Chapter five hundred and eighty fourth fire test

Liu Yidao crawled on his knees and slowly moved closer to the Japanese position in the darkness. When he was still about a hundred meters away from the Japanese position, he climbed into a bomb crater and hid himself in the darkness.

Panting heavily, he placed the 79 rifle on the edge of the crater, carefully looking at the darkness around him and adjusting his breathing.

In the darkness that he couldn't see, there were faint rustling sounds, but they quickly disappeared. If you didn't identify them carefully, you would have thought they were mice looking for food.

There were many corpses scattered on the battlefield, most of which had been covered up by the soil thrown up by the falling shells, but the stench of decay could not be covered up.

The combat team responsible for fire reconnaissance had quietly sneaked to the periphery of the Japanese position and hid there. Although the Japanese position was dark, they could vaguely hear the Japanese's muffled conversations.

Liu Yidao was no longer the leading soldier carrying a gun, and was now considered a serious battalion commander. However, he was worried and personally led the combat team out.

Guessing that time was almost up, Liu Yidao gently pulled the bolt of the gun. With a slight crackling sound, he loaded the bullet into the chamber and immediately aimed in the direction of the Japs' position.

"What's the sound?" A Japanese soldier heard a rattling sound in the darkness, and he immediately poked half of his head out of his sentry post.

Another Japanese gunman looked sideways into the eerily quiet darkness, his face full of confusion. He heard nothing.

"Takahashi-kun, did you hear wrongly?" The Japanese who heard nothing asked doubtfully.

The Japs who heard the voice looked into the quiet darkness with doubts on his face. Did he really hear it wrong?

Just as the Japs named Takahashi was about to take his head back, suddenly a dazzling gun flame erupted in the darkness not far away, and a dull gunshot sounded.

The hot bullet whizzed past and hit the prisoner's head. With a pop, a stream of warm blood spurted onto the other prisoner's face.

His companion fell straight beside him, and the other Japanese man was so frightened that he hurriedly rolled into the bunker.

"Whizzing--"

Several more whistling bullets flew over, hitting the edge of the trench and splashing a cloud of mud. Those were the shots fired by the remaining brothers in the combat team.

The Japanese soldier who was lucky enough to escape the disaster gasped and pushed himself up from the trench, pushed up his skewed helmet, and shouted sternly: "China people! There are Chinese people at five o'clock!"

"

The Japs in the machine gun trench also reacted quickly. When the gunshot fired, they jumped up and rushed towards the machine gun.

Hearing the shouts of the sentry, he quickly turned his gun and pulled the trigger in the direction of Liu Yidao and the others.

"Teng Teng Teng..."

The roar of the Type 92 heavy machine gun shook the eardrums, a string of scarlet bullets spurted out from the muzzle, and a chain of fire swept towards Liu Yidao and the others with the breath of death.

"Puff puff!"

The scarlet heavy machine gun bullets were almost licking the ground as they passed by. Liu Yidao and the others had to roll to avoid them, as pillars of mud bounced behind them.

Liu Yidao and the others did not go far away. After evading the enemy's heavy machine gun sweep, they quickly pulled the bolt of their guns and fired back. The two sides suddenly started fighting with thunderbolts.

When Liu Yidao and others launched a tentative attack on the Japanese defense line, the rest of the combat team also fired at the Japanese from different directions.

The Japs had long been prepared for the Chinese ** team to come and harass them at night. When the combat team fired at the Japs defense line, they were immediately greeted by ferocious bullets in return.

"Damn the Chinese!" the Japanese machine gun shooters cursed and pulled the triggers, firing violent bullets into the darkness.

Under the light of the dark red bullet belt, they could even see a figure in the darkness not far away, rolling away in embarrassment under the pursuit of bullets.

"Show flares!" a Japanese officer gave the order.

"Hey!" The Japs equipped with flares hurriedly took out the flares, and with a hissing sound, the flares swayed into the sky.

Under the pale light of the flares, the Japanese in the position could clearly see the messy area in front of the position, with sporadic Chinese officers and soldiers moving around.

Perhaps the flare exposed them, and they began to retreat in panic. How could the Japanese machine gunners let go of such an opportunity? A string of bullets flew past.

As the sporadic Chinese officers and soldiers exited the bright range of the flares and disappeared into the darkness again, the Japanese machine guns also stopped.

As soon as the senior Japanese officers went to bed, they received news of the attack by a small group of Chinese infiltration troops. They had already made plans for this, so they didn't pay much attention.

"Order the security forces to strengthen defenses and curb the infiltration of small groups of the China Army. The combat troops should ignore them and recharge their batteries to prepare for tomorrow's attack."

"Hey Yi!" The Japanese messenger went out with the commander's order, but the gunshots outside still did not stop.

The sporadic exchanges of fire in front of the Japanese positions did not attract the attention of the Japanese senior commanders, because they were accustomed to the tactics of the Japanese squadron attacking at night.

However, these sporadic exchanges gradually increased, and eventually gunshots rang out from all lines of defense. At most, there were at least a hundred places where gunfire was exchanged.

"Could it be that the Chinese want to launch an attack?"

Among the Japanese security forces, there were many keen Japanese officers who smelled an unusual and dangerous atmosphere from these sporadic exchanges of fire that gradually increased.

"The Chinese Army has been beaten to a pulp by us and is no longer capable of launching a large-scale counterattack. This is just an attack by their small infiltration force, so don't take it to heart."

Most of the Japanese officers had an optimistic attitude. Under their ferocious attacks, the Chinese Army was indeed having a hard time resisting.

Soon, the fire test teams sent by various Chinese troops stopped firing and returned to their respective troops. The gunfire on the battlefield finally subsided.

"The Chinese have withdrawn."

Facing the enemy's heavy and light machine gun fire, seeing the Chinese ** team stop the attack, they wisely retreated.

Many Japanese soldiers released their guns, showed relaxed expressions, and sat down to rest along the trench again. But what they didn't know was that a bigger attack storm was brewing in the darkness.

"The weak areas of the Japanese defense line's firepower points have been clearly identified." Liu Yidao and the others returned to their positions and marked them on a simple map.

Liu Yidao and others' attack on the Japanese was not to penetrate the Japanese defense line, but to test the firepower of the entire army's offensive operations.

After this round of firepower testing, the enemy's firepower situation has been roughly figured out, and their real attack will avoid these powerful firepower points, thereby avoiding greater casualties.
