Chapter 44: The Guide

The information conveyed by these murals is so huge that their value is not just a work of art, but a reappearance of a mysterious journey from the Western Regions to Tianzhu at that time.

The six murals are completely coherent, with many detailed patterns painted in the middle, describing what they saw and heard when traveling through various countries at that time, including many bloody and brutal scenes, as well as mysterious scenes from legends.

But now most of these small countries in the Western Region have been submerged in the yellow sand.

Those patterns also contain a lot of tiny writing, just like descriptive text, and the content should be very important.

But the characters are very strange, and the frame structure is twisted and difficult to distinguish.

When viewed as a whole, the whole picture is like a series of historical poems that can never be finished. There are thousands of stories hidden in it, and there are new discoveries every time you look at it.

Yang Wumao was stunned by the cruel scene in this picture. His face was ashen and he stood there with his mouth wide open, speechless.

Both Fat Wei and Gui Dao used flashlights to carefully look at the characters on the mural. The characters that appeared the most in the mural were Xuanzang and the monkey man.

The monkey man looked very humble in the later stage, and the quilt buttons on his cassock were shining and eye-catching.

"This is the right thing!" Fat Wei pointed at the one on the mural who changed the quilt and said,

"This monkey only had this thing after it came out of Gaochang Kingdom.

It's exactly the same as the one in your hand.

It seems that it is exactly what we thought. It was this monkey who made the contract with the King of Gaochang at that time!

It is estimated that he was the one who worshiped King Gaochang at that time.

Thanks to tnd, Fatty’s eyes have been opened today!

This history is really more exciting than the novel. After a long time of fussing, Princess Gaoyang’s stomach was really made big by the monkey!

But when I think about it, it’s really crazy. According to the legend, Sun Wukong is so powerful and can change in 72 ways. Even the Jade Emperor could beat him to the ground. How could he just be beheaded in the middle of a busy market?

Where is it?

This is too cowardly!" After Fat Wei finished speaking, he looked at the monkey man in the painting carefully and shook his head in confusion.

"Probably out of guilt, or maybe he was already tired at the time...",

Chen Zhi took out the sparkling duvet button from his arms and placed it on the mural for comparison.

As expected, they are exactly the same, with the same pattern and image, and even the size.

"This is the power of Buddhism!" Chen Zhi said softly,

"We always measure power by strength, but Buddhist power is a different concept!

Tolerance, patience, no excuses, and bear your own guilt!

This is a very majestic power, what it conquers is not the body, but the soul!"

"Clan leader!",

Ghost Sword standing in front suddenly knocked on the stone wall with his flashlight, pointed at the old man in white on the mural and said,

"This image looks a bit like him!"

"Um!",

In fact, Chen Zhi has noticed this detail a long time ago. In fact, this is also the most important detail.

When the oil paint on the surface was removed, the place where Guanyin Bodhisattva originally stood turned into an old man in white.

This is probably the reason why this mural cannot be published, and it is also something that Chen Zhi has always been really suspicious of.

What is the real reason why Xuanzang risked his life to travel to the West to learn Buddhist scriptures more than 1,300 years ago?"

According to historical records, Xuanzang was indeed a man with unlimited enthusiasm for Buddhism.

He became famous at a young age. During his study tours in China, he discovered that many scriptures were poorly translated and he was unable to understand their true meaning. Even the annotations of some scriptures were contradictory.

When Xuanzang was depressed and confused, an old monk from Tianzhu told him that there was a Nalanda Temple in distant Tianzhu, where eminent monks gathered and there were many scriptures. He suggested that Xuanzang travel west to India and obtain Buddhist teachings and return.

worldly people.

Therefore, the 27-year-old Xuanzang made an astonishing decision. Regardless of the opposition of the court at the time, he smuggled himself to India in the west to obtain the scriptures and return.

This period of history has been written down in various Buddhist records. From ancient times to the present, generations of Buddhists seem to have no doubt when telling this period of history.

But this period of history actually cannot withstand scrutiny.

An old monk from Tianzhu gave Xuanzang some advice and asked him to go to Tianzhu to obtain Buddhist scriptures.

It sounds so simple, but in fact, how can it be that easy?

You must know how far it was to go from China to India at that time. This is not easy to say casually.

If Xuanzang’s journey to India was a universal feat, then wouldn’t the eminent monks who came all the way from India be even more respectable? How could they not leave their names?

Chen Zhi read through a lot of ancient historical materials and found that there were no records from Indian monks during the Tang Dynasty.

Even though there were some monks who claimed to be eminent monks from Tianzhu, most of them were actually people from the Western Regions pretending to be them, and they had already been discovered at that time.

Therefore, the identity of this old monk from Tianzhu who guided Xuanzang on his journey to the West is highly questionable, or perhaps this person does not exist at all.

Also, in the Tang Dynasty at that time, state control was very strict. Anyone who went abroad privately would be arrested for collaborating with the enemy, and could even be shot directly by soldiers guarding the border.

The charge of harboring collaborators is something that no border official can bear.

Even though Xuanzang has a sincere heart to fearlessly seek scriptures, he is just an ordinary human being and does not have the ability to fly to the sky and escape from the earth. How did he pass these checkpoints and enter the Western Regions all the way?

According to records in the Records of the Western Regions of the Tang Dynasty, the reason why Xuanzang passed the border smoothly was because the officials guarding the borders of the Tang Dynasty were all devout Buddhists.

They showed great respect to Xuanzang and then allowed him to pass due to personal reasons.

But in fact, Buddhism had not fully flourished in the Tang Dynasty at that time. Local mythology was still deeply rooted, and not so many court officials believed in Buddhism.

Would these high-ranking feudal officials really use their wealth, wealth, and lives as collateral to let Xuanzang out of seclusion for selfish reasons?

It does sound wonderful, but this idea is too naive.

So the reality at that time was that there must be someone hiding in the dark, like Guanyin Bodhisattva, guiding Xuanzang.

This guide may not have shown up, or Xuanzang may not have seen his true face until his death.

But this guide, just like the Guanyin Bodhisattva in the painting, gave Xuanzang the courage to travel to the west, pointed out the way for him, and predicted his fate.

Later, perhaps because of this inescapable fate, this monkey man became another westward traveler.

He accompanied Xuanzang on his journey to the west, went through many hardships, and finally entered Nalanda to obtain the true scripture.

From then on, Buddhism from thousands of miles away was introduced to the Tang Dynasty, took root and sprouted in the land of China, and became deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, until it continues to this day...
