Short story [as always]

"Your shoelace has fallen off." On the way to the canteen after class, a classmate next to me reminded me.

I looked down and saw that the shoelaces were untied. This was the first time today. I was already used to it. I told him to wait a moment, then I knelt down and started to tie my shoelaces again.

"By the way, why do your shoelaces keep falling off?"

Hearing this question, my hands that were tying my shoelaces suddenly froze, and I looked up at the distant sky with a deep gaze: "That was a long, long time ago..."

——

It was indeed a long, long time ago. It has been so long that even the protagonist of the story, I can only remember the word "she", and even the voice and smile have been forgotten in the depths of my mind.

She was my deskmate in elementary school and also my neighbor. I was born only three hours older than her, so when I grew up a little, I regarded myself as my elder brother all day long, but she never agreed, but I couldn’t bear to look at her.

But I couldn't refute the expression. As a young person, I was really excited, even though I was often bullied by her...

That's right, the so-called childhood sweethearts are exactly like that.

"Hey, I'll lend you my homework...check it out." One day, she and I were doing homework together at home, and she actually finished it before me, and she was about to go watch some cartoons that were on the air. I was so surprised by this.

I feel itchy and unbearable, but there is nothing I can do about it. I always get distracted in class, so my academic performance naturally cannot improve.

She put her homework back deep in her school bag: "I won't give it to you!"

"Then I'll just wait for you next time." I used my trump card.

Hehe, she has excellent character and academic performance, but she has a weakness, that is, she is quite clumsy. The shoelaces she just tied can be loosened within a few minutes. For this reason, I waited for her on the way to school... But

That happened before. Ever since I discovered that I could use this to blackmail her, I have never waited for her for free again.

"No, five times... no, ten times!" She hesitated, "And next time you want to treat me to strawberry cake!"

"Ah~ today's homework is so simple, I'd better do it myself..."

"Ugh..." She was so anxious that she looked like she was about to cry. "After thinking about it carefully, the strawberry cake is not delicious at all, and my mother said that eating sweet things all the time will cause tooth decay, and..."

So, homework gets!

Her handwriting is just like her character, juanxiu and shy, at least it is much prettier than my dog-crawling handwriting. The Chinese teacher praised her handwriting and composition a lot.

"Humph, if you are so stingy, you will definitely not be able to find a wife in the future!" She muttered in a low voice when she handed me the homework, but unfortunately it still could not escape my ears.

Originally, I happened to be given pocket money today, and I planned to go out with her to the cake shop across from my house to buy some snacks after finishing my homework. But I was not happy when she said that, and I decided to make her angry.

"Let's go." I quickly finished my homework and said to her who was still reading the advertisement.

"Eh? Where are you going? The cartoon will start soon?"

"Let's go eat cake, ah... By the way, just now you said it wasn't delicious, so I'll leave first, bye~" I packed my schoolbag and made a show of leaving. She immediately hugged her with lightning speed.

My thighs stared at me with big eyes, looking pitiful... Well, I really can't stand her looking like she's about to cry every time, so I think girls are really troublesome.

Patted her head and said, "Let's go."

"Yeah! I knew you were the best to me!" She shouted excitedly, jumped up and gave me a big hug.

To this day, I still remember...

"If you can't find a girlfriend in the future, I can help you out of my way."

"No, you're stupid and you love to eat. Whoever you marry will be unlucky!" I made a face, "Besides, I don't know how to tie my shoes!"

"You... hateful!"

Huh, a gentleman talks but doesn't do anything. Before she gave me a heavy blow, I just yo-yoed.

I have heard that one encounter in this life is due to five hundred looks back in the past life; I have heard that one acquaintance in this life is due to a thousand encounters in the past life; I have heard that the fate of this life is due to thousands of lifetimes.

of...separation.

"Ah, my shoelaces fell off, please wait for me." My shoelaces also fall off often, but compared to hers, the number of times is much less, and she will stand beside me every time, quietly

Waiting quietly for me to tie my shoelaces.

Only this time, I didn't notice that this was the middle of the road.

The harsh roar of the car's brakes was heard in my ears, and the next thing I felt was her weak but determined strength, and the last thing I saw was her petite figure flying like a kite.

She told me that she wanted to fly freely in the sky;

She told me that she wanted to eat strawberry cake;

She told me that she wanted to be with me forever;

She told me: "I'll wait for you."

Why did you push me away? You could have just run away! Did you make a mistake? It was me who made the mistake, not her!

"Hey, hey... From now on, you don't have to wait for me, and you don't have to worry about being late... Don't cry, you should be happy..." She was still smiling silly as usual, and I wanted to pick her up and run away

hospital, but I was too weak to do this. There were all kinds of noisy sounds around me, but I could only hear her voice.

"I will wait for you, once, ten times, or countless times... I will always wait for you, so... don't leave, okay..."

She smiled even more happily, like the snow lotus blooming on Tianshan Mountain, but I never waited for the good word to come out of her mouth.

I still remember the warmth of that embrace.

So every time I tie my shoes, I deliberately relax a little. Every time I tie my shoes, it feels like she is still waiting for me.

Just like before.

"So if you don't know how to tie your shoes, just say so, okay?"

PS: This was written out of my head before. It’s less than 2k words and it couldn’t pass the short story review. I can’t think of a good name. If anyone reads it, can you help me think about it?
