morishige, who was feeling proud of having captured the Chinese army's position, was also alerted by the sudden burst of gunfire and hurriedly looked forward with his binoculars.

No one knew this, but they were shocked to see that the hundreds of soldiers who were chasing them were pinned down in the ravine by Chinese troops who appeared out of nowhere.

"Where did these Chinese people come from?!"

Seeing the ferocious firepower swept out of the forest, Lieutenant Colonel Morishige roared angrily.

Yang Ling and his three battalions had just arrived with a quick march, so the Japanese naturally didn't know that the reinforcements had arrived.

"It should be the Chinese reinforcements that have arrived," a Japanese lieutenant guessed.

It was too late to say anything now. Facing Yang Ling's ferocious firepower, Morichung had to grit his teeth and order the chasing troops to withdraw to avoid suffering more losses.

But it is easy to rush out, but it is not so easy to withdraw.

Not only did the Japanese pursuers chasing the 302nd Regiment suffer heavy losses, but the condescending machine guns blocked their retreat. It was not that easy to retreat.

"Let the third squadron pick them up and come back! The artillery squadron covers them!"

Seeing that the outgoing troops were suppressed, Lieutenant Colonel Morishige sent a squadron to respond, and at the same time ordered the artillery in the brigade to fire at Yang Ling and the others.

A squadron of nearly two hundred Japanese soldiers came out of the trenches and rushed toward the high ground occupied by Shunzi and others, trying to seize the high ground and cover the evacuation of the suppressed friendly forces.

Seeing these Japanese soldiers rushing towards them, Captain Shunzi, the company commander, did not even glance at them and continued to direct his troops to beat the Japanese soldiers who were suppressing them in the open area.

It's not that Shunzi doesn't care about the Japs in this squadron, it's because someone is dealing with them.

An infantry company commanded by Deputy Battalion Elder Yan Qiang and hundreds of Sichuan Army brothers were hiding behind those rocks. How could they let them go so easily?

Seeing these Japanese squadrons hunkering down at Shunzi and others at the top of the mountain, Lao Yanqiang's lips curved into a sneer.

"Brothers! Grenades say hello!"

There was only a distance of more than thirty meters between them and these Japanese soldiers. Because of the cover of large rocks and vegetation, the Japanese reinforcements did not realize that there was a company hidden here.

A string of grenades hit the Japs on the head, and the rumble of explosions immediately enveloped the Japs.

Old smokers and other veterans are as smart as monkeys. They throw grenades with a delay of a few seconds.

The consequence of this was that many grenades exploded in the air, leaving the enemy with no place to hide. The lethality was astonishing, and a large area was immediately blown up.

"Come on!" Seeing that the Japanese were stunned by the grenade blast, Lao Yanqiang waved his hand and rushed out with the shell gun before waiting for the opponent's reaction.

An infantry company and hundreds of Sichuan Army brothers hiding here also roared together and rushed towards the Japanese soldiers dozens of meters away.

These Japanese soldiers were blown up by grenades and suffered heavy losses. When they saw the dark Chinese army charging, they immediately felt weak.

Although the Japanese soldiers are fierce masters, they are not stupid either. Who knows how many people were ambushed here, and the remaining Japanese soldiers turned around and ran back.

Lao Yanqiang and the others chased after the Japs and quickly broke into the position the Japs had just occupied.
