Chapter 208 Recruiting artificial mobile phones

Entrepreneurship is often like running around in the world. A big brother who is willing to start a business will try his best to gather a group of like-minded brothers to conquer the city...

The successful ancients include "three sworn brothers in Taoyuan", and the failed ones include "one burner of incense in Wagang" and "one hundred single and eight generals in Water Margin".

In modern times, typical examples include Ali's "Arhat" and Penguin's "Entrepreneurial Five".

Lu Yan is also actively recruiting talents.

Because these industry elites, in the story of "Three Kingdoms", are powerful advisers and generals who have their own agenda, and they are not so easy to recruit.

When Rebus was preparing to make mobile phones, almost all of the first year of the company's establishment was spent on finding people.

Because the first few people came from the Internet industry, they didn’t understand hardware and didn’t have enough connections in hardware.

Before Rebus met Dr. Zhou Yuping, he had been talking to several candidates for more than two months, and the progress was extremely slow.

Lu Yan first found Lin Bin. Later, through his connections, Lin Bin found his old colleague Huang Jiangji, chief engineer of the Microsoft Engineering Academy.

At this time, the R&D team led by Huang Jiangji at Microsoft was reorganized and the work was not easy to do, so he complained to Lin Bin.

Lin Bin immediately invited him to leave Microsoft and start a business. The straightforward invitation moved Huang Jiangji, who was already depressed. After chatting with Lu Yan once, he agreed to join China Technology.

Another old subordinate Lin Bin hired was Hong Feng, the former senior product manager of Google China and an otaku geek.

Under the leadership of Lin Bin, when he met with Lu Yan, he asked many key questions. For example, does he have a hardware team? Do he know the operator? Do he have specific design ideas?

Obviously I came prepared to see if the boss was reliable.

Fortunately, Lu Yan had already thought about these issues before preparing to make a mobile phone.

The hardware team is being formed. As for the operator, through Bao Bufan, I have met several leaders of Jinling Telecom. They have the intention to cooperate and are negotiating.

As for the design concept of mobile phones, of course, the traditional keyboard is abandoned and a capacitive touch screen is adopted, equipped with an intelligent operating system and powerful multimedia functions.

In this regard, we have the same idea as Meizu, which started out as an MP3 player.

Meizu’s advantage is that it initiated the transformation project earlier, but it also took many detours.

For example, as early as 2007, the Meizu M8 project was approved!

But the first question before boss Sassafras is which operating system to choose!

For Lu Yan at this moment, this is not a problem at all, it must be Android!

But it didn’t work then. Android was only released at the end of 2008. At that time, the only ones that were open and could be used as smart operating systems for mobile phones were Windows Mobile, Linux and Win CE.

The licensing fee for the Mobile system is too expensive, and the operation itself is PC-oriented. In Meizu's opinion, it does not meet the requirements of the M8 in terms of cost and control.

Linux is free and highly customizable, and you can completely customize a system that meets the requirements of M8. However, the technical threshold is relatively high. Linux is only a core, and you have to do the upper layers of the system yourself.

Meizu, which started out as an MP3 player, was really unable to develop it, so in the end it had to choose Win CE.

In addition to the system, the screen problem of the mobile phone is also critical, and Meizu has encountered even more problems.

They initially found a small company to cooperate with, but the other company's products were not very accurate, and the rate of false touches was very high when typing on a small screen.

Meizu and the engineers of that company worked together for a year, but failed to solve the problem, and finally canceled the cooperation. Then Meizu successively approached Goodix Technology, BYD and other companies, but failed to find a suitable solution.

It wasn't until Apple's press conference that a capacitive touch technology company surfaced - TPK, that Meizu found the right company.

It happened that TPK also wanted to expand the market, so the two companies hit it off immediately, and the touch glass panel was easily developed.

As for the touch IC, we finally reached a cooperation with Synaptics, the industry's top capacitive touch IC manufacturer, after two months of requesting and negotiating.

At this point, the touch control problem that has plagued Meizu for two years has been completely solved.

From the perspective of the future, Meizu M8 can only be regarded as an antique, but it was quite amazing when it was launched.

Just like in the era when the Internet was not yet developed, if you look at other people selling clothes and shoes in the mall, even if you have funds, it is not possible to find a suitable source of goods immediately.

Lu Yan's advantage is that he can bypass the detours that Meizu took in the past. When getting on the highway, all he needs to do is step on the accelerator.

For example, after the M8 was launched, Jobs believed that Meizu’s design had stolen Apple’s creativity and intellectual property. Therefore, one year after its release, Sassafras said that the M8 would stop production.

This is a bit wasteful, so Lu Yan is trying hard to avoid this for the Shenzhou mobile phone he is planning to launch.

Lin Bin, Huang Jiangji, and Hong Feng all had a background in software. In terms of hardware, Lu Yan naturally fell in love with Dr. Zhou Yuping, chief engineer and senior director of Motorola's Beijing R&D Center.

In another time and space, there was serious internal strife at Motorola. Zhou Yuping resigned in 2009 and joined Dell as vice president of product development for Star Wireless. In 2010, he was invited by Rebus to become the co-founder of Xiaomi and served as vice president, responsible for hardware and

BSP team.

Since Lu Yan entered the mobile phone market early, he naturally could not let such a talent go.

After being introduced to each other by the leaders of the school, the two sides talked back and forth for more than a week. In the end, they even secretly used the words "fellow Taoist stay" and "you are destined to me". Finally, the old gentleman agreed to marry someone who had not yet graduated from college.

After graduation, I worked with the bosses of two companies to start a business together.

It’s also quite difficult!

In addition to these few, through high salaries, more than ten seniors were recruited from the school to add to the design and R&D team.

As for female classmate Su Ke, because she has too little experience, she can only do financial work.

Within the company, Lu Yan discussed mobile phone design with the R&D team.

He drew the concept drawings himself, and wrote all the design and product concepts on them, and discussed them with everyone. It was quite boring to constantly demonstrate the possibilities and the problems he encountered, etc.

What makes everyone feel a little excited is that Lu Yan's ideas are very broad, or creative.

They always come up with some functional designs that sound great but cannot be realized with the current technical level, which makes everyone both yearn for and suffer from it.

Everyone closed their doors and focused on making mobile phones, but on this day, they suddenly heard a piece of news.

The M8 mobile phone, newly designed and produced by Meizu Company, will go on sale on February 28th.

Big screen, touch, smart phone!

People in the company were shocked when they heard the news, and felt a little regretful. After all, it is the first large-screen smartphone in China!

However, the project was established two years ago, and this place has only been established for less than two months. There is actually no regrets!

Lu Yan, on the other hand, remembers that in another time and space, the M8 went on sale on February 18th, which would be a full ten days late!

The butterfly effect!
