Chapter 928 The puppet army

Lurking in the icy wilderness in the middle of winter, the cold that invades the bone marrow is devouring the fighting power of the brothers. Although they huddle in the foxholes as much as possible, they still cannot feel the slightest warmth.

Those experienced veterans will keep their stiff and cold hands and feet under control through slight movements that are almost invisible.

But more of the recruits were lurking there with stiff and cold bodies. They had lost consciousness in the face of cold and stiff hands and feet. Some of them were even sleepy, their eyelids were twitching, and they were drowsy and hallucinating.

Fortunately, the deputy battalion commander Liu Jinhu, who was disguised as a weed, patrolled everywhere like a wriggling snake and discovered the bad state of the brothers. He asked the brothers in adjacent foxholes to look after each other to prevent any brothers from actually being slept on.

If you sleep in this bitingly cold wilderness, even if you are wearing cotton clothes and smeared with lard, you may still freeze to death.

In the more than ten years of fighting against the Japanese invaders, the Chinese Communist Party, which had backward weapons and equipment, fought most at night in close combat and ambush battles.

Because only in the dark night and sudden ambush operations, can we narrow the firepower gap with the Japanese as much as possible and achieve an acceptable exchange ratio.

However, this exchange ratio is also relative. Facing those short, strong, and explosive Japanese soldiers, the Chinese officers and soldiers with yellow faces, thin muscles, and malnutrition actually have no advantage.

But compared to those who were bombarded by the Japanese heavy artillery, they had no power to fight back. In the close combat with the Japanese, they could use grenades to pull back some people. In every close battle, countless brothers would rush into the Japanese with grenades strapped to their bodies, even though they knew it was the enemy.

Death, but they still have no hesitation.

Close combat is brutal. Fighting an ambush may seem easy, but it is not. In the early stages of the war, a large number of inexperienced squadrons were often discovered by the enemy's leading soldiers before the enemy entered the ambush circle.

Because the Japs' vanguard soldiers almost always march parallel in the fields one to two hundred meters on both sides of the road, they will be discovered if there is any disturbance, unless they are too late to dispatch the vanguard soldiers during an emergency rescue, but they will also conduct fire reconnaissance.

Once the Japs discover an ambush, a brutal battle will follow. The Chinese team that failed in the ambush will have to evacuate and relocate immediately.

Because they could not compete head-on with the Japanese except for ambush, so every time the ambush failed and they quickly evacuated, they would leave a force to cover and block the Japanese pursuers. These troops who left behind the cover were often annihilated.

Such cases of failed ambushes occurred almost every week on the Chinese battlefield, because many of the troops ambushing the Japanese were new recruits, or even guerrillas without any military training, and the probability of being discovered by the Japanese in advance was very high.

But even so, ambush warfare is still one of the most effective methods of combat to eliminate the Japanese. Once successful, it is a great victory.

At this moment, deputy battalion commander Liu Jinhu and his brothers from an infantry company were lying in ambush in a field beside a small stream, waiting for the puppet troops to return for reinforcements.

Compared with those guerrilla units that were mixed with good and bad, the guerrilla army under Yang Ling had gone through at least a week of devilish training, and strict military discipline had been ingrained into their bones.

Although the recruits had heard of many cases of failed ambushes and were shivering from the cold, none of them dared to move. Even if they froze to death, they could only lie down in place.

Once military discipline is violated, in the guerrilla army where orders and prohibitions are enforced, battlefield discipline may be enforced before even leaving the battlefield.

The guerrilla corps has both a tender side and a ruthless side, because this is the army, and sometimes harsh means must be used to ensure the safety of most of the brothers.

"Here, someone is coming."

The observation sentry hidden in a tree noticed the smoke billowing on the road in the distance. After warning, he slid down from the tree like an ape and quickly hid himself.

There was a slight commotion in the wilderness. Except for the whistling cold wind and the stream flowing not far away, the wilderness soon returned to calm.

The brothers were well camouflaged. The shallow foxholes were just enough to keep their bodies level with the horizon. Their bodies were covered with loose soil and grass. From a distance, this was just a field full of grass.

The enemy would never have expected that the guerrilla officers and soldiers would ambush them in such an unobstructed and flat area, but the guerrillas attacked by surprise.

In the telescope set up by deputy battalion commander Liu Jinhu, more than a dozen puppet cavalry wearing large-brimmed hats were galloping along the road. The rumble of their horse hooves raised smoke and dust, and the ground trembled.

These more than ten puppet cavalrymen were scouts who came forward. They were all wearing khaki cotton-padded clothes, their faces were bruised from the cold, and they were beating the horses constantly.

Behind these cavalry, smoke was also billowing, and the large group of puppet troops were running forward. A large flag marking the fifth brigade and third battalion of the security army was being swept and stirred by the cold wind.

The enemy that appeared was a battalion of the puppet army, with at least five to six hundred people, and their weapons and equipment were very messy. This was what deputy battalion commander Liu Jinhu observed through the telescope.

Although they only have one company, they are all Japanese-style equipment, and the machine gun company temporarily transferred one heavy machine gun and three light machine guns to them. In addition to what they were originally equipped with in the company, only the light and heavy machine guns are enough.

There are thirteen towers.

In addition, there are several grenade groups and half-baked sniper groups, and they are very densely lurking. By narrowing the shooting surface, the firepower density is enhanced.

They are so well-equipped that if they were told, no one would believe that they were guerrillas. But in fact, they were a guerrilla force that emerged from the flames of war.

"Put the leading soldiers over and attack the ones behind." Deputy Battalion Commander Liu Jinhu, the commander of the ambush position, gave the order after putting down his telescope.

The orders were passed on alternately in the low voices of the lurking brothers. The brothers were like a part of the earth, well hidden.

The puppet army's cavalry reconnaissance squad only glanced at the field a few times before riding towards the reed marsh ahead. They felt that the reed marsh was even more dangerous.

The process of ambush is also a battle of wits and courage with the Japanese and puppet troops, but it is very dangerous. If you are not careful, you will lose everything.

The puppet army's reconnaissance cavalry squad rode past, and the mighty puppet soldiers came over with their heads swaying. In the covering dust, each one breathed white air from their nose and mouth.

"Damn, these guerrillas are fucking tougher than weeds. Just after cutting one crop, so many of them popped up again."

"Isn't that right? We killed so many people in the past few days, why did we find another one and break into Gaoyou? It's so damn evil."

"Could it be that Sun Monkey jumped out of the stone and is an immortal body? The ones who are attacking the city now are those we killed before and pretended to be corpses again?"

Saying this so early in the morning still sent chills down the spines of many puppet soldiers who heard this. After all, they are all Chinese and have been in awe of ghosts and gods since ancient times.

"What are you talking about? Believe it or not, I jumped and you threw it to the wild dogs!"

An officer with triangular eyes on horseback galloped past, raised his hand and whipped down the puppet soldier who was speaking.

This horse whip had whipped many captured guerrillas, and the horse whip was soaked with blood and turned dark red. A bloody streak was drawn out of the puppet soldier's face immediately, and he screamed in pain.

Although he screamed in pain, the puppet soldier quickly held back because if he continued to scream, his life might be lost.

"Everyone, run faster, and the ten who are behind will be shot!" This officer with triangular eyes had a fearsome and fierce look on his fleshy face.

The puppet troops who were marching hastily early in the morning were as silent as a chill when faced with the officer on horseback, with fear on their faces, and they accelerated their marching pace.

They didn't want to fall into the hands of this ruthless officer. That would be the fate of those guerrillas who were nailed to the tree with iron nails last night. They couldn't help but shudder at the thought of this.
