Chapter 1 Everything starts with disappearance

Mai Fan's grandfather Mai Mantun has disappeared.

Right under Mai Fan's nose.

What happened started five minutes ago, when Mai Manton was busy in the kitchen.

In order to celebrate the inauguration of the eldest grandson Mai Fan tomorrow, the dishes prepared by grandpa are very rich.

When Mai Mantun picked up the whisk and put four or five thin-skinned and large-sized swallow-skin wontons into the bowl...

‘Bang!’

With a crisp sound, the fence fell directly to the ground.

Mai Fan, who was placing bowls and chopsticks in the dining room, heard the noise and pushed open the kitchen door, only to see a bowl of steaming wontons, a handful of ravioli that fell on the ground, and the empty space without his grandfather.

's kitchen.

"Master? Mr. Mai? Uncle Mai? This is not fun! Stop making trouble?!"

His grandfather was usually pretty cool, but he never joked about his own safety.

Mai Fan anxiously searched up and down the small kitchen to make sure there were no sudden black holes or inexplicable cracks. After that, he immediately turned around and ran towards his grandfather's room.

It was a weird room, and to Mai Fan, everything about that room was mysterious.

Mai Fan's grandfather fiddled with many weird gadgets from nowhere and kept them in this room.

Some of these strange and eccentric items look like antiques from an older generation, while others look like products of high technology. Some of them are even covered with mysterious totems and carved with inexplicable symbols.

When he was young, Mai Fan once broke in accidentally and was immediately dazzled by Linlang on the book shelf.

But before he had time to appreciate it, he was grabbed out again by his grandfather who returned in a panic.

From that day on, there was an extra padlock outside the door of this room.

The curious Mai Fan tried to open the very simple padlock many times...

But the lock, which looked like a joke, was like an iron wall blocking his way to explore the secret.

Now, he can try it confidently.

Mai Fan, who was running like a gust of wind, was already standing at the door of the mysterious room.

At his feet was the usual tool box at home.

The tools he had tried for this lock before were all small, and now he could finally get started with breaking the lock.

Who would have thought that as soon as Mai Fan pinched the lock, the originally indestructible lock suddenly opened with a snap.

'Click'

Along with the lock, there is also the slightly mottled door.

Mai Fan was a little hesitant, he pushed forward, and the door opened with a creak.

The sun shines into the room, and what comes into view is the still chaotic world.

This room has more bookshelves than before, and the collections on the shelves are denser.

There are high and low shelves intertwined together, which may seem a bit messy at first glance. However, if you look carefully, you will find that they are half old and half new and are easy to find.

But no matter how many rare items there were on the shelves, they didn't catch Mai Fan's eyes.

Because in the middle of the stacked shelves, there was a lonely table, which was particularly conspicuous.

It was an ordinary desk, with the atmosphere that people of the older generation love most.

There is a round pen holder on the table, and a notebook is spread out in the center.

This table, Mai Fan swore, did not exist when he broke in when he was a child.

Maybe this is the reason why his grandfather disappeared inexplicably.

With this thought in mind, Mai Fan came to the table and opened the ordinary diary.

As soon as he got it, Mai Fan noticed something strange.

This is a very old diary. When you open the inside pages, only a few words are written on the first page. The remaining pages are blank and look brand new.

There is an address written down on the first page.

‘No. 521, South Street, Zhongding Village, West Tieying’

This address is very close to Mai Fan's home.

But Mai Fan is very sure that No. 521 has never existed on Nan Xiao Street in Zhongding Village.

That street is a dead end, and the house at the end of the alley is only number 8.

Maybe...just an address isn't enough.

Mai Fan's eyes moved to the three drawers on the desk.

He needs more.

'Swipe'

The three drawers were opened one after another, and there was a key lying flat in the middle drawer.

Brass, long handle, old style, very much like something from the Republic of China period.

Mai Fan picked up the key and placed it on the first page of the diary.

There is an inconspicuous dent on the page, and it is aligned... It can be confirmed that it is the mark caused by pressing the key.

Mai Fan carefully searched under the table again to confirm that there were no more clues. Then he put the diary and the key under the creaking nest. He didn't bother to look at the rare objects next to him and left his grandfather's room.

.

Oddly enough, as soon as Mai Fan left, the padlock half hung in front of the door clicked and was locked again.

When this strange thing happened, Mai Fan had already reached the intersection of Zhongding Village in Xitieying.

Zhongding Village is a street filled with time.

Ancient trees cover both sides of the road, and there is a green brick road in the middle.

In this alley, which is not too long, all that remain are single-family courtyards.

Behind these small courtyards are tall buildings that reach into the sky.

It seems that only this street is special and has been well preserved.

In Mai Fan's mind, this is more like a place for memory retention.

The houses here are all bungalows, and there are problems with heating, power supply, and even the Internet and a series of modern facilities. As a result, the occupancy rate in this alley has not increased much because of the beautiful environment.

This is a place for peek-a-boo.

When Mai Fan was a child, he once ran to the end of this alley and tried to climb over the wall to avoid being chased by his grandfather.

But the result was not wonderful. Halfway through, Mai Fan turned over and his pants got caught on the iron hook on the wall. They hung on the wall for a long time until someone passed by and he was freed.

"How could there be a number 521 here?"

Mai Fan, who was already standing at the end of the alley, was stunned when he saw the shabby house that suddenly appeared in the middle of the alley.

Isn't it a ghost?

"There really is a number 521 here!!!"

Mai Fan looked at the street lights above his head. It was not dark enough to be haunted.

He looked at this shabby house that was inexplicably crooked... as if it was about to collapse after blowing a breath, and found that the door that looked like a piece of rotten wood also had a large rusty lock hung on it.

"What is this?" Mai Fan took a step forward and tentatively inserted the key into the keyhole...

The lock opened with a 'click'.

He then pushed the toe of his shoe against the door panel, and the door squeaked open.

'Cough cough cough...'

The smell of dust in the dilapidated house was very strong. It must have been that no one had cleaned it for many years.

The layout inside is simple and clear at a glance.
