Chapter 64 Handover of the position

On the smoke-filled battlefield, the sudden arrival of Chinese reinforcements immediately panicked the Japanese soldiers. Many Japanese soldiers who advanced forward were caught off guard and retreated in confusion.

"Hold still! Shoot!"

Lieutenant Akino was not willing to evacuate the Chinese position they were about to capture, and shouted at the Japanese soldiers to reorganize their defense line.

The Japanese's four or five light machine guns were mounted on sandbags and sprayed tongues of fire at the charging Chinese soldiers. The dense rain of bullets formed an airtight fire net.

The charging Chinese soldiers puffed out their chests and charged forward as if they were not afraid of death. Then there was a rain of blood in the sky, and their bodies were torn into pieces. They charged forward one after another, and then some people continued to be shot and fell down.

Yang Ling's face was as heavy as water. He threw an empty magazine somewhere and replaced it with a new one. He placed the butt of the machine gun on his shoulder and fired suppressively at the Japanese machine gun.

Puff puff puff! Bullets were flying randomly on the sandbags, and the three main Japanese shooters had their heads blown off, but the Japanese radiators immediately moved away and killed the main shooters, taking over their positions.

Yang Ling kept shooting until all the magazines were emptied, and then the three Japanese machine guns were silenced. The charging Chinese soldiers had already pressed forward after paying a heavy price.

Yang Ling pulled out his bayonet from the scabbard, hung up his rifle, and jumped up from the crater. Following the reinforcements, he rushed towards the Japanese. He wanted revenge for the dead Captain Li Zhong and the dead Xiong Dawu.

Luo Ziqiang...for millions of Chinese.

Lieutenant Akino's face was full of fierceness, he raised the sharp saber in his hand and roared, and more than a hundred Japanese soldiers came forward with bayonets in hand.

It was another brutal hand-to-hand battle. The Chinese soldiers who lacked ammunition on this land relied on flesh-and-blood combat to fight back and forth with the Japanese, using their lives to guard this land that was filled with blood and tears.

"Ah!" Lieutenant Akino's sharp saber slashed out diagonally. With a pop, a young Chinese soldier's arm was cut off and he rolled to the ground wailing.

Poof! Lieutenant Akino strode forward with a ferocious look on his face, his saber pierced hard, and the splatter of blood made him look even more ferocious. The Chinese soldier who fell to the ground was killed.

"Kill the little Japanese!" Two more Chinese soldiers rushed forward angrily, but were quickly knocked to the ground by Lieutenant Akino. Whether it was physical fitness or tactical literacy, these Chinese soldiers in rags were not well-trained Japanese.

Soldier opponent.

Yang Ling also noticed this fierce Japanese officer, strode forward, swung away Lieutenant Akino's saber with his bayonet, and knocked him to the ground.

A Chinese soldier who rushed up saw the Japanese rolling on the ground and slashed him with the saber in his hand. Lieutenant Akino rolled over and dodged.

Like a wounded beast, Lieutenant Qiuye struggled and bumped into the Chinese soldier. The Chinese soldier was unsteady and fell to the ground.

Lieutenant Qiuye screamed and stabbed the Chinese soldier with his sword on his face, but Yang Ling's attack had already arrived. The wooden gun butt hit Lieutenant Qiuye's head hard. With a muffled bang, Lieutenant Qiuye stepped back.

Rolled to the ground.

The violent impact made his head dizzy, and his movements began to become sluggish. Yang Ling's face was cold, and the bayonet had already stabbed into his heart.

The severe pain made Lieutenant Akino go crazy. He bared his teeth and roared, exposing his white teeth, which looked particularly terrifying.

"I'll chop you to death! I'll chop you to death!" The Chinese soldier who was almost killed by Lieutenant Akino rushed over with his saber and chopped with all his strength, until his flesh and blood were destroyed.

On this battlefield covered with fallen soldiers of the 61st Division, the Sichuan Army soldiers who rushed to the battlefield from more than 2,000 miles away once again shed their lives and blood.

These soldiers wearing single clothes and straw sandals fought to the death with the capable Japanese soldiers. Many of them did not have bayonets. They smashed them with rifles without bayonets and chopped with the sabers they carried...

The shouts of "kill Zhentian" were heard on the battlefield, and these tired Sichuan soldiers rushed up screaming. Their crazy state of not fearing death made even the Japanese soldiers tremble.

The Japanese soldiers stabbed hard, but they stabbed a Sichuan soldier over, and three or four more Sichuan soldiers rushed forward with roars. The two sides rolled to the ground and struggled with each other, fighting for every inch of ground. Their clothes were dyed red with blood, and the ground was dyed red.

Make the ground sticky and slippery.

This reinforcement from Sichuan was from the 799th Regiment of the 133rd Division of the 20th Army of the Sichuan Army. They traveled a long way to the Songhu battlefield and were pulled up before they had time to take a breath.

Their leader, Lin Xiaohou, was a thin, iron-blooded man with somewhat dark skin. He raised his short gun and shouted for a fierce battle, and kept shooting at the Japanese soldiers who were charging forward.

When he ran out of bullets, he pulled out the saber he was carrying and started a hand-to-hand fight with the Japanese soldier. The Japanese soldier's bayonet stabbed his arm. He groaned and kicked the Japanese soldier to the ground with all his strength.

Before he could finish off the Japanese who was kicked to the ground, another Japanese rushed up from behind, grabbed his waist with both hands and knocked him down.

The two Japs pressed Lin Xiaohou to the ground and strangled his neck, making his face turn purple and making it difficult to breathe. Seeing the ferocious faces of the Japs, he struggled.

Everyone on the battlefield was fighting to the death with the Japanese. Only three or four Chinese soldiers could fight evenly with one Japanese soldier. No one noticed the regiment commander Lin Xiaohou who was pinned down in the trench by the Japanese.

Yang Ling wore cowhide shoes that had been ripped off the bodies of dead Japs and kicked one of the Japs to the ground. The Japs let out a painful scream and rolled over in the muddy water.

The blood-stained bayonet immediately pierced the back of another Japs. When the bayonet was pulled out with a stream of blood arrows, the Japs finally released their grip on the regiment leader Lin Xiaohou's hand.

"Cough cough cough... cough cough cough..." Lin Xiaohou coughed violently and gasped for air.

"Are you okay?" Yang Ling stretched out his hand to pull Lin Xiaohou up from the muddy water and asked with concern.

"Thank you brother, otherwise I would have to see the Lord of Hell!" Lin Xiaohou picked up the saber on the ground and was full of gratitude to Yang Ling.

The Japanese soldier who was kicked over struggled to get up and pounced on him again with his bayonet in hand.

"Kill the little Japanese first! Let's talk later!" Lin Xiaohou said, already raising his saber and rushing out to fight with the Japanese soldiers.

Yang Ling did not hesitate and rushed towards another Japanese soldier in the trench, and the fighting continued.

Faced with the fearless fight of the Sichuan soldiers, the Japanese soldiers finally couldn't hold on any longer and retreated in embarrassment, leaving behind more than a hundred corpses.

Lin Xiaohou commanded the Sichuan soldiers to pursue, but Yang Ling stopped him in time. The Japanese were very cunning. When they retreated, they would often shoot back with machine guns to cover their retreat. Many people in the 61st Division were killed in this way.

After a fierce and brutal battle, a squadron led by Lieutenant Akino was almost wiped out. Only a few dozen Japs escaped, but countless corpses of Sichuan soldiers were added to the position.

In the past warlord civil wars, these Chinese brothers wearing different military uniforms always had a fight when they met, but now they are all Chinese, fighting side by side in the same trench for the first time to resist foreign humiliation.

The remnant soldiers belonging to the 61st Division followed their Sichuan Army brothers to fight back. Now seeing the Japanese retreating, they collapsed on the ground in exhaustion, enjoying the joy of the rest of their lives.

"Brother, we are from the 799th Regiment of the Sichuan Army. Where is your regiment leader?" Lin Xiaohou's arm was bandaged and he approached Yang Ling and asked.

Yang Ling pointed to the trench filled with corpses and said with a sad expression: "Regiment Commander Li Zhong was killed in action last night. We are the only ones left in our regiment with more than ten people. I am Yang Ling, the deputy company commander."

Lin Xiaohou immediately stood in awe of these bloody remnants of the 61st Division and saluted them with a military salute.

Lin Xiaohou took out a crumpled piece of paper from his blood-stained pocket and handed it to Yang Ling. On it was the handover order issued by the Central Route Army Headquarters.

"Lin Xiaohou, commander of the 799th Regiment of the 133 Division, led his troops and was ordered to take over your position! Please hand over!" Lin Xiaohou saluted Yang Ling and shouted loudly.

Yang Ling looked stern, held his head high, saluted and shouted loudly: "The 361st Regiment of the 61st Division has completed its mission of holding on, and the position has not been lost. Now we are ordered to hand it over! Please take over the position with the 799th Regiment!"
