Chapter 336 Railway Traffic

At the mouth of La Plata River in Songzhou, a group of German engineers, accompanied by Han officials, surveyed and mapped the surrounding geographical environment in order to build a railway from Huaiyang Prefecture (Rosario) to Songjiang (Buenos Aires City).

Do preliminary preparations.

There is a huge difference in the natural environment between the north and south regions of the Han Dynasty. With Songjiang Prefecture as the dividing line, the area to the north relies on the main channel and tributaries of the Paraná River and the main channel of the Paraguay River. Inland water transportation is developed. Agricultural products, livestock, and industry along the channels and tributaries are

Processing areas are transported to other parts of the country and overseas through water transport. Therefore, water transport is the main mode of transportation in the northern region. Sixty percent of the civilian ships built by Xinjing Shipyard and Xinghe Shipyard are

The above is used to supply the needs of the northern region, and the remaining 40% is used for ocean transportation.

In the area south of Songjiang, rainfall decreases in a gradient, inland rivers decrease, and river basins are weak. Several inland rivers with ample water capacity cannot form an interconnected water transportation network because their basin lengths are greatly reduced compared with the northern rivers.

There are conditions for the development of water shipping. Therefore, transportation in the southern region still relies on traditional human and animal power.

Four-wheeled horse-drawn carts and ox-carts served as the main means of transportation.

Based on the geography and natural climate differences between the northern and southern regions of the Han Dynasty, the government formulated different transportation development strategies. In the northern region, relying on the Paraná River and Uruguay River waterways, and using ports along the rivers as railway starting points, a number of railways connecting the inland areas were built.

Medium and short-distance railways first transfer commodities and materials from inland areas to river ports by rail transportation, and then transfer commodities and materials to other areas by water transportation.

At the same time, taking into account the national strategic plan, three trunk railways will be built in the northern region in the next ten years.

The first line starts from Chang'an (Córdoba City) and connects to the north in sequence Yongnian City (Tucumán City), the capital of Jinzhou (Catamarca Province and Tucumán Province), and Zhangqiu City (San Salvador-Dehu

Yiyi City), among which the section of railway from Chang'an to Yongnian City was built and opened to traffic by British businessmen in 1876. After the war in Argentina, the British businessmen were compensated with a batch of funds, and the Han government took over control of the railway, and then based on the original railway,

Continue to build to the north and connect to Zhangqiu City.

The southern section of the railway line is the section from Huaiyang Prefecture (Rosario) to Songjiang that German engineers are measuring and observing. Construction is expected to start in May 1880 and be completed by the end of the year.

The Songjiang-Zhangqiu Railway will be the first long-distance railway in Han Dynasty. Since the Huaiyang-Chang'an section and the Chang'an-Yongnian section were both completed and opened to traffic during the Argentine period, the Han government only needs to divide the Huaiyang-Songjiang section and the Yongnian-Zhangqiu section into two short-haul sections.

Once the railway is connected, the more than 1,000-kilometer journey from Zhangqiu to Songjiang can be shortened to just two days. Compared with the original transportation method of alternating land and water routes, it saves about a month.

The second main railway line starts from Huaiyang Prefecture and connects Yunxi City (Parana City), Xianghe City (Posadas), and Xing'an County (Paso Fundo) to the north. It is expected to start construction in two years.

It took one and a half to two years to complete and open to traffic.

The purpose of building the Huaiyang-Xinghe Railway is two-fold. One is to connect the frontline area with Brazil to facilitate future troop mobilization. The other is to strengthen Yangzhou (Rio Grande do Sul) and Luozhou (Santa Catarina).

External transportation capabilities reduce transportation costs for the two places as local industrial bases,

Yangzhou and Luozhou are rare coal producing areas in the La Plata region. The proven coal reserves in the two states account for 90% of Brazil's total domestic coal. They are the earliest industrial bases and heavy industry centers built in the country.

The lack of coal resources is a major problem in developing local industry. For this reason, while effectively utilizing the coal reserves in Wuzhou and Yangzhou to develop industry, we also purchase coal from Colombia, the ninth largest country in coal reserves in the world, and actively explore and develop the Congolese colony.

Coal resources have become a focus of government work in the next stage.

In the more than sixty years between the late 1980s and World War II, the industrial field has not yet moved towards the sophisticated and integrated large-scale industrial system of the 21st century, which utilizes local coal reserves and outsourcing to mine Congo.

Colonial coal and mineral resources can fully meet the needs of local industrial development. If another foreign war breaks out and Han's foreign trade and transportation routes are cut off, Han can also use the rich local timber resources to burn the felled wood into charcoal.

Supplying industrial fields such as inland shipping, printing and dyeing, and grain processing, there is no need to worry about the risk of industrial development being strangled by others.

The third northern railway trunk line starts from Wuzhong City (Montevideo), the capital of Wuzhou (Uruguay), goes north through Hexi County (Santa Maria) and Xing'an County of Yangzhou, and finally ends at Dongsheng County (If

Invia) is the end point.

In the Wuzhong-Dongsheng railway section, two branch lines are planned to be built, one is from Wuzhong to Uling (Pelotas) and Hexi County branch line, and the other is from Hexi County to Xinjing (Porto Alegre route.)

Wuzhou, Yangzhou, and Luozhou are not only the light and heavy industrial bases of the Han Kingdom, but also important grain-producing areas. Because they are located east of the Paraná River and have superior natural environments, they are also habitually called "

These are the three states of Jiangdong.

The northern region is a key area for industrial and agricultural development in Han Dynasty. Although the northern region has alternative conditions for water conservancy and transportation, the northern region still receives policy preference from the government in terms of railway construction, and the area accounts for nearly half of the total land area.

In the southern region of the country, in the development plan for the next ten years, it is only planned to build a road starting from Yanling (La Plata City) and ending with Shanyang City (Neuquén City), the capital of Huazhou (Neuquen State).

long-distance railway trunk lines, as well as several short-distance railway branch lines relying on the Yanling-Shanyang railway section.

The local mineral resources of the Han Kingdom are mainly distributed in Jinzhou (Catamarca Province and Tucumán Province), Songzhou (Buenos Aires Province), and Shouzhou (Santa Cruz Province).

Among them, Jinzhou is rich in copper, gold, lithium and other mineral resources with the highest reserves. Songzhou’s mineral resources are mainly limestone and other rock minerals. Shouzhou’s proven mineral resources are mainly gold mines and silver mines. The mineral resource reserves of the three states are

Accounting for about 70% of the total volume in the original Argentina area.

Songju and Jinju are both located in the north, and only Shouzhou is located in the southern inland area. Although the Cuyo Basin and Neuquén Basin in the northwest, the San Jorge Bay Basin in the south, the Magellan Basin and other areas have developed rapidly in the 21st century.

During the exploration, a total of more than 300 million tons of oil reserves and 27 billion barrels of technically recoverable shale oil reserves were discovered. Argentina has therefore become a net exporter of oil and the fourth largest shale oil resource after Russia, China and the United States.

Reserve country, but limited by the current technical level, oil and shale oil resources cannot bring fiscal revenue to the government. Only the gold and silver mineral resources in Shouzhou made Li Mingyuan excited, and he decided to build the southern railway trunk line. On the one hand, he used

The local gold and silver resources attracted Chinese immigrants to move in. On the other hand, gold mining supplemented the central bank's gold reserves and stabilized the national financial system based on the gold standard.

Of course, after the construction of the four north-south main railway lines is completed and the local railway construction technology has been accumulated, the Pacific Regional Railway connecting the other side of the Andes will also be put into operation based on the north-south main railway lines.
