(25) Showdown (Sean Temple, II)

Sean gritted his teeth, turned around and ran into the fortress.

When it was a matter of life and death, everyone was mobilized. The priests used magical enhancement spells on the soldiers who were about to rush to the front line one by one, without sparing their own physical strength; the logistics personnel and handymen who stayed in the castle,

They also picked up swords and shields.

Of course, they were left in the safer upper levels of the fortress - after all, fighting was not their forte.

Thanks to the rigorous training, the members quickly formed a team. The enemy did not give them time to complete their arming, and there was no need to think about horses in the fortress. They just quickly put on the chain mail shirts that covered half of their bodies, and carried the weapons for starting the battle.

Long sword or warhammer, then form a formation, move forward——

Sean glanced at the on-guard logistics team and continued to rush to the lower level of the fortress. On the way, he encountered three mercenaries who entered the area rashly and were killed by him without mercy with a swing of his sword.

Things were more troublesome than he expected. The skills of those mercenaries were far less than his, but they possessed extraordinary strength and speed. What was even more frightening was that the wounds caused to them would heal at a speed visible to the naked eye. Sean

It took a lot of effort to behead them one by one.

He judged that the effect originated from a divine spell - just like the light that continued to radiate from their bodies, but he could not identify its exact source.

"——Hey, what happened?——Hey?! Damn it, some bastards who are greedy for merit!"

Sean almost thought that another enemy appeared, but he immediately realized that the sound came from one of the corpses. He squatted down and took out a palm-sized rectangular cube from the corpse's arms - that's where the sound came from.

Before he died, the man seemed to be shouting something like, "Come for support, we can't stand it anymore!"

"I'm afraid Mark and those guys are doomed! Listen to the rest of the team. Greeding for credit and rushing ahead will lead to death. Don't forget what the commander-in-chief said! Leave those tough ideas to the commander-in-chief and——"

Sean threw the device against the wall with all his strength. It hit the hard stone wall and shattered into pieces.

He felt particularly uneasy. When did the enemy have such equipment? And there seemed to be a lot of them. Could it be that afternoon? No wonder the "Wolf Shepherd" wanted to get rid of the spies arranged by the Knights among the mercenaries. That man

...Have you anticipated this moment from the beginning?

He quickly came to the lower level, and what he saw was already a hellish scene.

The pungent smell of blood permeated the entire passage, and the bluestone floor and walls were covered with blood. Broken limbs and broken arms could be seen everywhere. The warriors of the Knights lay scattered on the ground, many of whom had lost their lives. The attackers also left behind

Some corpses were found, and Sean estimated that the number was less than one-third of the dead members.

The soldiers stood back to back, fighting hard in the narrow passage. Many of them were facing more than one enemy, or were being attacked from both sides——

"how so……"

At the corner not far away, two team members were engaged in a fierce battle. Sean rushed over, and dazzling lightning exploded from his palms, blasting the mercenaries surrounding them into a scorch. The two knights seized the opportunity and dug their swords deep into the ground.

Stab deeply into the enemy's chest.

The remaining two people planned to retreat, but the sharp blade in Sean's hand swung past with a scorching red light. The blade was like cutting through butter, easily cutting off their heads from behind.

The two knights were seriously injured and could barely stand against the wall, but Sean couldn't care less.

"What happened! Where are the others?! Where is Isaac!" He grabbed one of them by the shoulder and asked hurriedly.

"I don't know..." The knight gasped, and the blouse on his chest was soaked with blood. "They are like invincible zombies... and they seem to be more familiar with this place than us... other people

They have all been dispersed...The legion commander is probably organizing them..."

It's those damn devices - Sean understood this instantly. Things have gone to the extreme: the geographical advantage no longer exists, the members are not properly armed, and even Mal's mother has abandoned them. Plus that terrible

Man——Even if the Knights still retain the will to fight, he can't think of any chance to turn defeat into victory.

Holly Castle is finished.

And does this foreshadow the future fate of the Black Crow Knights——?

On the surface, the Knights are far from broken. They still have a huge territory, thousands of manors and castles, nearly 10,000 members, and even several times that number of reserve members, employees and farmers. But Sean

Understand that for the carefully planned imperial coup, everything may just be a piece of cake.

Just like this time, they fell into each other's calculations from the beginning.

Use mercenaries to make them careless; set up a defensive position to capture their fear of losses and choose to stick to it; use unknown means to undermine their confidence in victory - and when the other party is ready to attack, they discover that they have been

Relying on not falling behind the barriers is actually just a joke.

Sure enough, I still failed to fulfill my duty as the leader. In this case, let him die in this battle together with the others.

Followers of Mar never fear death.

Sean threw back his blood-stained hair and held the sword in front of his chest. He softly recited Mal's prayer, letting his anger and regret gradually turn into a calm fighting spirit.

"There is birth and destruction, there is no destruction and no birth -"

However, a familiar, cold and soft voice interrupted his prayer.

Alaya quickly approached with a mithril rapier in hand. Blood dripped from the tip of the sword to the ground. Her silver hair was stained with red spots, and there was a bright red spot on her shoulder. She was obviously injured. Three knights - two

A woman, a man, followed behind her, her hair disheveled, and she seemed to have gone through a fierce battle.

"Grand Commander, you should remember the location of the secret passage in the castle." She said expressionlessly, "Luni, Jane, Sears, you leave with the Commander."

"Are you kidding me!" Sean glared at her, "The leader of the Black Crows does not want to live in an ignoble way! For the sake of those who died, and for those who are behind me, I must——"

"No." The silver-haired woman interrupted him, "I will stay because I have to take responsibility for my subordinates. And you have to leave because - you need to take responsibility for the entire Black Crow Knight.

group."

She walked closer to him, raised her head and stared at him. For a moment, the swords and shouts of death around her seemed to have faded away, leaving only the cold voice of the silver-haired woman.

"We still have a large number of territories and members. You must continue to lead them and do your best to protect them. What's more, why is the Knights targeted? Mother Mal, and has she really abandoned us? Only you, the leader

, is the best person to find out these things.”

Sean swallowed and stared at her face.

"That is really a difficult task." He said with a wry smile, "I'm afraid it will take me a lifetime to complete."

Moreover, I want to seek justice for you. He silently added this in his heart.

The silver-haired woman was stunned for a moment, then lowered her voice and said, "Actually, Captain... No, it's nothing."

She shook her head slightly and closed her mouth. Sean wanted to ask more questions, but found that it was no longer necessary - the other party's eyes said everything.

Footsteps were heard from the far corner. There were four enemies in total, approaching them cautiously. One of them was looking into the palm of his hand, whispering something.

"Time is limited, go quickly." The silver-haired regiment commander turned his back, "There is nothing to be tired of in life, and nothing to be afraid of in death. I wish you the best. Goodbye, commander."

She raised her rapier and faced the slowly approaching enemy. There was no hint of fear in her voice, "Black crow, immortal."
