Chapter 4

"I'm so old that I forgot about these poor people."

Batchelor quickly asked the waiter to bring a piece of bread. The waiter was about to hand the bread to the woman and his child, but Reggie took it away first.

"I want to give this piece of bread to this great mother with my own hands." Reggie tore off a piece of bread and handed it to the woman. The woman was a little overwhelmed holding the bread.

Reggie said: "You haven't eaten for two days, aren't you hungry?"

The woman came back to her senses and quickly stood up and said: "Thank you, Lord Lord!"

"You're welcome. Eat quickly. You must be starving."

The woman took the bread, took a bite, and chewed hard: "Thank you, sir. It's really delicious."

"Really? Is it delicious? You don't seem to like it too much." Looking at the woman's exaggerated movements, Reggie smiled, "During the war, life was difficult for everyone. If I only give you this piece of bread, you

What should I do?”

"Ah..." The woman swallowed the bread hard, not knowing how to answer Reggie's question.

"Let me remind you, will you finish all this bread?"

Only then did the woman wake up.

"I'm sorry, sir, I'm so hungry." The woman gave the remaining bread to the child. The child looked up at the woman, and the woman said: "Eat, my child, this is a gift from the lord."

The remaining bread was about the size of a fist. The child bit off half of it in one bite and stuffed the rest of the bread into his mouth with the second bite.

This is what it looks like to be hungry for two days.

The child choked. Reggie quickly asked the waiter to give the child some water. Sane knocked on the table impatiently and said, "Lord, what do you want to do?"

"It's nothing, I just want to care about my people," Reggie said with a smile, "Aren't you going to draft a decree, Mr. Administrative Officer? Just concentrate on your business."

Sann frowned and remained silent. He dipped his quill in some ink, and small beads of sweat appeared on his forehead.

The child swallowed the bread, but his eyes were still looking at the bread in Reggie's hand.

"I just made a joke, don't worry, kid, these are all yours." Reggie handed the bread to the woman, "Can you let your mother keep it for you first?"

The child lowered his head, his eyes full of disappointment. The woman took the bread and thanked Reggie again.

"Your child is so cute," Reggie said with a smile, "What's his name? It's Jon, right?"

"Her child's name is Jimmy!" the political officer said, "Please give this mother the most basic respect!"

"No offense," Reggie shrugged and smiled, "My memory hasn't been very good lately."

A drop of ink dripped from the Administrative Officer's quill, which also stained the parchment red. Sarn roughly crumpled the parchment into a ball, and the waiter hurriedly came forward and brought a new piece of paper.

Reggie asked again: "How old is your child?"

The woman replied: "Five years old, my lord."

"In what month was he born?"

"He was born in May, my lord."

"May, five years ago," Reggie thought for a moment and said, "five years ago happened to be a leap month in May. Was he born in the first May or the second May?"

"Yes, it is the second May, sir."

"Are you sure?"

"I'm sure, my lord."

"Sir Grand Maester," Reggie turned to Batchelor, "tell this lady, was there a second May five years ago?"

Bachelot opened his mouth and couldn't make a sound for a long time.

"Grand Maester! I'm asking you a question!"

Bachelo shivered for a long time and replied: "Five years ago it was indeed a leap year, but it was a leap month."

Reggie smiled and said: "In other words, there was no second May five years ago, right, ma'am?"

The woman's hair was soaked with sweat. She looked at the child and then turned her attention to Sann.

In this short period of time, Sann had already damaged three pieces of parchment. He put down his pen, looked directly at Reggie, and said: "Lord, I think this poor mother was frightened by you."

The arrogant political officer is still so calm at this moment.

He was so accustomed to using despicable means to tease the pedantic Reggie that he dared to use such a clumsy actor to stage such a clumsy play on such an occasion.

Such actors are called shills in modern society. Reggie had seen many shills like this in his previous life, because the characters and lines were very crudely prepared, and as long as he asked a few more questions, he would make a lot of mistakes.

Reggie looked at the woman and asked, "Are you scared? So scared that you forgot your child's birthday?"

"I'm really scared, sir. I remembered wrongly. My child was born in May, not the second May." The woman tried her best to avoid Reggie's gaze.

"What's your husband's name?" Reggie began, testing the actor's memory.

"His name is Darnes, my lord."

"Did he go out of the city alone?"

"Yes, my lord."

"Where does he go to harvest the wheat?"

"My family's farmland, sir."

"Where is your home?"

"Three miles outside the city."

"You have good eyesight, madam," Reggie said with a smile. "He was cutting wheat three miles outside the city. How did you know that he was beheaded by the cavalry?"

The woman was shaking violently, and her eyes looked at Sann from time to time.

"Sir," Sann stood up. This was the first time Reggie had seen him stand up from his chair. "I beg you not to embarrass this poor mother anymore. She is really frightened by you!"

"Answer me ma'am!" Reggie ignored Sane and asked, "How did you see your husband beheaded by the cavalry?"

It stands to reason that the questioning should end here. This woman has been completely exposed. She is neither the mother of the child nor a poor widow. She should honestly confess her identity to Reggie.

But this woman seems unusual. She still has the courage to continue dealing with Reggie.

"It's Ferrar, it's Ferrar who saw it!" the woman replied, "Ferrar is my neighbor. He went out to the city to cut wheat with my husband. I misremembered him."

"You remembered it wrong again," although there was a sarcasm on his face, Reggie admired this woman's quick wit, "Where is Mr. Ferrar now?"

"I don't know. He took his family with him after he came back. He may have left Broken Snow City."

"Family?" Reggie laughed again, and the actor dug another hole for himself. "Does he have a wife?"

"have."

"What's his wife's name?"

"The name is...Linda, my lord."

"How many children does he have?"

"Two children, my lord."

"He went to cut wheat with your husband. Why didn't the cavalry kill him?"

"He runs faster."

"Is it faster than a cavalry horse?"

"I don't know, my lord, that's what he told me."

Reggie suddenly lowered his head and said to the child: "Jimmy, is your mother right?"

The child was stunned for a long time. Under the urging of his "mother", he nodded and said: "Yes, sir."

"How many children does your neighbor have?"

"Yes..." The child looked at the woman and didn't know how to answer. At his age, he couldn't remember so many lies, and they were lies he had never heard before.

"Sir, you shouldn't embarrass a child! I reiterate, please give this mother and son the most basic respect!" Sane roared angrily.

"Please give me the most basic respect!" Reggie looked directly into Sarn's eyes for the first time, "I am the lord of Shattered Snow City! I am talking to my people!"

Sarn gasped angrily and looked at Reggie for a moment. He sat back on the chair because he found that it was not only Reggie who was looking directly at him, but also the guard captain and the first knight.

"The Lord is right," Jiawen said, "Baron, you must give the Viscount enough respect."

Erwin did not speak, but his hand was placed on the hilt of the sword.

Thane sweated a lot, even more than Erwin did when he first entered the meeting hall.

Reggie once again turned his attention to the child.

"Tell me, Jimmy, how many children does your neighbor have?"

The boy lowered his head and did not dare to say anything. The woman said from the side: "Have you forgotten? Our neighbor has two children. Sir, he is too young and he is frightened. Sir, just ask me."

"

"Ask you? Okay," Reggie asked with a smile, "What's your neighbor's wife's name?"

"..." The woman licked her lips and gave no answer.

"I'm sorry for you. It's hard to remember lies that you make up casually, right?"
