Chapter 536: The Shadow of the Economic Crisis

Romania's New Deal began various construction projects with the vigorous promotion of the government.

In February 1930, construction of the Bucharest-Odessa railway began.

In April, construction of the Bucharest, Constanta, and Varna circular railways started.

In June, the construction of the Constanta-Bekescibo double-track railway started.

In July, construction of the railway from Bekeschoba to Lviv, which was the most difficult to construct, began.

In just over half a year, Romania has entered a large construction site, with infrastructure being built everywhere. These infrastructures range from tunnels and bridges, to power stations and railways, to irrigation canals and rural dirt roads. At this moment, everyone in Romania is building infrastructure.

The construction of these infrastructures is busy.

Since everyone is so busy, Karaturi, as the top person in charge of the government, is no exception. Now when he opens his eyes, there are many things waiting for him to deal with. In the Prime Minister's Office, the secretary is reporting to Karaturi on the current situation.

Things that need to be dealt with by him.

"Prime Minister, the report sent by the Province of Transiniva states that the current storage of construction materials they have is no longer sufficient to support various construction tasks in the province. I hope the government can coordinate a supply of materials to the province."

Hearing what the secretary said, Karaturi felt a little strange, so he asked, "This was transferred directly to the construction department. Why did it come to me?"

"Didn't Minister of Transportation Li Dier go down for inspection? The other people who can take care of this matter are not in Bucharest, so they were transferred to Your Excellency."

The secretary's explanation relieved Karaturi. Nowadays, large-scale infrastructure construction across the country has made people at the Ministry of Transportation very busy. It is completely normal for some matters to be transferred to him for review.

So after listening to the secretary's explanation, Karaturi picked up the report and reviewed it. In fact, Transylvania didn't need much, just 30,000 tons of cement, 20,000 tons of steel, plus some other supplies.

.

It didn't seem like a lot of supplies in Karaturi, but it looked like very good supplies in Transinivaca.

What a pity. Although Transylvania has a very high strategic position in Romania, when it comes to economic development, it is just a mouthful of snot and tears, which is sad. Since the province was liberated, except for the beginning, it was like sprinkling pepper.

Apart from receiving some aid as before, the province has received very little economic support from the government. From the previous development of Western Galicia to the subsequent infrastructure construction plan, Transiniva has been the one with the smallest share.

bit. This has disappointed the two million people in the province.

However, this cannot be blamed for the government’s weak support for Transiniva. Just look at the map and you will know why this is the case. Transiniva almost encircles the Carpathian Mountains in the country;

Mountains are hills. And the hilly areas suitable for human life only account for two-fifths of its territory. This makes it impossible for the government, which mainly develops the economy, to invest a lot of money here.

The importance of Transiniva is not revealed now in peaceful times. Only when the situation in Europe is turbulent will the importance of this region to Romania be revealed. Therefore, the economic growth of the province has been ranked at the bottom in these years.

The originally affluent areas gradually revealed their financial difficulties. Of course, the government was well aware of this, so it took this construction opportunity to allocate a large amount of materials to the area. It was mainly used for water conservancy construction and road expansion.

After solving the problem of building materials in Transiniva, Karaturi continued to listen to the secretary's report on other work.

"Then there was an accident in Bacau County, Moldavia Province. When the road was being built here, firecrackers were fired into the mountains, causing a landslide that killed 19 workers."

When he heard that the accident had occurred, Karaturi's expression became serious. "How are the aftermath work going?"

Karaturi is not afraid of accidents. How can current construction projects prevent accidents from happening? The most important thing is to appease the families of the victims and not cause delays in construction or dissatisfaction of other workers.

It was obvious that the secretary also knew where Karaturi was concerned, so he said directly, "The local government has sent people to comfort him and provided him with sufficient pension. The family members have shown no other action except sadness."

"Which company undertook that section of the project?"

No wonder Karaturi would ask this question. Because the current construction projects are too huge and state-owned construction companies are unable to undertake them all, they will inevitably release a lot of them to private companies for bidding, and these private construction companies are of all types and sizes.

Yes, the Prime Minister is afraid that these private companies only care about making money and do not care enough about their workers.

The secretary pulled out the information and said, "It's a construction company called Hilco. The company was founded by a local person from Jihilco, but it gained three more shareholders half a year ago."

Karaturi knew as soon as he heard that this should be a construction company composed of local officials and businessmen. It was estimated that a local businessman gave the company the shares that could determine the bidder. Karaturi had already seen this a lot, so he said.

"Let's beat this company and ask them to pay attention to the safety of their workers. If such a serious thing happens again, they will be disqualified."

"Okay, I will send a message to ask questions later."

"Anymore?"

Karaturi asked about the secretary.

"Also there is a report here about a fall in Polish exports."

The secretary handed the report to him. "This has just been completed by the customs."

Karaturi looked at the export report and couldn't help but said, "Why did it drop so much?"

It turns out that in this report, Romania’s exports to Poland fell by as much as 24%.

This economic crisis has gradually affected Europe, and now all countries have suffered heavy losses in the face of this crisis. A large number of unemployed workers have also affected Poland's most important food exports. The sluggishness of Poland's exports has naturally affected its consumption capacity. In 1930

Among them, Poland's import and export decreased by 18%, of which exports decreased by 13.7% and imports decreased by 28.4%.

As Romania's largest exporter, Poland has been most directly affected by the sharp drop in import and export trade. A large number of orders from Poland have been cancelled, leaving these factories with insufficient operating rates. Fortunately, domestic consumption has not declined yet.

It can also guarantee the operation of these factories. If the domestic economy also suffers from a downturn, it will be the most uncomfortable. I believe that many factories will be in danger of closing down by then.

So this made Karaturi immediately feel the importance of this matter. After taking care of other matters at hand, he immediately rushed to the palace. He planned to find King Edel to find a solution.
