441 [Seven Backs]

"Stop the civil war and unite to resist Japan!"

"I'd rather die than be a slave to the country's subjugation!"

Zhou Hexuan was riding a rickshaw through the cold and windy streets of Peiping. A parade of hundreds of students on the street was holding banners and shouting slogans, and citizens along the way stopped to watch.

The parade here in Peiping is a small one, but the real big parade is in Nanjing.

At the beginning of the month, thousands of students from various schools in Peiping lay on the tracks for three days and three nights, forcing the railway bureau to send trains to Nanjing to jointly stage demonstrations with thousands of students from Shandong.

After the students arrived in Nanjing, they divided into "radicals" and "moderates." The radicals used the Central University, and the moderates used Jinling University, and took to the streets every day to hold demonstrations, which made the Nanjing National Government miserable.

But at this time, college students were all the pride of heaven and could not be offended easily. The Nanjing authorities comforted and took care of them: each student was given two military blankets, two meat, two vegetarian and one soup for each meal, plus bread, butter and biscuits for snacks.

If you are too late to visit the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum and explore the city, you can eat for free at any restaurant in the city with your meal coupon.

At first, the students threw away all the food they brought, but later they probably had to reluctantly accept it because they didn't have enough money.

Just three days before Chang Kaishen announced his resignation, he personally came out to talk to the protesting students for the 18th time (since September 18th). The "moderate" student groups were appeased and returned home after a day of visits organized by the Nanjing authorities.

The "radicals" continue to hold demonstrations.

Two days later, thousands of students from more than a dozen schools in Shanghai came to join. Middle school students and college students from Hangzhou, Anqing, Wuhu, Suzhou, Wuxi and other places also came one after another. The total number of protesting students once again exceeded 10,000, and they all moved in.

Sun Yat-sen University.

On the morning when Chang Kaishen announced his resignation, the students first went to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and smashed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs brand, cars, tables and chairs, doors, windows and filing cabinets. Then the students went to the Central Party Committee of the Kuomintang, where a national meeting was being held.

At the Fourth Plenary Session of the Party, students met with the bigwigs of the Kuomintang.

The students clamored for Chang Kaishen to come forward and express his attitude. Chiang Kai-shek sat there calmly, looking like he was watching a good show. He had just been forced to announce his resignation and resign as president of the country and commander-in-chief of the armed forces. This kind of thing is no longer the case.

He took care of it.

Chen Mingshu, commander of the Beijing-Shanghai garrison, and Cai Yuanpei, a big figure in education, stepped forward. The former was responsible for public security and the latter was responsible for persuading students.

Cai Yuanpei didn't say a few words before he and Chen Mingshu were caught by the students. The guards nearby fired in the air as a warning. The gunshots completely angered the students. A female student from the Peking Art Institute named Xue Xun shot Cai Yuanpei's

He gave me a slap on the face, and other students also started to beat him.

After beating Chen Mingshu and Cai Yuanpei, Xue Xun rushed to the party headquarters shouting the slogan "Capture Chang Kaishen alive", and met the Propaganda Minister Zhang Daofan, the Organization Minister Chen Guofu and others. As a result, the Kuomintang bosses were walking in the aisle with the students.

There was a fight, tables, chairs and benches were smashed against each other, and glass and chandeliers were shattered with a crash.

There are different opinions about this farce, and it is difficult to sort out the clues.

However, many people on both sides must have been injured. The Beijing-Shanghai garrison commander was knocked unconscious by the students, Cai Yuanpei was taken hostage by the students, and the student who caused the most violence was also arrested.

When Zhou Hexuan saw this news in Peking, he couldn't help but imagine Chang Kaishen's reaction at that time. Chiang Kai-shek must have been gloating about his misfortune. He asked you to unite and force me to step down. I won't play with you now. You can handle it on your own.

.

"Sir, we're here!" the rickshaw driver reminded.

This was a wasteland between Peking University and Xishan University. Zhou Hexuan took Sun Yongzhen out of the car and walked away. Several students immediately came over to greet them.

Zhou Hexuan smiled and said: "How did the experiment go?"

"Please Mr. Zhou check the results." A leading student said happily.

These are all classmates from the Scientific Research Department of Peking University. Zhou Hexuan used his memory to come up with some gadgets and asked them to help him conduct research and development experiments.

I saw some messy things lying on the open space, including molds, stoves, wood, charcoal, bellows, gunpowder... Bits and pieces, at first glance they looked like the lowest-grade small workshop utensils.

The students quickly got started, and a small iron furnace was erected. The outer wall of the furnace was made of thin iron sheets, and the lining was mainly made of clay mixed with water, with a little refractory material added inside.

The two students cooperated with each other to connect the iron furnace and the bellows, and then started to light the charcoal to make a fire to preheat. When the charcoal at the bottom of the furnace was completely red, the students began to add scrap iron into the furnace, and sprinkled with each layer of iron.

A little limestone is used to increase the fluidity of molten iron and facilitate subsequent slag cleaning work.

In about 15 minutes, the molten iron has been burned and casting can begin.

While the molten iron is being heated, another student has already made a mold. The mold is a mixed sand mold, consisting of 75% sand, 15% clay, 6% sawdust and 4% water, which is evenly stirred and poured into the sand box.

Just dry it over charcoal fire.

I saw the students first preheating the mold, then applying oil inside the mold, and finally pouring molten iron into the sand mold, and a grenade shell was quickly formed.

At the same time, the other two groups of students were making the wooden handle and the ignition device of the grenade.

The spring handle is processed on a homemade lathe. This lathe has an all-wood structure. Even the pedals are made of wood. Only some key parts are made of steel.

After all the procedures are completed, the next step is to charge. Use a paper bucket to put the black powder into the cartridge case, use a wooden stick to tamp the gunpowder, and then use the wooden stick to press out the detonator chamber.

Then install the fire pulling device, connect the fire pulling rope and the fire pulling tube, place the fire pulling device in the handle, pull out the fire pulling rope from the corresponding end, and then bolt on the fire pulling ring. In order to fix the fire pulling device, you need to first

Use paper or cotton plugs around the number, then inject fixative (asphalt or paraffin) and wait for cooling.

The last step is to assemble the wooden handle and cartridge case. If it needs to be stored for a long time, it can be sealed with white wax to prevent moisture.

Back and forth, it only takes 50 minutes to make a grenade. If you have enough manpower, you can make multiple grenades at the same time.

This complete set of grenade making equipment has a well-known name in later generations: Seven Men!

When the enemy attacks, seven people can carry the equipment on their backs and move. Moreover, the materials used are extremely rough and common. If pebbles and charcoal are not available, corn cobs can even be used to burn charcoal instead.

This thing was invented by a certain militiaman in the Republic. It was later printed into a book and vigorously promoted.

As long as a smart person is literate, they can rely on the methods recorded in the pamphlet to use scrap iron, wood and black powder to mass-produce home-made grenades at low cost, which is very suitable for use by guerrillas behind enemy lines.

"Try the power!" Zhou Hexuan said.

A student pulled the match rope, and the tail of the grenade quickly smoked. A few seconds after it was thrown, it exploded with a "boom".

Zhou Hexuan ran over to check the situation and found that the power of this thing was very small. Even the bullet casing was not completely blown to pieces. The iron casing split into four or five pieces and scattered everywhere.

After all, it is cheap but not good, so it is enough to leave it to the guerrillas.

Zhou Hexuan plans to print hundreds of copies of "Seven People's Back" and have people secretly take them to the Northeast. The anti-Japanese volunteers there will probably like it very much. Surrounded by the Japanese army, it is difficult to transport donations and materials.

What the Volunteer Army needs most is this rustic "military technology."
