Chapter 1 Bodhisattvas and Names

Some people say that there is no distinction between good and bad, and the same is true for evil, because big and small good deeds are all accumulation of virtue, while big and small evils are all karma.

The Bodhisattva became anxious after hearing this. She said how could there be no distinction between good and evil, big or small? One is one, two is two, and there are three, four, five, six, and seven.

Bodhisattva is not very good at reasoning, because she is a different kind of Bodhisattva. Bodhisattva said that she thinks good and evil, big and small, probably...

Good things are small and big, one is to know the warmth and coldness, the other is to save the common people.

Whether evil is great or small, one causes suffering for all sentient beings, and the other causes harm to others.

What the Bodhisattva said must be right, no one doubts it.

The Bodhisattva lives in Nanshan Village, and everyone in Yunzhou and 281 counties knows it. Even a three-year-old child can tell the name of the Bodhisattva.

It is said that there are thirty-six places like Yunzhou in this world. I wonder if there are any such Bodhisattvas in other thirty-five states.

When the Bodhisattva was there, no one came to her for help. On the contrary, people would come from time to time, put down some things and leave without even entering.

New gifts appear at the door of the Bodhisattva's house every day, including firewood, rice, oil, salt, and silk and satin.

The poor put down eggs, the rich put down gold and silver.

The Bodhisattva didn't want anything, but she was afraid that the things would break, so she built an awning.

If someone needs something at home urgently, he can come to this awning to get it. There is no need to tell her. The Bodhisattva said that everything in this shed is good, and she is at most a good person.

No matter whether the kindness is borrowed or the kindness is returned, it is not her kindness but belongs to all living beings.

It has become a habit for people. Today, if someone's home is short of three feet of cloth, they come to the shed to get it.

Someone's home is short of oil and salt tomorrow, so they came here to get it.

In the future, if someone's home is short of gold or silver, he can take as much as he needs.

However, after such a long time, the things in the shed have not become less, but have become more and more abundant every day.

So there was a very big warehouse outside the Bodhisattva's house. People from all over the country came over, brought their own food, and built it for thirty-two days. After building it, they left.

The Bodhisattva said that she was a good person, so the people thought, then this treasury should be called the treasury of good deeds.

No one would imagine what the world would be like without Bodhisattvas.

That day, the Bodhisattva disappeared.

In the fields, farmers were bending down to work. Someone ran past the field path and shouted hoarsely.

"The Bodhisattva is gone, the Bodhisattva is gone!"

The farmers were stunned, then silently put away their hoes and turned to go home.

In the county town, there were many people on the streets and many shops. Some people ran past the shop doors, shouting that the Bodhisattva is gone, the Bodhisattva is gone.

All the pedestrians stopped when they heard the sound, and all the merchants were stunned when they heard the sound. Then the pedestrians went home and the shops closed.

In the county government office, the elder was sitting in the chair, and the plaintiff and defendant were kneeling in the hall. The two groups of people got into a fight because of who poured the wheat into the canal first. The fight resulted in bruises and swollen faces.

The elder glared at them and was about to speak when he heard someone outside the county government hall shouting that the Bodhisattva is gone, the Bodhisattva is gone.

The old man sat there without moving for a while, forgetting what he wanted to say, but his face looked a little pale.

The people kneeling in the hall looked at each other, and then helped each other to get up. The plaintiff supported the defendant, and the defendant supported the plaintiff. The two groups of people hurriedly left the county government office and rushed home.

When people hear the news that the Bodhisattva is gone, the first thing they do is rush home.

They want to go home and change clothes.

People in Wuwei County all know that Bodhisattva is a clean person, even though she has been unable to move for a while and is bedridden, unable to even turn over.

But the clothes on his body were not dirty and his hair was not messed up.

When we went to see off the Bodhisattva, everyone put on the mourning clothes that had been prepared long ago, because they had heard the doctor say long ago that the Bodhisattva might not last long.

Every household prepared mourning robes for the Bodhisattva, but no one thought it was strange.

Bodhisattvas always return to heaven, so no one blames the doctors on earth for not being able to cure Bodhisattva's illnesses.

If you were in other places and said that Bodhisattvas are old, you would definitely be laughed at.

But in Wuwei County, if you ask how old the Bodhisattva is, anyone who is not an immature child will tell you that the Bodhisattva is seventy-six years old.

There are one hundred and twenty-seven villages in Wuwei County, with different distances, so the time for getting the news is also different.

From the first day to the fifth day, a total of 380,000 people came to Nanshan Village, both inside and outside.

Everyone is wearing white clothes, and everyone is a filial son.

However, only the young man who just turned fourteen this year can hold the Bodhisattva's farewell jar in one hand and the filial son flag in the other.

Everyone calls this young man Yao'er because he is the Bodhisattva's Yao'er.

The Bodhisattva has adopted a total of hundreds of children in his life, starting fourteen years ago, when the Bodhisattva's hair had just started to turn gray.

That year, the Bodhisattva's four sons died in battle one after another, ranging from senior officials to fourth-rank generals, with 1,200 men and horses under his command, all of whom were the best among the best.

The second child is the captain of the Fearless Battalion. There are no cowards in the Fearless Battalion, and everyone is the best scout.

The third child does not know martial arts, but he has learned medical skills. In the army, he is called Mr. Death-killer, the person who takes lives with the King of Hell.

When it comes to status, the fourth child is the least promising, because he only lived to be twenty-one, so he was not very mature. On that day, he cut off the queen alone and killed sixty-nine enemies.

However, the general personally went out of the camp, called a death squad of 300 people, and retrieved his body. Among the corpses, there were 161 arrowheads dug out.

The Bodhisattva's children were all gone, and the Bodhisattva became a Bodhisattva on that day.

Yunzhou is a frontier, and there are many wars and orphans on the frontier.

When the Bodhisattva was sixty-two years old, she began to travel to other places. If there were orphans who had no hope of survival, the Bodhisattva would take them back.

The husband died outside the customs before his four sons died in the battle. The Bodhisattva had just erected a tomb for her husband and the graves for her four sons.

Many people say that Bodhisattva suffered too much, so God favored him and allowed him to live seventy-six years, which is rare in the world.

Only a few people said that the Bodhisattva saved too many people and competed with Yama for her life. Yama was very angry, so he punished her to live for another fourteen years. Day and night, thinking about her loved ones was torture.

More than two years ago, the Bodhisattva said that he could no longer support himself and would just support one more person, so the young man had a chance to survive.

On the day of the funeral, the young man walked in front of the coffin without bowing his head, without tears, or even with any sadness on his face.

Some people in the crowd whispered, saying that if you are so emotionless, how can you be without sadness?

The young man heard it, but he didn't argue and just walked silently.

The location of the tomb was his choice. He had chosen it a long time ago, and it was not difficult to choose. It was next to the tomb of the Bodhisattva's husband.

The grave had been dug, and the strong men carried the coffin and lowered it down. The young man knelt down and kowtowed, one by one, until his forehead turned red, but he still didn't shed any tears.

After the funeral was over, someone finally stood up and accused the young man of not being filial.

The young man remained silent at first, but later more and more people accused him. After all, he was still young and could not suppress his youthful spirit.

"You know that she has been bedridden for two and a half years, but do you know that she curls up in pain day and night, and I can't loosen it even when I massage her to stimulate blood circulation?"

"You said that she lived a long life because of her good deeds and accumulated virtues, which is a blessing. But do you know that in the next few years, she always said that she saw her husband and four sons beside her bed?"

Everyone fell silent.

They all know that the Bodhisattva loves to be clean. Even though he stayed in bed for so long, his hair was not messed up and his clothes were not dirty.

But they didn't know that this young man was taking care of him every day. The Bodhisattva slept very little every day, and the pain was like being bitten by insects and ants, and this young man slept even less every day.

The young man said: "She is not a Bodhisattva. She never has been. She is just a miserable person. If I hadn't been unable to do it, I would have really wanted to kill her. I have tried, but I can't even get past the test in my heart...

.”

Everyone was still silent.

The county magistrate was in the crowd. He walked up to the young man, raised his hand and patted the young man on the shoulder.

"The Bodhisattva is gone, do you still want to be a good person?"

The young man shook his head: "If I don't do it, then Shoushanku has nothing to do with me, it's just that she has something to do with me."

So some people scolded him again, saying that he had forgotten his roots.

The county magistrate turned back to look at the scolding man and asked, "How about you go and guard?"

The man immediately shut up and said nothing more, not because he was convinced, but because he was the county magistrate.

The county magistrate said: "She just went, don't make any noise, it's not respectable."

The young man exhaled heavily, then knelt down and kowtowed to the crowd: "Thank you for coming to see her off."

The crowd gradually dispersed, but some people were still cursing, thinking that this young man was really nothing. The Bodhisattva had been guarding the treasury for so many years, but he didn't want to guard it.

The young man looked at the dispersed crowd and said loudly: "Please remember, the Bodhisattva is not called Granny Liu. Even if everyone in Yunzhou knows her as Granny Liu, it is still wrong. My mother-in-law's last name was Lin before she got married. Remember

, she is Granny Lin."

People who were walking looked back at the young man, with anger in their eyes.

Everyone in Yunzhou knows that the Bodhisattva is called Granny Liu. If you say your surname is Lin, then your surname is Lin? The county magistrate was the last to leave. He sat beside the young man for a long time, and the young man knelt in front of the grave for a long time.

The county magistrate asked: "Where are you going?"

The young man did not answer directly, but said: "My mother-in-law once asked me if the Shou Shan Treasury is big? I said it is big, because there are so many things in the Shou Shan Treasury."

He looked at the magistrate: "My mother-in-law said that the Shoushanku is really big, and the pressure is so great that even an old woman like her can't straighten her back. She can't even rest because everyone is looking at her, so she has to hold on."

"My mother-in-law said that the Shoushan Treasury is not big. If you are locked up in this vault, you will never be able to get out of the area of several tens of feet."

"My mother-in-law also said, I am tired and have been tired all the time, so don't be so tired. Go and seek fame, become an official, and enjoy the glory and wealth. Some people say that doing good deeds can accumulate virtue, and accumulating virtue will bring blessings. I don't want it, so I will give it to you.

"

The magistrate was silent, with his head lowered and his fingers trembling.

After a long time, the county magistrate said: "I will write you a letter of recommendation. You go to Yunzhou City. If this letter can be of any use, you can at least work as a pen official under that big shot...

"

He asked the boy: "Can you read? Can you write?"

The young man nodded: "Yes, but..."

But the last words were not spoken because the county magistrate stopped him.

The county magistrate patted the grave gently with his hand: "She must have never told you that I was also supported by her. I fell ill that year. If my mother-in-law hadn't saved my life and raised me for a year, where would I still be?"

, but she was never willing to say anything more."

The young man was stunned.

In fact, the county magistrate knows this because his mother-in-law once asked someone to send him a letter not long ago.

My mother-in-law said, I have raised hundreds of children, big and small, in the past fourteen years, but I only kept Yaoer, not for me to raise him, but for him to raise me.

The mother-in-law said that Yao'er has suffered for three years and should be divided into several hundred shares and given to you evenly.

The county magistrate said: "She said she would give it all to you, so she will give it all to you. She has fed hundreds of children and received hundreds of blessings. If you can get them, they are all yours. No one can doubt what she said."

.”

The young man no longer refused, because he looked into the magistrate's eyes and could not say any words of refusal.

The county magistrate stood up and patted the young man on the shoulder again: "If... I can do it, I would also like to kill her with my own hands. I have tried it. I have thought about it in my heart, and my heart is like a knife."

"Qiao, I lost to Xinrudaoqiao..."

The young man nodded: "I believe it."

Only the children she raised know how miserable she is. She always loves to be clean. That's because she said, I have to look decent.

You can't let people say, "Look, people who do good deeds and accumulate virtue are sloppy, have no appearance, and are not decent at all."

She also said, how can people who do good deeds and accumulate virtue be dishonorable?

The county magistrate had to write a letter of recommendation in front of this grave. He actually brought a pen and paper with him, obviously he had already thought about it.

But before I started writing, I was stunned and asked sideways: "My youngest, what name will you use in the future?"

The young man was also stunned, because he suddenly remembered that a year ago, his mother-in-law had just passed the pain and was lying on the bed exhausted. It was really ugly.

She may know that she doesn't look good, so she wants to find a topic to talk about it.

She said: "I am a Bodhisattva, do you want to listen to me?"

The young man nodded: "You are not a Bodhisattva, but I will listen to you."

The mother-in-law laughed, and she could still laugh. She said, "You are the only one who never regards me as a Bodhisattva."

The young man's original name was Ye Fuyao. The Bodhisattva said that the leaves are inherently light, but if they are swayed by a gust of wind, it is actually not good.

So she wanted to change the boy's name. She said, "Just change his name to Ye Zhiluo. You have to know how to fall when it's time to fall. How about that?"

The young man said: "Actually, it's not that the name is bad, it's mainly that the leaves are bad, so it's better to change my surname."

The Bodhisattva said: "Changing your surname means forgetting your roots, being disrespectful and unfilial."

The young man said: "I only said to change my surname. I didn't say that I don't want Ye anymore. Keep Ye and make a name. My name is Lin Ye."

People have never thought about what the world would be like without Bodhisattva.

The Bodhisattva is gone.

In the first month, someone came to keep the good treasury, and after taking things, they would return them.

In the second month, someone came to the treasury and took something but did not return it.

In the third month, everyone came to the Shou Shan Treasury to get things, not... but to rob, so the Shou Shan Treasury was gone.

It turns out that this is what it would be like without a Bodhisattva in the world.
