Guangxiao Temple is prosperous and has an endless stream of tourists. There is one attraction that you must visit when you arrive at Guangxiao Temple, and that is Guangxiao Bodhi, one of the eight scenic spots in Guangcheng.
There is a bodhi tree planted in Guangxiao Temple, which was transplanted for the Tripitaka of Tianzhu's profound wisdom medicine. It is the first bodhi tree transplanted in China's historical records.
The Wisdom Medicine Tripitaka once predicted: One hundred and seventy years from now, there will be a physical Bodhisattva who will perform the Superior Vehicle Dharma under this tree and save countless people. One hundred and seventy-four years later, the Sixth Patriarch Hui Neng indeed received the precepts and preached the Dharma under this tree.
It is consistent with what the wisdom medicine Tripitaka said.
It was only when Qin Yu and others came to the Bodhi tree that they found that people were already crowded under the Bodhi tree, crowded into a circle. However, unlike the Chinese who watched the excitement, this group of people just stared silently into the circle without making a sound.
talk.
"Go over and have a look."
Mo Yongxing was the one who loved to join in the fun. He was the first to rush into the crowd. Taking advantage of his body, he squeezed out a way and stood at the front of the circle, ignoring the angry looks from the people around him.
With Mo Yongxing opening the way, it was much easier for Qin Yu and the others. They also walked to the front of the crowd. They looked into the circle and discovered that there were actually two elderly monks in the circle.
Two old monks sat opposite each other, with a futon placed underneath each. Both of them were wearing cassocks. People who are familiar with Buddhism know that only the abbot of a temple or a highly respected mage is qualified to wear cassocks.
The identity and background of this old monk must not be simple.
"Qin Yu, what are these two monks doing? They are sitting here without moving for a long time." Mo Yongxing looked at the two old monks for a while and found that the two old monks were motionless. In addition, the crowd was also holding their breath, and they couldn't help but feel bored.
Qin Yu asked.
"They should be meditating." Qin Yu was not sure. It seemed that the two of them were meditating, but Buddhist meditation is very particular. They usually choose to light up a cigarette in a quiet meditation room.
Zen fragrance, under the bodhi tree there are people coming and going, it is inevitably noisy.
"The two masters are going to practice Ji Feng Bian Zen. The one on the left is Master Zhiren from Guangxiao Temple, and the one on the right is Master Jian Kong from Nanhua Temple. The two masters have to do Ji Feng Bian Zen under the bodhi tree every day.
It's been going on for several days." A middle-aged man next to him explained in a low voice after hearing the conversation between Qin Yu and Mo Yongxing.
"Ji Feng debates Zen, what is the debate about? Aren't monks particular about having no desires or pursuits, and all four elements are in vain? Why are we still debating?" Mo Yongxing continued to ask.
"Ji Feng Zen Buddhism is when the debaters use some Ji Feng to prove the depth of each other's Zen practice." This time it was Qin Yu who explained to Mo Yongxing.
However, he found that the effect was not great. Not only was Mo Yongxing still confused, but even his cousins Zhang Hua and Tong Min looked at him with puzzled faces. He had to clear his mind and explain to them in detail.
The original meaning of "Jifeng" is the machine pressure and sharp arrow on the bow. In Zen Buddhism, it is cited as "no trace can be found", which contains profound Buddhist principles. It means that Zen masters and others often express profound meanings to "Ji" without any trace, and even
Use illogical words to express one's own state or test the other party.
The Sixth Patriarch Hui Neng’s theory of wind flags is a movement. The movement has several characteristics. First, it is quick and rapid, and does not require thinking. Second, it is as sharp as an arrow and as straight as an arrow. The Sixth Patriarch said: “It is not the wind that moves, but also the wind.
It's not the flags that move, but the hearts of benevolent people that move." It points directly to people's hearts and is as shocking as a rock.
"In fact, it is not just Zen masters who can practice Ji Feng. Ancient literati also like to practice Zen Dou Ji Feng. In the Dream of Red Mansions, Shuangyu often practices Zen Dou Ji Feng. The first half of Chapter 22 talks about "Tingqu Wen Baoyu"
"The Machine for Enlightenment of Zen" contains a dialogue about Ji Feng's enlightenment of Zen."
"My little brother is so young, I didn't expect to know so much. Today's young people follow some foreign idol dramas all day long, and they don't understand some of our traditional culture."
The middle-aged man raised his thumb after hearing Qin Yu's words, obviously praising Qin Yu, but his words made Mo Yongxing and Zhang Hua feel embarrassed. It seemed that they were the kind of young people who didn't know much about traditional culture.
"Our Sixth Patriarch is a famous master of Ji Feng debate. The "Thirty-six Countermeasures" passed down by him are the main countermeasures of Nanchan Ji Feng. Since my little brother knows Ji Feng, he must have listened to Yi Xue Sui
Allusion."
"Well, I have read it in a book. It was about a confrontation between the Sixth Patriarch Huineng and one of his five disciples, Master Xuanjue."
Qin Yu once read about the allusion of sleeping all night in Yongjia local chronicles. Master Xuanjue was already a Taoist monk before he became a disciple of the Sixth Patriarch. He studied Buddhism and Zen in Xianyan Mountain in Ruian County.
One day when Xuanjue was reading the "Vimalakirti Sutra", he suddenly felt that the inner and outer worlds were clear. The realm described in the sutra was no different from his own inner world and his own nature. So Master Xuanjue decided to go to the mountain.
Travel abroad, study the world, and find people to confirm.
It was by fate that Xuanjue met Xuance, a disciple of the Sixth Patriarch. The two hit it off and the conversation became very interesting, so they decided to go to visit the Sixth Patriarch together.
When they arrived at the temple of the Sixth Patriarch, the Sixth Patriarch was sitting on a futon. Xuanjue walked up to the Sixth Patriarch without waiting for Xuance's introduction. He shook the tin staff with a clanking sound, turned it three times around the six groups, and then held it ten feet high.
He stood there, neither worshiping nor making any sound.
The Sixth Patriarch glanced at him and said slowly: "As a monk, you should possess three thousand dignities and eighty thousand meticulous conduct. May I ask where you come from to be so arrogant and rude?"
Xuanjue didn't care and said: "Escape from life and death is the biggest thing in life. Moreover, various causes and conditions change rapidly and impermanently. Other things are not important to me. Therefore, I can't care about dignity."
It’s not dignified, it’s not etiquette anymore.”
The Sixth Patriarch asked again: "In that case, why don't you understand the truth of neither birth nor death, neither speed nor slowness."
Xuanjue replied: "According to my experience, everything in the world does not have life and death, existence or non-existence. Therefore, understanding or not does not exist, let alone speed and slowness."
After hearing this, the Sixth Patriarch said happily: "That's it, you have realized the true meaning of Zen."
Hearing the Sixth Patriarch's praise, the monks on both sides were very surprised. The Sixth Group rarely praised others, so the wandering monk in front of them was very unusual.
After receiving the approval of the Sixth Patriarch, Xuanjue arranged his cassock according to the etiquette and rules of Zen worshiping mountains, and respectfully kowtowed three times to the Sixth Patriarch.
Xuanjue was first arrogant and then respectful, which was beyond everyone's expectations, but what the monks didn't expect was that after performing the rituals, Xuanjue stood up to say goodbye and was about to go down the mountain to leave.
Group Six asked: "You are leaving now, aren't you going too soon?"
Unexpectedly, Xuanjue suddenly started a fight with his teacher.
"It is not automatic, so how can the body have speed?" There is no movement in the first place, so there is no pleasure or displeasure.
The Sixth Patriarch remained calm and said: "You said that it is inherently non-moving, so who knows about non-moving?"
"The benevolent make distinctions by themselves," Xuanjue replied.
This was an exchange of ideas. The Sixth Patriarch smiled and said, "You have no intention of living."
The words of the Sixth Patriarch seemed to be affirmative of Xuan, but in fact there was a hidden secret in them. Since nothing is born in the heart, how could it be obtained.
Xuanjue realized the subtlety in the Sixth Patriarch's words, and added another sentence: "How could there be any intention to be without life?"
The Sixth Patriarch: "Who should tell the difference if I don't intend to?"
Xuanjue: "Distinguishing is not intentional."
The sharp exchange between the two people made the surrounding monks confused. Only Xuan Ce was thinking for a while. The Sixth Patriarch was very happy to see that Xuan Jue had seen and understood thoroughly without leaving any trace, and took him to stay in the Zen room for the night. One night, master and disciple practiced Zen together.
The next day, Xuanjue said goodbye to the Sixth Patriarch and left the temple. Later, Xuanjue sang a song of enlightenment in the prosperous age and was named Master Wuxiang. Later generations called him and the Sixth Patriarch's night talk about Zen. .
The witty dialogues of Zen Buddhism cannot be understood by those who do not have a certain knowledge of Buddhism. In particular, this kind of lightning-fast dialogue that cannot be thought through is a test of understanding and wit.
"I heard it in a daze, the monk just likes to play riddles."
Qin Yu whispered the allusion of One Night to several people. After listening to Qin Yu's words, the confusion on the faces of Mo Yongxing and the other three people was not less, but more.
"Buddhism pays attention to the Buddha's salvation of predestined people and the pursuit of wisdom. This is probably what they are talking about." Tong Min was thoughtful.
"Not bad, little brother. You also know where the Sixth Patriarch's Ji Feng is in the allusion. Not bad, not bad." The middle-aged man did not expect that Qin Yu was so familiar with this allusion. He even remembered the Ji Feng of the Sixth Patriarch and Master Xuanjue. beyond his expectation.
"These are all summed up by predecessors. I just copied them." Qin Yu answered modestly.
"What's wrong with just copying the book? If you ask any young people on the street, they probably don't even know the name of the allusion of "One Night's Sleep".
"If I have time to read this, I might as well read Playboy." Mo Yongxing curled her lips and muttered softly.
"Amitabha!"
"Amitabha!"
Just as Mo Yongxing finished purring, the two masters in the circle opened their eyes at the same time. Master Jiankong on the right put his hands together and asked slowly:
"Master Bodhidharma has been facing the wall for nine years. May I ask where Bodhidharma's back is facing the wall?"
PS: I got home at eight o'clock and started coding. I'm really tired of coding this chapter. I've always wanted to write something with a Zen feel. Unfortunately, Jiu Deng's pen is not strong enough. I revised it several times and could only get to this point. Regarding one night's sleep, if you are interested You can go and take a look. The collection has finally exceeded 1,000. Fellow Taoists are very helpful. Can you give Jiu Deng a few more recommendation votes to encourage me? (To be continued)
