(28) The Journey (Euphistein Mitz, III)

About an hour later, the ferocious bear 'Ruth' stopped next to a wide tree hole. The tree hole was covered with soft leaves and was about two meters in diameter. It was not enough to accommodate the body of the female bear. It must have been her.

The children's residence.

"She" stuck her head in, looking for something in the empty tree hole, and occasionally let out a low and sad roar. Lin comforted "her" softly from the side.

The damage caused by the bear here was not great. The female mercenary did not spend much effort to find the traces of the group of poachers and quickly chased them in the direction of the traces. Grace the griffon flew to the top of the tree, from

He scanned the situation ahead with his head overhead.

It was extremely quiet in the forest. Occasionally, the wind blew through the treetops, and the sound was like a low cry, but disappeared in an instant. Yuffie let herself float in the air, and Lin held her hand, leading her to follow Lily closely.

.

She did not choose to fly. The current situation was quite strange, and she had to save every bit of energy she could to cast spells.

Bell was panting heavily and complained that the female mercenary was walking too fast - but judging from his breathy voice, it was clear that he still had some energy left. Alphonse was also floating a few dozen centimeters above the ground.

At a high place, the body tilted forward slightly and slid quickly against the ground. A soft blue light enveloped its body, slowly flowing along with a faint buzzing sound.

"They're just a bunch of rookies." Lily curled her lips, her voice a bit disdainful, "There are no traces of eradication at all, and the marching formation is also a mess. We alone can defeat them all."

"They seem...to be running away, right?" Lin looked at the footprints on the ground, seeming a little confused, "But why is the direction towards the depths of the forest?"

"This is the function of the maze." Yuffie replied, "Anyone with malicious intentions will get lost here and walk to the nearest border guard tower without knowing it."

"And then," Alphonse asked, "what will happen to them."

"Then I don't know." Yuffie shrugged, "Of course the Erna people won't be friendly to the intruders, but they probably won't kill them."

She let go of her friend's hand, fell to the ground, and stroked a mulberry tree that was no longer bright. From the decayed bark, she felt a vague magic power, starting from the depths of the trunk,

Connected to other tree trunks in the distance, it is like a huge magic net, turning the entire forest into a life.

However, the magic net that should have been pure and clear was also tainted with an abnormal aura. Yuffie tried to analyze those abnormalities, but she could not gain anything except a sense of malice. With her current ability, she wanted to understand

I'm afraid it's still too early to figure out the structure of this maze.

She opened her eyes and saw that the others had stopped, waiting for her to say something.

"The maze has been changed. I don't know what the specific changes are." Yuffie shook her head slightly and tried to look in the direction where the footprints extended, but the shadowy woods and the mist-like darkness obscured her vision.

Sight, "There may be something worse than poachers ahead...be prepared, everyone."

"It doesn't make any difference to me!" Bell grinned, "Anyway, if you come one and chop one, if two come, I'll chop a pair!"

The female mercenary rolled her eyes at him and walked to the front of the team again. Yuffie held Lin's hand and tried to keep up with the pace of the female mercenary.

Maybe she needs to exercise her physical fitness if she has a chance, she thought to herself. I heard that Dean Collens is not only good at spells, but also good at close combat.

The footprints continued to extend inward along the forest. As time went by, even Yuffie could see that the footprints were becoming more and more messy, which seemed to prove that the person who left the footprints was in a panic.

The chill around her had dissipated at some point, and the returning warmth made her feel more comfortable, but not reassuring. A moist mist began to fill the air, carrying a faint rancid smell, further obstructing her vision.

As they advanced, the mist turned into a thick fog, limiting the range of all light to ten meters. What was even more troublesome was that the originally soft soil under the feet was unknowingly replaced by a softer and moister swamp.

The dry trees are far away from the field of vision, replaced by caresses and reeds about half a meter or even higher. Under the soft grass are puddles of varying sizes, and the shallower ones are just for getting shoes or trouser legs wet.

And those that are deep enough may be enough to reach a person's head.

Bell accidentally stepped into a pond full of putrid muddy water, and almost disappeared into it with his armor. The machine man quickly caught him and pulled him back to the ground, but it was inevitable that he would be covered in mud.

.

The female mercenary could only slow down and let the Beron people strictly follow her route.

"This is simply the worst place I've ever been!" Bell panted in shock and complained in a low voice with dissatisfaction. The mud and stench on his body had been cleaned up by Yuffie using magic, but it was still wet.

The clothes obviously hurt his morale, "I will never come again next time!"

The only one who seemed very interested here was Lin. She jumped around lightly, landing just in the right position every time, making the female mercenary look sideways. Yuffie was still floating in the air, holding on to Alphonse's hand.

Move your arms forward.

"Originally there was no swamp here." She explained, "There is a lot of rain here, but most of the water will pass through the soft soil and form underground rivers, and the rest will be absorbed by the trees. Moreover, even if the trees die, the soil will change

, it will take at least more than a year to form a swamp of this level."

"So, the spell directly created this area?" Lin turned her head to look at her without stopping at all, "It sounds so interesting..." She suddenly closed her mouth and grabbed Lily who was walking in the front, "

It seems like... there's some noise?"

The female mercenary made a gesture, and everyone fell silent. Alphonse fell to the ground, and the magic and buzzing sound that enveloped him slowly dissipated.

"Help...help...is there anyone..."

The erratic cry for help, which seemed to be that of a young woman, came from not far away, and was particularly clear in the silence. The female mercenary stopped, grabbed Bell, who was about to rush over to check the situation, and looked at Yuffie with questioning eyes.

Yuffie twirled her hair and thought for a moment, then looked up at her blond friend, "Lin, is there a way to temporarily dispel the fog?"

The blond girl smiled, raised her head and took a breath. The next moment, a dazzling golden line of fire came out of her mouth and swept across the fan-shaped area in front, instantly evaporating the dense fog.

Through the fresh air, Yuffie saw a woman with long silver-green hair, half of her body trapped in the swamp. She lay back on the mire, seemingly unable to escape on her own. The girl observed her carefully for a few seconds.

Zhong cast two more simple detection spells, but found no problems.

No matter how she thought about it, the possibility of abnormality accounted for the majority - even so, she could not turn a blind eye to it. Giving up action because of possible danger was definitely not the quality of a qualified wizard. Of course, too reckless actions must also be taken.

avoid.

So she winked at Lily.

The female mercenary let go of her hand knowingly and patted the eager Beron man on the shoulder, "Leave it to you, Bell!"
