Chapter 005: On the Battlefield

That afternoon.

A military plane transported all the new recruits organized into the 102nd Regiment to London.

Colonel Phillips and Agent Carter were also among them, and the pilot was Howard Stark.

at dusk.

They took military trucks from London to the frontline camps where the fighting was fierce.

Boom boom!

The sound of artillery fire kept coming from a distance.

The camp was filled with the smell of blood and medicine.

After getting out of the car, through the dim lights of a dozen or so lights, Gary saw many injured soldiers with missing limbs and short legs being carried into a makeshift medical room.

When many recruits saw this tragic scene, they couldn't help but ran to the side and vomited.

It was also the first time for Gary to see such a bloody scene. He endured nausea and followed Colonel Phillips and Agent Carter.

"Lieutenant Colonel Bright, it looks like the situation is very bad." Arriving at the camp headquarters, Gary and others gathered outside, while Colonel Phillips and Agent Carter entered the tent, but after a while they and a lieutenant colonel ranked

The officer came out.

"Those damn bastards are so crazy. They don't care about the lives of the soldiers at all. Our defense line has been shortening." Lieutenant Colonel Bright said, his eyes glanced at Gary and other recruits, he frowned and said:

"Chief Phillips, is there no one in the rear? They have sent a group of new soldiers who have never seen blood. Do those senators who only know how to talk and talk want us to surrender?"

Colonel Phillips shook his head, "The veterans are all new recruits. They can use it after they see the blood. In addition, Senator Brad is actively mobilizing to join the army in the rear."

"It seems that there is really no one in the rear." Lieutenant Colonel Bright sighed. In fact, he also knew how fierce the battle situation was now. Even those retired veterans were re-sent to the battlefield.

Colonel Pripps patted Bright on the shoulder, "Give them some time."

"That's all we can do. I hope God will bless a few more of them to survive!"

In the evening, each soldier was given a combat uniform and steel helmet, and the combat commander sent someone to inform them that they would go to the front line for reinforcements tomorrow and have a good rest tonight.

"Hey, Hotch, we're going to fight those bastards tomorrow, what are you thinking about?"

"What else can you think about? Of course, you are thinking about how to drive those bastards back to their hometown!"

Several soldiers in the dormitory laughed and talked loudly. Only in this way could they dispel the tension and fear in their hearts.

Gary lay on the bed, took the time to return to Luo Hua, ate some food, closed the door, and hurriedly returned to Gary.

Being in the frontline military camp, he didn't dare to be careless in the slightest.

boom!

The sound of artillery fire in the distance was much quieter, but the sound of gunfire was still as intense.

Early next morning.

"Instructor Carter, where is Steve?" Gary took advantage of the meal to find Agent Carter. Although he knew that Steve was cooperating with Senator Bullard's propaganda and mobilization, as Steve's friend, Gary still had to ask.

"Steve has another mission." Agent Carter glanced at Gary and comforted: "He will go to the front line soon. I wish you good luck."

"Thanks."

Frontline defense trenches.

Gunpowder smoke filled the air, and the pungent smell of gunpowder was everywhere, even mixed with the stench of burnt corpses.

When reinforcements from Gary and other soldiers came over, the American and British forces and the German army fought again after a brief ceasefire.

"boom!"

The screams of artillery shells came one after another, falling on the trenches and stirring up a cloud of dust.

"Ta-ta-ta!" The Maxim heavy machine gun spit out flames, bringing a metal storm to suppress the wave after wave of German attacks.

However, even though machine guns and artillery shells kept killing German soldiers, the Germans still desperately attacked the defense line. Under the cover of their own massive artillery fire, they rushed madly towards the trench defense line.

"Fuck, these damn ** are too crazy. Do they only have war in their minds?"

When Gary and others arrived at the third trench line, a black sergeant cursed.

"We don't have much ammunition. If we continue to fight, we will be hit to the first trench line!"

"The reinforcements are here!"

"They're already here!"

Under the gunfire, some officers shouted loudly.

"Sergeant Fury, take these reinforcements and immediately rush into the first trench line from the flank to suppress those crazy Germans. I will arrange artillery fire to cover you!" a lieutenant shouted to the black sergeant.

"What? Are you kidding? These reinforcements are obviously new recruits. Look, some of them have weak legs. Now you tell me to let them press in from the flanks?" the black sergeant yelled.

The lieutenant ignored Sergeant Fury's words and directly ordered artillery fire.

"Hey, what are you doing standing still? Everyone follow me!" Sergeant Fury yelled at Gary and others, and quickly walked along the trench line to the flank.

As he walked, he shouted: "Those guys playing with machine guns, shoot them harder, I don't want to die on the way."

Boom boom!

Da da da!

As artillery fire and violent gunfire rang out, Fury knew very well that he could not miss this opportunity. He shouted to a group of recruits behind him: "Follow me and charge, remember not to stop!"

As soon as he finished speaking, he ran towards the first trench line.

Boo hoo hoo.

The bullets screamed and poured towards the flanks of the position almost instantly.

Puff. Puff. Puff.

The sound of bullets entering flesh was accompanied by screams, and the soldiers who followed Fury soon fell one after another.

"Don't stop!" Sergeant Fury yelled as he ran before he could even turn around.

Gary took a deep breath, stepped on the ground suddenly, and used the strength to speed up crazily, and rushed to the first trench line in less than tens of seconds.

Da da da!

He immediately picked up a Maxim machine gun on the edge of the trench and started sweeping.

The large number of German soldiers who rushed ten meters away from the trench were quickly turned into a hornet's nest by machine guns.

Seeing this, Gary simply held the heavy machine gun and fired rapidly along the trench.

Suddenly, the German soldiers were suppressed and could only retreat.

The firepower originally attacking the flanks was quickly transferred to Gary's side.

The pressure on Fury's side relaxed instantly, and they ran to the trench one after another.

boom!

Several shells fell next to Gary.

"Careful!" Fury yelled.

Gary, who has absorbed cosmic energy, has a reaction speed far beyond that of ordinary people. When he heard the scream, he quickly hid in the trench.

A large amount of dust fell and covered him.

"Hey, boy, do you want your life?" Fury came to the trench and pulled Gary up from the soil. Although he was cursing on his lips, there was an attitude of surprise and appreciation in his eyes.

Gary patted the dirt on his shoulder and grinned: "Those bastards can't kill me!"

"Nick Fury!" the black sergeant stretched out his hand.

"John Gary."

As soon as the two shook hands, they were acquainted.

"You don't look like a recruit at all." Fury looked at Gary and said.

Gary shook his head, "Now is not the time to talk about this!"

Gary was not excited at all about meeting the legendary SHIELD director Nick Fury on the battlefield. After all, this was a frontline battlefield that could be called a meat grinder, and he had no time to express his emotions.

Boom boom!

After another wave of attacks was repelled, the German firepower became more ferocious, and shells poured desperately on the positions of the American and British coalition forces.

Gary and others stayed in the trenches, not daring to show up.

"These damn bastards, don't they lack ammunition?" Fury cursed, and after the artillery attack ended, he shouted: "Suppressive fire, hit me hard!"

The first trench line is very important. Although the 102nd Regiment is composed entirely of new recruits, with the trenches as bunkers, they still blocked the crazy German counterattack.

After the soldiers in the second and third trenches regained their breath, they organized the soldiers to rush to the first trench to suppress the German attack.

Fierce fighting lasted from morning until night.

After nightfall, the sound of artillery fire stopped, and the German army seemed to feel that they could not break through the defense line and retreated like a tide.

"call."

Many soldiers breathed a sigh of relief. Exhausted, they fell down in the trench to rest regardless of their appearance.

Gary was also leaning in the trench pit, as motionless as a dead man. It was his first time to experience such a cruel and high-load war. Even though he had absorbed cosmic energy, he felt unprecedentedly tired, especially his mental state, which was extremely poor.

"vomit……"

Looking at the stumps and broken legs in the trenches, a wave of nausea welled up in my heart.

"Don't hold on, it will make you feel better if you spit it out."

Sergeant Fury next to him said softly.

vomit……

Gary couldn't bear it anymore and vomited directly. Fortunately, he hadn't eaten all day, so all he vomited was acidic water.

Fury shook his head, "It's hard to imagine that this is your first time participating in a war."

He didn't believe it at first, but when he saw Gary's appearance, he immediately believed it. It was his first time on the front line, and he was no better than Gary.

"Drink some water." Fury handed over the military water bottle.

Gary was not polite and took a sip.

After drinking the water, he felt much better.

"This is my first time on the front line, and I have experienced such a large-scale war. Your performance is much better than mine. If it weren't for you, at least these recruits would not be alive so much. I will apply to the commander for combat merit on your behalf!" Fury!

Appreciated.

"Thank you. I feel very lucky to be alive."
