474 [Non-War Conference]

The International Conference on Abolition of War held in May 1932 was not an official international conference. It was mostly initiated and participated by civil anti-war people.

Don't underestimate these peace enthusiasts. Each one of them has huge influence. Their voice in the public opinion front even exceeds that of their respective governments.

Mrs. Sun, wearing a white waistcoat, said to Zhou Hexuan at the door of the venue: "Mr. Zhou, please go first!"

Zhou Hexuan said quickly: "Ms. Song should invite me first."

Mrs. Sun no longer refused, and walked into the venue with a slight smile on her face.

When the two entered the venue, several people were already inside. Romain Rolland came up to greet him, shook hands with Zhou Hexuan enthusiastically and said, "Zhou, we meet again."

Zhou Hexuan smiled and said: "Let me introduce you. The lady next to me is the wife of Mr. Sun, the founder of the Republic of China. Ms. Song, this is Mr. Romain Rolland, the great European writer."

"Hello, Ms. Song!"

"Hello Mr. Roland!"

After exchanging greetings, Romain Rolland introduced others to them: "Ms. Song, Mr. Zhou, this is the British 'Red Noble' Sir Marley, this is Mr. Gujiuli, a member of the Central Committee of the French Communist Party, and this is the "China

Mr. Yi Luosheng, editor-in-chief of "Forum"."

Those introduced by Romain Rolland are all very famous anti-war activists in Europe.

Sir Marley belongs to the left wing of the British Labor Party, Gujiuli is the editor-in-chief of the French newspaper "Humanité", and Eloson is a famous anti-war reporter in the United States ("China Forum" is an American English magazine).

Everyone quickly became familiar with each other under Romain Rolland's introduction, and talked in low voices about the current international situation.

After about a few minutes, two more people suddenly came in. One was Remarque (a German), the author of "All Quiet on the Western Front", and the other was Barbisset (a Frenchman), the author of "Artillery Fire".

"All Quiet on the Western Front" is now popular all over the world. 6 printing presses and 10 binding machines worked overtime to prepare this novel. It has sold like crazy in Europe, the United States and Asia, setting off an international anti-war trend.

.It was even adapted into a movie by Hollywood in the United States and won the Oscar for Best Picture and Best Director.

In addition, there are American writer Theresa, German writer Louis Lang, future founder of the British Left-wing Reading Alliance Golenz, etc.

Anyway, no one attending the meeting is an ordinary person, and they all have huge social influence. Their professions include writers, poets, booksellers, journalists, artists, scientists, historians, political scientists and social activists.

When Einstein came to the venue, everyone immediately gave him a warm applause. He was the only scientist in the room.

Zhou Hexuan felt that he had arrived at the stronghold of the left. There were more than a dozen members of the Communist Party of England, the French Communist Party and the German Communist Party. Although Lord Marley and Gorenz were members of the British Labor Party, they were also left-wing figures who advocated social reform and peace movements.

Gorenz, in particular, is not well-known at present, but will become very powerful in a few years. The Left-wing Reading Union he founded set off a fanatical red study trend in the UK. By 1938, the number of members was close to 6

Thousands of people. They believe that capitalism is about to end, and that the future development of the world will be dominated by fascism at worst, and socialist at best.

This trend had a great influence on future British politics, and indirectly led to various social reforms and the promulgation of numerous social welfare policies in Britain after World War II.

However, the funniest thing is that although Gorenc actively promotes leftist ideas in the UK and personally yearns for socialism, he is an out-and-out big capitalist. He has more than 10 servants in his big house in London.

There are three gardeners in every country house. He drives out in a custom-made luxury car that can be used to lie down and sleep in. He eats at high-end restaurants at noon every day. He has double-digit female secretaries, many of whom have become lovers.

.

According to Freud's psychological theory, Golenz chose the "superego" in his career and pursued the "id" in his private life.

Contradictory?

It seems that there is no contradiction.

Before the meeting officially started, Gorenz quietly approached Zhou Hexuan and said, "Mr. Zhou, I hope to publish all your works in the UK."

"Of course, we can discuss the specific cooperation in private." Zhou Hexuan naturally would not refuse this big British bookseller.

"That's great!" Gorenz said with a funny laugh.

Zhou Hexuan subconsciously felt that Gorenz's motives for promoting leftist ideas were impure. Now that the British publishing industry is in depression, people are despairing of capitalism, and then they are becoming interested in socialism and communism. As a bookseller, Gorenz may just be

I joined the left camp just to make money.

Not only the UK, but now the entire Europe and the United States are beginning to reflect on the shortcomings of capitalism, thus giving birth to a large number of "communist fans".

At the same time, "appeasement", "non-war doctrine" and "independence" ideas are also spreading. The best-selling books in the United States in the past two years are all anti-war literary works. In the hearts of European and American people, war is exaggerated as an extreme terror

It seems that the entire human race will perish due to war.

This anti-war trend of thought originated from the private sector and has influenced governments of various countries from bottom to top. In order to win votes from civilians, politicians have packaged themselves as pacifists and are essentially promoting appeasement.

To put it bluntly, the first battle was so brutal that everyone was scared and didn't want to fight again.

Throughout the meeting, Zhou Hexuan and Mrs. Sun undoubtedly became the focus because they were Chinese. The Japanese army brazenly invaded Northeast China and then attacked Shanghai. This was a recent war act that attracted worldwide attention.

Romain Rolland was the first to speak on stage, followed by Einstein and Sir Marley, all focusing on the topic of "anti-war".

Mrs. Sun then spoke: "For Europeans, fascism is growing and war is imminent. For Chinese, Japanese fascism has begun to rage and war has actually broken out. The Chinese are resisting Japanese fascism and are human beings.

The forefront of the resistance to fascism. The Chinese nation has been peace-loving since ancient times, but the Japanese fascists broke the beautiful tranquility. Under the iron heel of the Japanese, the Chinese people were displaced and large areas of Manchuria were lost... This is an ugly war and it is shameful.

Aggression. The Chinese people must stand up and resist fascism, just like the European people must stand up and resist fascism. Friends, our pursuits are the same, and we are all striving for a better future for mankind. I hope that the Chinese people will no longer fight alone.

, I hope that anti-war people all over the world can unite. In Northeast China, it has become a hell on earth..."

Mrs. Sun was obviously well prepared and listed many misdeeds of the Kwantung Army. For example, the Japanese army brutally suppressed the people in the Northeast and robbed Chinese people of their private property for no reason; another example was that in order to defend the Soviet Union, the Japanese army captured and enslaved Chinese laborers to build military projects.

Especially the conditions of those workers were extremely miserable. The Kwantung Army used deception, forced recruitment and arrest to force them to do work such as building bridges, building roads, mining, logging, digging caves, repairing trenches, etc. The workers were fed spoiled and moldy coarse grains.

, I am basically hungry every day, and my eating time is also limited. If I exceed the limit, I will be robbed of my job, or even beaten and punished.

Most workers work in single clothes in the middle of winter, using only cement bags and linen bags to keep out the cold. Countless people have died from frostbite. In summer, they suffer from mosquito bites, various epidemics, malaria, and injuries that claim the lives of countless workers.

However, the Japanese Kwantung Army never provided medical treatment. When workers got sick, they had to endure hardships and had to work while sick. If they couldn't survive, they could only be left in the wilderness to die.

When Mrs. Sun finished explaining these situations, there was dead silence in the venue.

Romain Rolland closed his eyes and said painfully: "May God bless the Chinese people, the devil will go to hell sooner or later."
