Special Containment Procedures: Each instance of SCP-871 is to be contained in a self-contained concrete cell, within which the 871 instance is to be placed on a metal table that is permanently affixed to an immovable wooden table.
In the flat plate.
All concrete units housing 871 individuals are to be monitored via closed-circuit camera systems every 24 hours, and every feeding is to be monitored every 15 minutes.
Once an instance of SCP-871 appears, three D-class personnel will be escorted by armed personnel to the unit where the new instance is located, where they will be locked with the new instance and ordered to eat the new instance.
.
This mission is not to be carried out for more than an hour. In the unlikely event that additional power is required under certain circumstances, termination of one of the D-class personnel is authorized.
Once the feeding task is completed, all participants are not allowed to leave the unit until they and the room have been carefully searched to ensure that no remnants remain.
The plate, table, and room should all be cleaned for the next instance.
D-class personnel who have been confirmed to have participated in feeding operations against 871 Entity may voluntarily participate in more feeding operations in the future.
Monthly terminations of D-class personnel who demonstrate special purpose will be deferred.
Such personnel are not allowed to have any contact with other SCPs under any circumstances.
No desserts of any kind are allowed in 871's containment facility.
Description: SCP-871 is the name given to the collection of 237 cakes.
The entities of 871 vary in appearance and size, encompassing the entire food group known as "cakes."
The smallest observed instance of 871 was a cupcake weighing only 15 grams.
The largest entity so far is a 22kg Baumkuchen, which is 2m tall.
When any 871 entity is eaten by a human or group of humans, it will reset after 24 hours with a similar piece of cake.
This piece of cake will appear on the surface of the plate closest to the location where the previous piece of cake was eaten.
If the cake is completely destroyed by any means other than being eaten by humans, including by non-human creatures, it will be reset immediately.
Entities appearing this way will retain the appearance of the previous entity.
The mechanism through which 871 is reset is still unknown.
It is currently observed that 871 individuals will "mute" over time. There are differences in the small characteristics of each individual. In about 5% of cases, the reset entity will be greatly different.
No toxic effects have been observed from ingesting 871, even when several instances of 871 are consumed at the same time, except for those expected adverse effects from eating too much cake.
The danger of SCP-871 arises from not being eaten in time.
All 871 individuals that have not been eaten within 24 hours will generate a new cake near them within 24 hours, just like its original "reset" behavior.
The original instance will exhibit the same traits, will instantly reset if damaged and will "reset" itself after 24 hours.
This behavior has been observed to occur when all material residues exceeding 10% of the mass of the original entity have not been ingested.
Because there is still no mechanism that can slow down the replication of 871, any 871 individual that is not contained will replicate at an exponential rate and will soon become uncontrollable.
Feasible containment procedures for the over 20,000 871 entities have not yet been proposed.
It is expected that an uncontrolled primitive entity would cover the Earth's surface within 80 days and render the Earth uninhabitable.
