Chapter 129 Admiration

When Zhang Yue and Liu Zuo returned to Zhaishe together.

But seeing Xiang Qi and Huang Haoyi standing outside the door, Zhang Yue and the others couldn't help but be curious: "May I ask what's going on?"

Huang Haoyi pointed to the studio, and the two of them looked inside. Cheng Yizheng was holding a book, sitting on the bed with his knees facing the wall, and he was mumbling words over and over again: "Nothing good, no disgusting"

body...' words.

Zhang Yue looked on, dumbfounded, and thought to himself, It's over, it's over, he has led an unprecedented great master of Neo-Confucianism astray.

Zhang Yue suddenly felt infinite regret in his heart. He had nothing to do and was pretending to be cool. Although he did not agree with the views of Neo-Confucianism, without Neo-Confucianism, the history of Chinese thought would have lost one of its most colorful volumes.

In order to show off, if I kill Cheng Yi's point of view, then I will become a sinner.

Zhang Yue didn't know what to do at this moment.

“Sanlang, what exactly did you say to Brother Chizheng?”

Zhang Yuedao: "It's just a verse."

Liu Zuodao: "Oh? Sanlang is proficient in Buddhism?"

Buddhist verses are composed of four sentences.

All conditioned phenomena are like the shadows of a dream, like dew or electricity, and should be viewed as such. This is a verse from the Diamond Sutra.

There is also a verse: "The Bodhi tree has no tree, and the mirror is not a stand. There is nothing in the beginning, so how can it cause dust." This is also a verse.

Buddhist verses generally consist of four sentences. These four sentences of "no good and no disgust" are also known as the four secrets of mind learning. Wang Yangming called it the purpose of learning in his life, and it has been used for hundreds of years.

Many people were thinking about this, but Cheng Yi couldn't figure it out in a moment.

Liu Zuo listened to Zhang Yue repeat the "Four Sentences from the Heart", and the other party also looked at a loss.

Liu Zuodao: "Brother Cheng has always been like this, so let's not disturb him."

Zhang Yue said: "That's all we can do. Let's go to the restaurant for lunch first."

 “That’s okay! I’m also hungry.”

The four of them immediately left together. Zhang Yue looked at Cheng Yi inside the house and said, "Brother Chizheng, we are going to eat!"

Cheng Yi didn’t react at all and didn’t listen to Zhang Yue’s words.

Everyone had no choice but to go to eat first.

Along the way, Liu Zuo and Zhang Yue said: "But on the day of the third and eighth class exams, the public kitchen will set up a special meal, cooking cakes in spring and autumn, cold cooking in summer, and steamed buns in winter. This steamed bun is the most famous, and we Tai students can't bear to part with it.

Eat it and give it to someone you know."

At this moment, Zhang Yue couldn't help but think of the Taixue steamed buns that Cai Que invited him to eat. They were really delicious.

Zhang Yue couldn't help but ask: "What about weekdays?"

Liu Zuo sighed and said to Qi: "We Tai students have a saying, 'There is Fa Toutuo Temple, but there is no official Yushitai.' There is Fa Toutuo Temple. It means that we usually practice hard like Toutuo, so we have to live in poverty."

But Kunliang is self-promising. We universities all laugh at ourselves, using the shadow as our wife and the chair as our concubine."

Everyone laughed loudly when he said this.

Zhang Yue laughed secretly in his heart, isn’t it true that the left hand is the right hand?

“As for the ‘Unofficial Yushitai’, I don’t need to say more.”

I heard that in recent years, the students of the Imperial College were ‘very fond of commenting on current affairs, even to the extent that ministers did not dare to speak out, and they did not dare to criticize the censor’, so it was called the ‘Unofficial Censor Platform’.

Everyone went to the public kitchen immediately. Today was not a test day, so the food was really mediocre.

Taixue originally had only 200 people, but recently it has expanded to more than 700 people, so the funds are not enough. On weekdays, the food money spent on students is only 300 yuan a month, which averages 10 yuan a day.

Therefore, Hu Yuan and other Taixue lecturers used their own salaries to provide extra meals to students on the Wednesday and August test days.

Different from separate meals in prefectures and counties, Taixue has shared meals, with one table for each room, and a wooden bucket on the table. There is about two liters of rice in it, which is less than five hens of rice per person, and there are also some pickles.

As for each person, one clay pot contains rice soup, and the rest is five-pack rice. But there is one dish that is the same as those in prefectures and counties, and that is steamed eggplant.

A few strips of steamed eggplant were cut in half, and the white flesh was poured with fermented sauce. It tasted really good.

But when it comes to eating eggplant, we have to talk about Zhu Xi.

When Zhu Xi was lecturing in Wuyi Mountain, he and his students usually ate corn rice and eggplant. One day, a man named Hu Hong came all the way to visit Zhu Xi, and Zhu Xi fed him eggplant and corn rice.

Hu Hong was so angry that he would say to everyone he met, "This is unkind. A chicken is worth wine, and there is no shortage in the mountains."

Even if there is nothing in the mountains, you still entertain me with a chicken and wine. I have never seen such an unkind person like you.

Then after Hu Hong became an official, he impeached Zhu Xi as the chief culprit of hypocrisy!

Such a poor life in Taixue reminded Zhang Yue of "eating second- and third-class food and being a first- and second-class person" in the prefectural and county schools.

But looking at the purple eggplant, Zhang Yue couldn't help but laugh at himself: "Today I will eat purple eggplants, and tomorrow I will wear purple clothes!"

 Everyone laughed after hearing this.

After everyone had eaten, Liu Zuo put the leftovers in clay pots, covered them with bowls, and took them back to his house.

But seeing Cheng Yi still covering his head in the studio, sitting cross-legged on the couch facing the wall, thinking hard. Liu Zuo took the rice and said, "Take a bite with integrity!"

But Cheng Yi shook his head.

Liu Zuo said helplessly to Zhang Yue: "Sanlang, you'd better give him some advice!"

Zhang Yue was about to step forward, but hesitated to speak. Thinking of the consequences of leading Cheng Yi astray just now, would he be less interested in Neo-Confucianism in the future?

There were three schools of Confucianism in the Southern Song Dynasty, namely Zhu Xi’s Neo-Confucianism, Lu Jiuyuan’s Xinxue, and Lu Zuqian’s Merit School, which were three pillars.

And Neo-Confucianism was established as an official school by the Ming Dynasty, which was the Ming Dynasty's governing ideology.

A doctrine is adapted to an era.

What makes Zhang Yue better than Cheng Yi is his vision and the knowledge and insights accumulated over a thousand years.

Cheng Yi did not know Wang Yangming, had not read the biography, and did not understand Western philosophy or modern thought. This is not something that a person can transcend no matter how smart he is or how hard he works to understand. This is the difference in vision.

Zhang Yue sat next to Cheng Yi and asked, "Brother Cheng, have you realized anything?"

Cheng Yi looked at Zhang Yue with bloodshot eyes and said: "Sanlang, I haven't understood it even after thinking about it for a whole day. There is no good and no disgusting body. This is Wu. If the mind and body are neither good nor evil, then the mind, knowledge, and things

There is neither good nor evil, so why is it called existence? Since it is one and nothing, it must be three existences, and it should be four nothings. Since it is three existences, it must be four existences, and it cannot be one nothingness.”

Zhang Yue smiled when he heard this and asked other questions. I definitely don’t understand. When you ask this, I will know because there are ready-made answers in the book that you can copy.

Zhang Yue immediately laughed and said, "I had expected that Brother Chizheng would ask this question!"

 …

When Cheng Yi heard Zhang Yue's words, he couldn't help but stand in awe, and the people on the side also pricked up their ears.

Zhang Yue is in such a great state, he has already anticipated everything.

Zhang Yuedao: "Actually, one nothingness and three existences are the origin, and there is nothing wrong in looking at it from anywhere. However, the theory of four existences and four nothings each holds on to one side, and it would be wrong to exhaust all the references."

"Mr. An Ding once said, "What is the meaning of Ming Ti Da Yong? Ming Ti is the Ming Mind, and the heart is neither good nor evil, that is nothingness. Da Yong means intention, knowledge, and effort, that is existence."

“The four things are to find out the usefulness and then work from the practical things to the essence. The four things are not to work hard from the heart and from the essence to the essence.”

"What's the difference? One moment it's from the application to the main body, and the other time it's from the main body to the main body, we're all confused." Liu Zuo couldn't help but say.

"There are two categories of people in this world, one with sharp roots and the other with blunt roots. According to the theory of the Four Nothings, people who are specially connected to the upper roots may not be able to understand from the essence. Even Yanzi may not be able to do it. How can we expect ordinary people to do so?

.On the contrary, the theory of the Four Beings, from Da to Noumenon, can guide people with blunt faculties."

“The disease of the theory of the Four Nothings is that it is untrue, and the disease of the theory of the Four Beings is not exhausted in the clear body.”

Xiang Qi said on the side: "What Sanlang said makes it somewhat clear to me. It's similar to 'Learning without thinking will lead to ignorance; thinking without learning will lead to peril'."

Liu Zuodao: "Learning is to apply it, to know the world, and thinking is to understand the body and know oneself. As Laozi said, it is easy to know others, but it is difficult to know oneself!"

Cheng Yi saw Zhang Yue and was noncommittal. Although he knew that Liu Zuo and Xiang Qi were wrong, it still gave him a feeling of enlightenment.

Cheng Yi said: "Sanlang, I understand. Before the body is illuminated, the way to find the body is to follow the method. This is to study things to gain knowledge. The order of this is to read these four sentences upside down. If the body is already illuminated,

Then proceeding from the clear style to the practical use, this is the correct reading of the four sentences."

Zhang Yue couldn't help but be shocked after hearing this. Yes, that's the truth.

Unexpectedly, I couldn't understand the truth even after reading the four sentences and thinking about it for a long time. Cheng Yijing understood it after just a few words.

Cheng Yi seemed to be talking to himself: "Yes, the fourth sentence is about investigating things, the third sentence is about Zhizhi, the second sentence is about sincerity, the second sentence about meaning, and finally the first sentence is about Zhengxin."

"This is what is said in the university, 'If you want to correct your mind, you must first be honest with your intention. If you want to be honest with your intention, you must first know the truth. To know things, you must study things." This is the way of the Four Beings. However, what Brother Zhang said,

In addition to the four beings, there is also the four nothings. First, correct your mind, then be sincere in your intentions, then develop your knowledge, and finally understand your things. This is really difficult. This is the way to get started in Buddhism. You must first understand your nature and see your nature.

How many people can do it?"

“How could I, Cheng Yi, dare to compete with Yan Zi? Therefore, what I have learned in my life is still above the ‘Four Beings’. However, without Sanlang’s advice, I might not have realized this. Sanlang, you are really my teacher of the Four Sentences!”

Zhang Yue's face turned red at this moment, and now it was his turn not to understand.

But there is no other way, I have to pretend to be him even with tears in my eyes.

Zhang Yue said extremely calmly: "Of course, Brother Cheng, this is the end of what I can help you with."

Zhang Yue felt relieved at the moment. From this sentence, he learned that Cheng Yi's thoughts had not been changed by him, but had been inspired by him.

On the contrary, it made his knowledge deeper, which is the improvement of his horizons.

Cheng Yi said: "No, Cheng will succeed in what he has learned in the future. He should thank Sanlang for his advice today. Sanlang is the most knowledgeable person Cheng has ever seen, except for Mr. Lian Anding and the two gentlemen. I always ask for help from Sanlang!"

"Don't dare!" Zhang Yue said quickly, "On matters of learning, you and I can sit down and discuss each other. We are not interested in asking for help from each other."

Cheng Yi looked at Liu Zuo on his left and right and said, "Well, since Sanlang said so, Cheng will definitely have more discussions with Sanlang in the future."

Hearing this, Zhang Yue breathed a sigh of relief.

As for the people around him, since Cheng Yi entered the Imperial College, he has not been convinced by anyone, but now he admires Zhang Yue. It seems that Zhang Sanlang is a very capable person!
