Chapter 280 Not a Coincidence

No one knows what words to use to describe this dramatic rout. Or maybe, there is no need for words at all. Just look at the comrades who are escaping together, and then look at your empty hands and the empty ammunition clips.

Understand how useless this battle was!

The Swedish army has always been known as the "number one in Northern Europe in terms of combat effectiveness." Therefore, not only others, but even they themselves believe that they, the "number one in Northern Europe," are the only ones who can fight against the Soviet Union, the "number one in Eastern Europe."

But in the final analysis, those are just bullshit. It’s fine if you don’t poke it, but it will break if you poke it!

Of the more than 8,000 troops, there are now only more than 7,000 left. Judging from the judgment of any professional military professor, this is far from an unbearable level of loss.

But such a relatively complete large-scale army group was scattered so easily. It turned into sand and was messy in the wind.

The Swedish Volunteer Division has been the essence of the entire Nordic army from the beginning. Although their training time is relatively shorter than that of European countries such as Germany and France, it is definitely the longest and most extensive among the four Nordic countries.

Among the Nordic armies, Sweden's troops have the largest number of troops, the best weapons, the best training, and the longest military history, with countless legends.

Less than half an hour after the artillery battle began, the backbone of this Nordic army collapsed, fell apart, and rotted away!

No matter from any aspect, this is a failure in this war.

The Swedish troops, who had been given high hopes, could not even remotely resist.

The Nordic Army, from this moment on, is considered finished. Also finished at the same time is Vyborg, which gathered the Danish remnants and the Finnish detachment and was garrisoned by the Norwegian battalion. There is also the entire Mannerheim Defense Line and the entire Finnish Army.

And all of Finland!

This battle can be called the turning point of the entire Soviet-Finnish war!

The news of the defeat finally reached the Nordic Army Headquarters in Viborg. As the last organized team of the Nordic Army, the Norwegian Battalion led by Alfred had given up all the peripheral positions that were impossible to hold and withdrew as a unit.

City of Vyborg.

"The Swedes were defeated, but they did not report to us. They did not even contact us." Frowning, Alfred said to Marvin in a low voice: "Do you know what this means?"

Although Marvin has made it clear his attitude of working for the Germans, Alfred at this moment can only cooperate with him.

After all, Marvin also had a certain degree of control over the troops and had won over many of Alfred's officers. If he were to confront him, both sides would suffer.

And no matter how distant Marvin may be from him, he is still a Norwegian after all. In the final analysis, what Marvin and even Quisling behind him are doing can be regarded as considering a way out for Norway to a certain extent.

Since Alfred is currently deploying Viborg's peripheral defense, he can work well with Marvin.

In Alfred's view, even if he had to escape with his troops in the end, he had to create some obstacles for the Soviets to slow them down. And the specific way he used them was to make the people in the Vyborg area a stumbling block.

The Finnish militiamen served as cannon fodder, exchanging the blood and sacrifices of the Finnish people for defense time.

If Marvin, who came from Norway with him, was not allowed to handle this kind of thing, would it be possible to discuss it with the Finnish second lieutenant who was staying in Viborg?

"It means they were completely defeated," Marvin thought for a moment, met Alfred's gaze and said, "Perhaps, we will soon have a firefight with the Soviet army."

Although he said this, Marvin also knew that with the mere 700 Norwegian soldiers with only light weapons in his and Alfred's hands, plus more than 20 Finnish guerrillas, and 200 defeated Danish troops,

No matter how you look at it, you are at an absolute military disadvantage.

Although they now nominally manage the military headquarters of the entire Nordic Army, without the Swedish division, this military headquarters with less than a thousand people is just an empty shell that deceives itself and others.

There is only one and a half regiments of troops available. With this number of people, they will never be able to defend the entire Viborg defense section that the Nordic Army was originally responsible for. Of course, even the city of Viborg alone cannot be defended.

"How about..." Marvin thought for a while and tried to copy the way the Finnish guerrillas collected the defeated Danish regiment. He suggested to Alfred: "I will disperse the first company outside Viborg.

Try to pull back more of the remnants of the Swedish Division and consolidate the strength of the defense line."

Because Alfred never gave up his preparation to escape, he used the excuse of returning to defend the city of Viborg to bring all the Norwegian battalion back to the city of Viborg, leaving only the Danish volunteer troops and the Finnish guerrillas.

, as well as the trenches of the Finnish Guards stationed outside the city of Viborg. And Marvin now wants to send the troops out again, which obviously violates Alfred's original intention of doing so.

"It's actually pointless to do this." Alfred raised his eyebrows, walked up to Marvin, patted him on the shoulder and said, "Do you know why I asked you just now, what does it mean to not be able to contact the Swedish division?"

"I've come back to this question just now, right?" Marvin turned his head in confusion and said, "It means they were completely defeated."

Alfred shook his head and smiled slightly: "That's not the most important thing. The most important thing is that it also means that they don't want to continue to resist at all now."

Even if a division is defeated, it is not impossible to contact the rear. Since they have been unable to contact, it is very possible that the other party does not want to contact the current headquarters of the Nordic Army at all.

"They don't want to continue fighting, so they don't want to contact us!" Alfred narrowed his eyes and said solemnly: "They want to escape without reporting and leave the battlefield without permission."

"They want to escape back to the country?!" Marvin simply couldn't believe that the so-called strongest force in Northern Europe would escape regardless of its image?

Although the Swedish division was defeated, they definitely still have no less than a few thousand troops. If such a military-trained unit can join the Vyborg defense line, it will greatly relieve the current pressure.

Compared with the cannon fodder that Alfred asked him to throw on the front line, Marvin was more optimistic about this volunteer army composed of professional soldiers, although it failed, but its base was still large.

There were thousands of soldiers with higher training levels than the troops under his command. How could Marvin, who wanted to hold Viborg according to German wishes, let go like this?

He was even more willing to believe that the reason why the Swedish division could not be contacted was more of an accident than the worst case scenario that Alfred guessed.

"These are your personal speculations after all." After being shocked in silence for a while, Marvin slowly organized his words and tried to refute Alfred: "Maybe everything that happens now is just an accident."

"No! This is not an accident!" Alfred said decisively with a sure look: "Everything that happens now is no coincidence, it was done deliberately by the Swedes!"

"Why?" Marvin asked nervously, clenching his fists and sweating.

"It's simple, because what they are doing now," Alfred raised the corners of his mouth slightly and said, "is exactly the same as what I want to do."
