1509 Strategic significance

As the commander, Liu Huaidong is very aware of the strategic significance of the Equator Base. Although the base's primary task is to protect the orbital elevators, the base is much more than just protecting the elevators.

To put it more bluntly, the Equator Base is the tentacles through which the Northern Capital controls Kalidan. To put it more plainly, this base is equivalent to the Northern Capital stamping a stamp on the map of Kalidan, telling other countries that this place is already occupied.

Everyone calmed down a bit, and those who wanted to reach out retracted their claws.

The military significance of the Equator base is not very great. Although there is an airport and aircraft here, and the combat radius of the aviation force can cover the entire Kalidan Island, it is only coverage, not effective control, so the symbolic significance of the base far exceeds its military significance.

What about aliens?

Liu Huaidong thought about it carefully, and it seemed that the aliens had no intention of doing anything to the orbital elevator from the beginning!

The effective range of the thin light is very long. Even if it is weakened by the atmosphere, it is still no problem to shoot a distance of 200 to 300 kilometers. If the aliens' goal is to destroy the orbital elevator, they will not need to expend this effort at all and directly deploy it on Buha Island.

A group of light bugs can cut the cable into ten or eight sections by simply scanning it at the orbital elevator.

The cable is the absolute core of the orbital elevator. This thing is woven from top to bottom. Repairing it is not only technically difficult to achieve, but even if it is really connected, the strength will have to be reduced several levels. Even if it is barely usable, the space must be controlled.

The overall quality of the sky train, otherwise the cable may be broken after the train is put on the cable.

But the aliens don't want to destroy the cable, and they rush to attack the equatorial base. What is their purpose? Is their purpose to snatch the orbital elevator?

Thinking of this, Liu Huaidong himself laughed. Even if the aliens really planned to do this, he would not be able to hand over the orbital elevator to the aliens intact! If the critical moment came, he would definitely have to destroy the orbital elevator.

Well, to change the way of thinking, maybe the aliens’ ideas are not that complicated. Do they want to occupy the entire Kalidan, so the equatorial base is particularly unpleasant to look at?

This possibility is not impossible. Although aliens have never come to the forefront, their desire for territory is no less than that of Lao Maozi. Africa, South America, Australia, Southern Europe... so many places have been occupied by aliens.

Okay, do you need a reason to occupy another Caledan?

The northern capital understands the strategic role of Kalidan, and the aliens must also understand it. Maybe the aliens are planning to completely control Kalidan, and then use Kalidan as a springboard to send their troops northward. By then, the entire southeastern coast will

They have to face the alien troops. In that case, the strategic situation facing Beidu will not be as easy as it is now.

The more Liu Huaidong thought about it, the more his balls ached. The possibility of Beidu abandoning the Equator base was very slim. He and the soldiers would probably stay here, even if there was only one left.

While he was thinking about it, a group of servants suddenly appeared on the screen returned by the battlefield monitoring system. They followed the insect swarm to the shore, hid behind the insect swarm and fired cold shots at the soldiers on the wall.

The silken light swept across the protective wall. The soldiers on the wall were defenseless. In an instant, a large number fell down. The wall was stained red with blood. The insect swarm that had been suppressed by the defenders immediately approached the protective wall. The soldiers on the wall fired with all their strength, but they still blocked it.

The leader of the force that cannot stop the insect swarm from attacking.

The originally good situation was reversed in an instant.

Liu Huaidong stood up suddenly, with a livid face and growled: "Fire, give me a fucking blast!"

The artillery had already measured the firing data, and had been waiting for a long time with the gun tubes raised. Now the order finally came. The commander gave the order, eighteen self-propelled howitzers; twenty-seven wheeled assault guns; and dispersedly arranged

More than 70 self-propelled mortars and more than 100 artillery pieces of various types opened fire at the same time, and shells rained down on the coast.

The artillery roared inside and outside the base, the landing line was filled with smoke, and the open space from the coast to the protective wall was filled with deafening explosions. Whether it was giant insects or insect-men, even the servants were bombarding the defenders regardless of losses.

There were heavy casualties.

The military's firepower coverage is no joke. It is a firepower strike that is as famous as American air strikes. If one wave fails, another wave will come, and sooner or later, you will be piled with artillery shells to death.

A group of servants suddenly flew out of the water, jumped high into the sky, and fired in the direction of the cannonballs. However, the counterattacks of the servants had no effect at all. The cannonballs continued to fall, crushing the insect swarm.

Just kidding, the standards of the equatorial base are so high, how can artillery positions be placed on the ground?

The distance between the position and the coast is only five kilometers. All artillery participating in the battle are hidden underground and shoot through the shooting holes above the bunker at a high angle. Unless the servants fly above the base, they cannot even see the artillery trucks, let alone counterattack.

Already.

But can the base allow the servants to approach at will? Obviously not. There are machine guns and anti-aircraft missiles on the top and bottom of the protective wall. Eighteen hundred servants are simply not enough to fill the gap. If eight thousand of them come at once... Well,

Then Liu Huaidong would definitely evacuate everyone underground, and then drop a nuclear bomb directly on top of the base!

The counterattack came and went quickly. The servants in the air didn't even hit a few rays of light before the Qionghe's laser was reduced to rubbish, leaving no chance to even leave a whole corpse.

The bombardment ended not too slowly, but it only took a few rounds to catch your breath. The coastline, which was originally full of insects, could no longer see a living creature that could move. They were all dead.

Even those who were hiding in the water and did not reach the shore were killed and knocked unconscious by the cannonballs that fell into the water, and a large number of them floated to the surface.

The soldiers on the parapet quietly poked their heads out and couldn't help but sigh when they saw such a scene.

If we had fought like this from the beginning, those comrades who died might not have died.

Of course, the soldiers all know that the artillery shells stored in the base are limited, and the port is currently blocked by alien submarines, which is equivalent to cutting off the connection between the base and the country. The supplies will not be replenished for a while, and the servants have not appeared.

There is really no need to fire at that time.

The only thing to blame is that the servant soldiers appeared too quickly and too suddenly... There are no undead people in a war, and the soldiers have long been used to it after fighting against bugs for so many years.

The swarms of insects that landed were wiped out by artillery fire, but the soldiers on the wall did not dare to relax at all. Everyone stared at the sea with vigilance, for fear that the swarms of insects would rush out again.

Except for the floating insect corpses, there was no movement on the water. He Xiangdong couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. It seemed that this round of attack was over.

The battle is over, but He Xiangdong's troubles go far beyond the battle. They include arranging security, cleaning the battlefield, treating the wounded, collecting the bodies, replenishing ammunition... There are a lot of things waiting to be done. When He Xiangdong thinks of these, his mind goes crazy.

It became two big ones and gave me a terrible headache.
