Chapter 28 The Young Secretary Wearing a White Rose
Rear Admiral Hans Seckter of the Kingdom of Braden woke up early in the morning and received a letter from Prime Minister Baron Sistine.
"Some bastard leaked our secrets!" the Prime Minister cursed viciously in the letter.
This time, the Prime Minister's handwriting was much more sloppy than before, and he even poked several holes in the letter paper, obviously using very hard strokes.
Even through the letter, Major General Hans could clearly feel the Prime Minister's raging anger.
The full content of the letter is as follows:
"I was attacked by the opposition in the House of Commons today. The reason why I was shocked was that some bastard had leaked our secrets.
"Hans, I have never told anyone except you about the delivery of the magic cannon prototype. So I doubt whether there are spies of the New Party hidden among your men.
"I need you to investigate! Investigate me thoroughly! Find out the traitor who leaked the secret at all costs! I will cut him into pieces and make him pay the price!"
Major General Hans read the letter carefully three times, word by word, and then tore it into pieces.
Then he raised his head, looked at the secretary standing next to him, and asked:
"Can you give me the latest newspaper?"
"Of course." The secretary smiled and complied.
Major General Hans's secretary is named Daniel, a young man who has just been transferred from the capital.
He has handsome features, a quiet and elegant temperament, fiery red hair, and likes to wear a white rose on his chest.
Although Major General Hans didn't like his feminine appearance and dressing style, and felt that it was incompatible with the masculinity that a soldier should have, he had to admit that this secretary was very serious and efficient, and could always put everything in order.
Everything was well arranged, which made him very worry-free.
Since he can do his job well, Major General Hans doesn't care about his little quirks.
Soon, the red-haired secretary Daniel handed the latest issue of the Braden Morning News into the hands of the major general.
Major General Hans lowered his head and saw rows of shocking bold headlines:
“Reporter Rodgliosi’s exclusive report: The Prime Minister bypassed Parliament and Her Majesty the Queen and privately instructed the Rear Admiral to transport magic cannons across the country. What exactly is his intention?”
"The Prime Minister was besieged by the new party in the House of Commons, but members of the old party remained silent collectively?"
"The Minister of Maritime Affairs confirmed: Three magic cannon prototypes disappeared from the warehouse, and the Prime Minister was actually the culprit!"
“Shocking Reveal: The Secret Relationship Between the Kingdom’s Prime Minister and the Rear Admiral.”
"..."
While Major General Hans was reading the newspaper, his face became gloomy little by little.
The Prime Minister's letter was correct. The information that only the two of them knew in theory, such as the model of the magic cannon, the time of loading onto the ship, and the specific itinerary for transporting the magic cannon... has been completely disclosed and has become
A fact known throughout the kingdom.
But Major General Hans disagreed with the Prime Minister's suspicion.
Since deciding to secretly cooperate with the Prime Minister, Major General Hans has been very cautious in doing things, even to the point of exaggeration.
He never told anyone the full plan.
Every subordinate involved in the plan is just a tiny screw, only responsible for a very small and simple part of the work. The warehouse managers don't know what the magic cannon will be used for after it is taken out, and the porters don't know what they are doing.
No matter what is being carried, the driver of the cargo ship also has no idea what is being carried on his ship...
They simply can't see the whole plan from one tiny piece of the puzzle.
Even in the understanding of these people, transporting magic cannons is just a part of their daily work and does not deserve too much attention at all.
As for the complete plan, as well as the letters exchanged with the Prime Minister, Major General Hans was locked in a private safe.
No one knows this safe exists.
Oh, except one person.
That person is his new secretary Daniel.
Daniel had only arrived at the Alexandria Naval Base for a few days and was not familiar with the rules here. He had a young man's curiosity about all the new things around him.
One day, when Daniel was organizing documents for Major General Hans, he accidentally saw the safe hidden under the desk.
"General, what's in this box?" When speaking, Daniel's eyes were bright and his tone was polite and sincere.
"Secrets," Major General Hans replied calmly, "It's not something you should know anyway."
"Feel sorry."
After hearing his words, Daniel silently stepped back and asked no more questions.
After that, they never mentioned the safe again.
Of course, Major General Hans did not think that Daniel was the one who leaked the news.
Because this safe requires two keys to open.
A key is placed in Major General Hans's own home.
The other key is carried by the Major General himself at all times.
Major General Hans was very convinced that these two keys could never be touched by anyone except himself.
Moreover, this safe has been specially treated by the alchemist and will automatically alarm if there is any magic fluctuation in the surrounding area.
This means that even if a magician comes to the door and wants to use lockpicking magic to force open the safe, he will not be able to do it.
And ordinary people like Daniel are naturally even less likely to open the safe.
All in all, Major General Hans decisively excluded Daniel from the list of suspects without much thought.
"Who revealed the secret?"
Major General Hans was deeply troubled by this.
He knew that if he could not find the suspect, the Prime Minister's suspicion would fall on him.
But as the saying goes, good fortune never comes in pairs, and misfortune never comes alone.
Just when the major general was most troubled, secretary Daniel appeared next to him again and handed a document to him:
"General, this is my resignation. Please approve it."
This is the eighth resignation letter received by the Major General today.
"You want to resign?" After hearing his words, the major general was like dynamite being ignited. He could no longer restrain his violent emotions. "After reading the newspaper, did you feel that I am not worthy of being your superior?"
"No," Daniel shook his head, his eyes as clear and sincere as ever, "General, with your loyalty to the country, how could you possibly do such a thing as treason? This must be an unfounded frame-up by a villain.
"The reason why I asked to resign is because my family has an urgent matter in the capital and urgently needs my help. I cannot refuse. General, please forgive me, I must leave Alexandria."
After hearing this, the major general opened his mouth slightly, scolded, defended, persuaded... Thousands of words came to his mouth, but in the end he swallowed them back and said nothing.
After a moment of silence, he picked up the pen on the table, glanced at the white rose flower Daniel wore on his chest, and then signed his name on Daniel's resignation letter.
"Young man, go back and stay away from this muddy water. You still have a long way to go, and you shouldn't be involved in this kind of thing."
Daniel accepted the resignation, bowed deeply to the major general, and then hurriedly turned around and left.
Major General Hans slumped in his chair, watching Daniel's back gradually move away until he disappeared at the end of the corridor.
Those who are traitors to the country will betray their relatives and alienate them.
The sun in Alexandria was still bright, but the Major General's heart was as cold as winter.
