Chapter 7 The Great Experiment

Principal Palmer's prediction was correct. In the next few days, the news about Sean's refusal to participate in the debate was mostly ridiculed in newspapers:

"Clowns and liars from the South!"

"Desert Sean Connery!"

"The victory of justice and truth - Sean Connery is timid!"

Amid overwhelming skepticism and criticism, Andrew Johnson sent over Sean's custom-made glassware, which were two glass flasks with movable necks. He returned 20 gold louis.

"You didn't spend a penny? How did you do it?" Sean asked.

"I visited many glass manufacturers and I told them that this would be a great experiment. Instead of just two ordinary glass bottles, they could engrave the manufacturer's name on the glass and receive it in the future.

With a large order, every scholar will have at least one." Johnson replied, "Finally a manufacturer agreed to make it for me for free. I think he is very smart."

"I think so too." Sean scratched half of the gold Louis on the table and gave it to Andrew, "You deserve this."

"Thank you!" Johnson didn't show any pretense. Xiao Si said again:

"Actually, I think your steamship could use an improved propulsion system."

"How to change the law?" Johnson asked.

"You can change the paddle wheel into a propeller, which is both stable and more efficient." Seeing that Andrew was confused, Sean drew a sketch with a pen and paper, "This is a propeller. Don't ask me what the principle is, I don't know.

"

"Is this a bold assumption and careful verification?" Johnson nodded, "This style seems interesting, I can try it. But it seems to cost a lot of money."

"Let's do this, I can invest some money for you." Sean said, "The premise is that if you prove that this propeller is indeed useful, then apply for a patent, and you and I will each share half of the rights."

"You just made a few simple strokes and you want to share half of my rights? But I was dealing with the machine day and night. Maybe after all the hard work, I found that I had taken the wrong path and gained nothing."

Johnson shook his head dissatisfiedly.

Sean smiled: "Andrew, I admit that you are right, inventing is a very difficult thing. But you have to know, what is a genius?"

"Are you reminding me that the person sitting in front of me and bragging to me is a genius?" Johnson looked up and said to Sean in a contemptuous tone.

"Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% sweat. However, the 1% inspiration is more important, because it makes the 99% meaningful. This is my motto for you. Isn't it right?

?" Sean laughed, "I heard that the brewers in Wengerburg are preparing a statue of me made of 200 kilograms of gold. This is the value of inspiration."

"Okay, how much are you going to invest?" Johnson felt that he should not argue with Sean, otherwise he would be mercilessly beaten by the other party. He was going to bargain over money. Who would be unable to deal with money?

"One thousand gold Louis! Don't bargain with me. I think three hundred is enough. This is because you are the first friend I met in Shengcheng." Sean held out a finger, "

If you agree, we will immediately hire a lawyer to draft a contract."

"Okay." Johnson nodded in agreement. He planned to spend all the thousand gold Louis within a month without leaving any money.

"Then I hope to see your project plan the night after tomorrow." Sean finally said.

"What is a project plan?"

"It's about how to promote this project, including budget and cost control. The most important thing is that every step of your plan must be implemented until it is completed. Don't think about cheating my money. I will let our lawyers keep an eye on every step.

."

"Well, you're really a loser for not being in business," Johnson complained.

"Now please send these two custom-made retort glass bottles to President Palmer of Holy City University. As you said, a great experiment is about to begin - an experiment I have known since I was six years old."

"Since you don't want to be there in person, can I complete this experiment for you? I'm excited just thinking about it." Johnson's face was filled with eagerness.

Sean stretched and said, "Aren't you afraid of being embarrassed?"

"I think a person whose inspiration is worth 200 kilograms of gold is totally worth my investment," Johnson said.

"You are speculating, but I like it!"

In the laboratory of Al-Quds University, President Robert Palmer convened a committee to meet here.

The 30-member committee is composed of naturalists, biologists, chemists and several medical school professors.

Principal Palmer has not yet arrived, and the committee members have gathered in several small circles to discuss. Among them, the naturalist Babia Duby is the most active. If you don't listen to his harsh words, his appearance is very exciting.

Closeness:

"So, that Mr. Connery is a liar and a coward. He dare not come. Some people may say that the merchants of Vengerberg took out bright gold, but everyone, we are discussing science.

, Wengerberg’s wine experiment only showed that bacteria or microorganisms were the direct cause of spoilage.

Regarding this point, our late scholar at Al-Quds University, the distinguished Mr. Khomeini, has already stated this in his works. I think our second lieutenant has obviously read Mr. Khomeini’s works, so he is based on

Based on what you have learned, suggest the causes of sourness in wine.

This is plagiarism, this is theft!

But please note that Mr. Khomeini also said that it cannot be proven that the bacteria was brought in the air, so it is very likely or 100% that it occurred naturally."

Professor Duby's argument has many supporters in the committee, although at least half of them disagree with it. However, as he said, it is impossible to experimentally prove that bacteria are brought from the air.

"Mr. Palmer is here!"

A waiter announced loudly. All the committee members stopped talking and paid attention.

President Palmer walked in, followed by a young man carrying a wooden box. Some of the medical professors recognized that it was Andrew Johnson, a medical student - a guy who was not doing his job properly.

"Everyone, good morning! Regarding the wine incident, it has been going on for some time, and everyone has participated in the discussion. In view of the scientific significance of this matter, I think it is necessary to conduct a public trial." Principal Palmer said.

"But that amateur scholar has become a deserter." Someone shouted.

"Haha, the word 'amateur' is used wonderfully!" Everyone laughed.

Palmer raised his hand to signal everyone to be quiet and said: "Mr. Sean Connery designed an experiment. I think this may be able to prove whether his point of view is correct or not."

At his signal, Andrew Johnson took a deep breath and took out two retorts from the wooden box.

Outside the laboratory, reporters who heard the news crowded at the door and stretched their necks.

In full view of the public, Johnson was a little nervous and almost accidentally broke the glass bottle when he was cleaning it.

Pour the yeast solution into two retort bottles and heat it to boil at the same time. After cooling slightly, remove the movable retort neck of one of the bottles, leaving the other bottle as it is.

"Is it over?" everyone asked.

"Of course!" Johnson shrugged, "We will know the results in a few days."

In fact, as soon as these two retorts were taken out, the position of many committee members was shaken, because theoretically, this retort is designed to allow natural air to enter without allowing microorganisms to enter. If the retort is retorted after a few days,

If the yeast liquid in the bottle is not putrefied, but the other one is putrefied, it can completely prove that bacteria exist in the air.

There was no result on the spot, and the committee members present had their own thoughts, some were silent, some appreciated, and some still expressed doubts, including Professor Babia Dubi.

The reporters outside were disappointed. The professors refused to publicly express their opinions before the results came out to avoid being slapped in the face. They had no choice but to catch Andrew Johnson and ask what happened.

Andrew Johnson really became famous and took the opportunity to promote his steamboat.

Sean moved out of the Golden Oak Hotel because he could foresee the sensation that would follow.

It was just a simple experiment, one he'd known about since he was six years old - from the children's edition of the Encyclopedia, of course.
