Chapter 22, The Grail Appears

I heard that at one time, the Buddha was in the Solitary Garden of Savatthi Province, together with a group of 1,250 great bhikkhus. At that time, during the meal, the World Honored One, wearing robes and holding an alms bowl, went to the great city of Savatthi to beg for food. In the city, After begging for the next time, he returned to his original place. After the meal, he collected his clothes and bowl, washed his feet, and sat down on his seat.

At that time, Elder Subhuti stood up from his seat in the crowd, raised his right shoulder, put his right knee on the ground, put his palms together respectfully, and said to the Buddha: "What a blessing! World Honored One! The Tathagata is good at caring for all Bodhisattvas and good at giving advice to all Bodhisattvas. World Honored One, good man!" "Good woman, if she has the mind of Anuttarasamyaksambodhi, how can she live in response to this? How can she subdue her mind?"

The Buddha said: "Excellent, excellent Subhuti! As you said: The Tathagata protects and cares for all Bodhisattvas well and gives instructions to Bodhisattvas well. You listen carefully now! I should say to you: Good men and good women, give birth to Anuttara. The mind of Miao San Bodhicitta should abide in this way and subdue its mind in this way."

"Yi Ran. World Honored One! I wish you could hear the joy."

The Buddha told Subhuti: "Bodhisattvas and mahasattvas should subdue their minds in this way! All sentient beings: whether born from an egg, whether born from a womb, whether born from moisture, whether born by transformation; whether they have form or colorlessness; whether they have thoughts or not. Think about it, if there is no thought or no thought, I will cause them to enter Nirvana without any residue and save them. In this way, countless and boundless sentient beings will be saved. In fact, no sentient beings will be saved. Why? Subhuti! If a Bodhisattva has a self-image or a human-like image, , the appearance of living beings, the appearance of longevity, that is, not the Bodhisattva.

"Again, Subhuti! A Bodhisattva should not abide in the Dharma, but should practice giving. It is called giving without abiding in form, giving without ceasing in sound, fragrance, touching the Dharma. Subhuti! A Bodhisattva should give in this way and should not dwell in appearance. Why? If If a Bodhisattva never stops giving charity, his merits will be immeasurable.

"Subhuti! What do you mean? Is the space in the east conceivable?"

"No, World Honored One!"

"Subhuti! Is it conceivable that the four dimensions of space above, south, west, north, and below are measurable?"

"No, World Honored One!"

"Subhuti! If a Bodhisattva does not live in charity, his merits will be so immeasurable. Subhuti, a Bodhisattva should only live as taught.

"Subhuti! What do you mean? Can you meet the Tathagata in body?"

"No, World Honored One! You cannot see the Tathagata through the physical form. Why? The physical form mentioned by the Tathagata is not the physical form."

The Buddha told Subhuti: "All appearances are false. If you see all appearances as non-appearances, you will see the Tathagata."

Subhuti said to the Buddha: "World Honored One, there are many sentient beings who, after hearing such words and sentences, will truly believe them?"

The Buddha told Subhuti: "Don't say this. After the death of the Tathagata, in the next five hundred years, there are those who keep the precepts and practice blessings. This chapter can give rise to faith. Take this as a reality. You should know that these people are not like one Buddha, two Buddhas, three, four, five The Buddha has planted good roots, and has planted good roots in countless thousands of Buddhas. He who hears this chapter and has even one thought to have pure faith is Subhuti! The Tathagata knows and sees that all living beings have gained such immeasurable merit. Why? These living beings have no The appearance of myself, the appearance of human beings, the appearance of living beings, and the appearance of longevity.

"There is no form, and there is no illegal form. Why? If all sentient beings take the form with their hearts, it will be for the sake of my sentient beings' longevity.

"If you take the appearance of Dharma, it will affect the longevity of all sentient beings. Why? If you take the appearance of Dharma, it will affect the longevity of all sentient beings. Therefore, you should not take the Dharma, and you should not take the Dharma. For this reason, Tathagata always says: You Bhikkhus, if you know that my teaching is like a raft, the Dharma should be given up, let alone illegal.

"Subhuti! What do you mean? The Tathagata has attained Anuttarasamyaksambodhi? Has the Tathagata preached something?"

Subhuti said: "As I understand the meaning of what the Buddha said, there is no definite Dharma called Anuttarasamyaksambodhi, and there is no definite Dharma that the Tathagata can say. Why? What the Tathagata has said is undesirable, unspeakable, and illegal. , not illegal. So what is it? All sages are differentiated by the non-action method."

"Subhuti, what do you mean? If a person fills the seven treasures of the three thousand worlds and gives them away, how much merit will he receive?"

Subhuti said: "It's so many, World Honored One! Why? This merit is not the nature of merit. That's why the Tathagata says there are many merits."

"If there is another person who accepts and upholds this sutra, even four lines of verses, and recites it to others, his blessings are greater than that of others. Why? Subhuti! All Buddhas, and the Buddha Anuttarasamyaksambodhi Dharma,

All come from this sutra. Subhuti! The so-called Buddha and Dharma are not Buddha and Dharma.

"Subhuti! What do you mean? Can a Sotapanna think like this: 'I have attained the Sotapanna fruit'?"

Subhuti said: "No, World Honored One! Why? The Sotapanna is called the stream that enters. It has nothing to enter, and it does not enter the form, sound, fragrance, or touch of the Dharma. This is called the Sotapanna."

"Subhuti, what do you mean? Can Sri Lankan think like this: 'I have achieved the fruit of Sri Lankan'?"

Subhuti said: "No, World Honored One! Why? The name of Sri Lanka is that there is a coming and going, but in fact there is no traffic. This is the name of Sri Lanka."

"Subhuti! What do you mean? Can Anagami think like this: 'I have attained the fruit of Anagami'?"

Subhuti said: "No, World Honored One! Why? Anagami is called non-coming, but in fact everything is non-coming. That is why it is called Anagami."

"Subhuti! What do you mean? Can an Arhat think like this: 'I have attained the path of an Arhat'?"

Subhuti said: "No, World Honored One! Why? There is no Dharma called Arhat. World Honored One! If an Arhat thinks like this: "I have attained the path of Arhat," it will be for the sake of the longevity of all sentient beings. World Honored One! The Buddha said that I have attained it.

The samadhi of non-existence is the first among men, the first renunciation Arahant. World Honored One, I do not think like this: "I am the renunciation Arahant."

It is said that Subhuti is a person who practices joyful Alana! Since Subhuti actually does nothing, he is called Subhuti who practices joyful Alana."

The Buddha said to Subhuti: "What do you mean? Did the Tathagata gain anything from the Dharma when he was at Randeng Buddha?"

"No, World Honored One! The Tathagata is in the place of Ran Deng Buddha and has gained nothing from the reality of the Dharma."

"Subhuti! What do you mean? Does the Bodhisattva adorn the Buddha Land?"

"No, World Honored One! Why? To adorn the Buddha's land is not to be adorned, but to be adorned."

"Therefore, Subhuti, all Bodhisattvas and Mahasattvas should have a pure mind in this way. They should not have a mind that abides in form, they should not abide in sound, fragrance, touch, and Dharma. They should have a mind that abides in nothing.

"Subhuti! For example, there is a person whose body is like the King of Mount Sumeru. What does that mean? Is his body a great thing?"

Subhuti said: "How great, World Honored One! Why? The Buddha said it is not a body, it is called a great body."

"Subhuti! As many as there are sands of sand in the Ganges River, what do you mean by the number of sands in the Ganges River? Are there many sands in the Ganges River?"

Subhuti said: "So many, World Honored One! But there are countless Ganges rivers, not to mention their sand!"

"Subhuti! I tell you the truth now: If a good man or a good woman fills three thousand universes with seven treasures, as many as the sands of the Ganges River, and uses them to give away, will he or she gain much blessing?"

Subhuti said: "Very many, World Honored One!"

The Buddha told Subhuti: "If a good man or good woman accepts and upholds even four verses of this sutra and recites it to others, this merit will be greater than the previous merit. Again, Subhuti! As you recite this sutra,

Even four lines of stanzas, you should know that here, all the gods, humans, and asuras in the world should make offerings, just like a pagoda or a temple, not to mention someone who can accept, uphold, read, and recite them as much as possible. Subhuti! You should know that this is the most rare and supreme achievement of human beings.

If the Dharma is where the scriptures are, then there is a Buddha, and if you respect your disciples."

At that time, Subhuti said to the Buddha: "World Honored One, what should we call this sutra? How can we uphold it?"

The Buddha told Subhuti: "This sutra is called "Vajra Prajna Paramita". Because of this name, you should uphold it. Why? Subhuti! The Buddha said Prajna Paramita, but it is not Prajna Paramita. Subhuti! What does this mean?

Does the Tathagata have something to say?"

Subhuti said to the Buddha: "World Honored One, the Tathagata has nothing to say."

"Subhuti! What do you mean? Are all the motes of dust in the three thousand great thousand worlds too many?"

Subhuti said: "Very many, World Honored One!"

"Subhuti! The Tathagata says that all motes of dust are not motes of dust. They are called motes of dust. The Tathagata says: The world is not a mote of dust. This is called a world.

"Subhuti! What do you mean? Can you meet the Tathagata in the thirty-two appearances?"

"No, World Honored One! You cannot see the Tathagata through the thirty-two physical signs. Why? The Tathagata said: The thirty-two physical signs are right and wrong. They are called the thirty-two physical signs."

"Subhuti! If there are good men or women who give as much as the sand of the Ganges with their lives, and if there are people who even receive and uphold four verses of this sutra and preach it to others, their blessings will be great!"
