5. Dazai, Guobei County

Dark clouds gathered in the sky, and the roaring sound was endless.

Han Qiu carried a pile of dead wood tied with a bundle of dead grass stalks on his arm.

He had just picked up the dead wood branches and was about to leave when several beams of black and purple light came to him one after another. When he turned around, he saw that the vegetation around him was rapidly withering and decaying. But he couldn't see anything.

At that moment of the autumnal equinox, he knew that tonight, he would encounter ghosts and gods alone for the first time since leaving Guobei County.

The last time I saw something so weird was ten years ago...

Han Qiu Equinox was only five years old that year.

Five-year-old Han Qiufen was sensible very early. He knew that he was abandoned, and the person who took care of him was Mr. Wei. Han Qiufen respected and loved his adoptive father, but he also expected that his parents would be there.

He came to find himself in an abandoned earth temple.

During the day, he went to help other people around him, and they gave him meals. When he went home at night, Mr. Wei cooked for him. Occasionally, he went back to Tutu Temple to stay one night.

Until that night, a man in white came to the temple and became the first person from outside Guobei County that Xiaoqiu Equinox met.

Mr. Wei was afraid that the Autumn Equinox would be harmed, so he went to the dilapidated Earth Temple late at night to see him.

That night, the night wind blew slowly and the stars and moon shone brightly.

Mr. Wei was holding a lantern in one hand and holding the other behind his back. He watched the man in white approach him step by step and said something to himself with a smile.

"People who like me,

people who don't like me

They all call me,

Dazai.

Are you satisfied with this answer?"

Mr. Wei looked at his smile but could not feel the warmth, because there was no human emotion in his eyes, there was just a dead silence, like ice that would not melt.

That is from that

After that, Mr. Wei never bothered to go to Tutu Temple to meet his big friend on the autumnal equinox.

Because no one he knows can stop what this person wants to do, so it is better to just let nature take its course.

In the days that followed, Dazai appeared in Han Qiubun's childhood life.

He would meditate or do some weird movements for several hours every day. During this time, Equinox could only wander around in boredom, doing nothing.

Until he got too bored, Han Qiubin began to imitate him, imitating his movements, and spent several silent hours with him.

Dazai lived in this abandoned earth temple in Guobei County for about a year, and he gradually fell in love with this child who had a rough life experience.

Play with him, take him to eat chicken legs and mutton pot.

Bullying him, taking off his pants in front of girls and everyone, and deliberately knocking him down while meditating during the Equinox. Then he joined other people who laughed at the Equinox and laughed with them.

This year was of great significance to the autumnal equinox, because that year, he learned that there were things in this world that mortals could not see.

It was an autumn day, and under the mottled wall outside the Earth Temple was a circle of cracked bricks and exposed earth.

The terrain of the Tutu Temple is high, and several layers of broken stone steps connect the Tutu Temple to the earth below.

The sunlight shone on Dazai's face. He squinted his eyes lazily, put his hands behind his back, and looked up to enjoy the autumn sky.

Xiao Qiu Equinox sat next to him with her little head propped up, looking at the ground, wondering what she was thinking.

Dazai glanced sideways at the child beside him, smiled at the corner of his mouth, and shook his head. The hair behind him was as black as ink, loosely tied with only a dead grass leaf, and was swaying from side to side following his movements.

Winter is coming after autumn, and at the autumnal equinox, I am watching a group of ants on the ground carrying food towards their nests.

He was fascinated until a pair of big warm hands appeared on his head.

"Um?"

"Autumn Equinox, let me ask you, do you know what an immortal is?"

Han Qiufen shook his head. He only knew that the statue in the temple was the Earth God, which seemed to be the god among the people in Guobei County.

"Humans, with the power of mountains, they are immortals."

Han Qiubin thought about this sentence for a while, then nodded in understanding.

Seeing the child's reaction, Dazai couldn't help but rub his head vigorously.

"If you don't understand, ask. I told you a long time ago."

The Autumnal Equinox is not upset, just smiling.

"Yes, if you are too lazy to ask, then answer all the questions and let the answers reveal themselves. I have said this too, right?"

"Um."

A cloud suddenly floated over the heads of the two people sitting on the steps outside the temple, creating a shadow for them and blocking the sun.

"Hey! Let me ask you another question on the equinox."

With his five fingers pressed against his face and his white palms facing the sky, as if to block the sun, Dazai turned his face slightly and asked with a smile.

"If one day, you,

Do you want to be an immortal?

Or a human?"

Qiu Equinox was stunned for a moment, opened her mouth slightly and was about to reply.

The white palm suddenly grasped it fiercely at that moment, and then let go. Dazai shook his shoulders and put his hands behind his back again, supporting himself on the ground.

At the same time, the clouds in the sky dispersed, and the bright sunshine returned to the two of them again.

"Don't worry,

Until then,

you are watching,

How to choose.”
