Chapter 47: Peace and Prosperity

In the evening, Howard sat next to his desk, lit the kerosene lamp in front of him, and quietly read several copies of the Braddon Morning News placed on the table.

"...Recently, the Church of Light sent its knights deep into the Far North Icefield in an attempt to launch a new round of encirclement and suppression of the heretics in the Dark Temple. Under the wise guidance of the Archbishop, after a fierce battle, the knights of the Church of Light successfully defeated the pagans in the Dark Temple.

The followers of the evil god set up a trick to burn down their temple dedicated to the evil god.

"From now on, the entire Braden Kingdom will be completely shrouded in the light of the goddess and will never be eroded by darkness. The citizens of the kingdom will no longer have to worry about threats from heretics.

"Praise the goddess! Praise the Archbishop! Praise the Knights of the Church! This is the greatest victory we have ever achieved!"

"..."

Seeing this, Howard frowned slightly. He knew that as a believer of the Church of Light, he had been baptized by the Church of Light since birth, so he should be happy about such news.

But out of some intuition, he always felt that the Dark Temple with its long history could not be completely wiped out so quickly.

Those exaggerated words of praise are like a layer of paper lies, delicate, false, fragile, and easily broken at the first glance.

With such doubts, Howard turned the page of the newspaper and continued to read the news behind it.

"...After consultation between the Archbishop and Her Majesty the Queen, the trial of the former Prime Minister Baron Sistine will be held in Hagia Sophia one month later. At that time, Archbishop Nerga will preside over the trial.

"Baron Sistine, as the Prime Minister of the Kingdom, secretly colluded with the Kingdom of Ferrand with the intention of harming the national interests. At the same time, he slandered the Church of Light and damaged the reputation of the Archbishop and the Pope. Once the crime is confirmed, he will be severely punished and will never

forgive.

"At the same time, the results of this negotiation show that our beloved Her Majesty the Queen still stands on the same front as the Church of Light. She is a devout believer of the Goddess of Light because the goddess granted her power, and because the Pope crowned her, she has jurisdiction

The power of this country. Those claims that the Queen has a bad relationship with the church are just rumors. Under this agreement, they will all be self-defeating.

"Praise the goddess! May the light always protect Her Majesty the Queen! May the light always shine on the Kingdom of Braden!"

"..."

After reading this, Howard closed the newspaper.

As an insider of the entire incident, Howard naturally understood that this news was a completely fabricated lie, published in order to distance the Prime Minister's treason case from the Church of Light.

It seems that everything is peaceful in the Braden Kingdom, the light shines on the country, and the darkness completely collapses. Under the wise leadership of the archbishop, all potential threats have been completely eliminated; the church and the royal family live in peace, and the people are under the goddess's guidance.

Live and work in peace and contentment under shelter.

But is this really the case?

Unknowingly, he couldn't help but think of what Allen said, "The real light is never when there is no darkness, it is just never covered by darkness."

If there is no darkness in this world, can light still be called light?

After a moment of silence, Howard stood up and left his room.

Today, Archbishop Nerga will hold a victory celebration at Hagia Sophia. As auxiliary bishop, Howard should attend such a grand event.

All the priests gathered in the church hall.

In addition, there are a large number of believers: men, women, rich, poor, elderly, children...all gathered here.

Because there were so many people, the spacious church hall seemed small and crowded at the moment. Everyone stood shoulder to shoulder, pushing each other, and could even smell each other's sweat. They squeezed all the way to the stone steps outside the church.

, lined up on the gravel road outside the church, from the candlelight of the church to the blue moonlight.

However, under the statue of the goddess, there is a relatively spacious area reserved for Archbishop Nerga.

The archbishop was wearing a luxurious robe and a bishop's crown today. He openly greeted everyone's pious and respectful eyes and became the focus of today's attention.

Seeing such a scene, Howard did not squeeze over to steal the archbishop's limelight. Instead, he chose to stand in the crowd and be a quiet bystander.

After everyone had arrived, the Archbishop waved his hand gently and transformed a light curtain in mid-air.

Soon, a hideous face with red skin, bald head, no eyebrows, bat wings, and scars all over the body appeared on the light screen. He was glaring at the believers present with greedy and bloodthirsty eyes.

The believers gasped in unison.

The young female believer standing next to Howard screamed, her expression full of disgust and fear.

They all know that this monster is the evil God of Darkness. He is crazy, cunning, cruel, and bloodthirsty.

Under his guidance, his followers were equally brutal and terrifying. In order to serve the gods they believed in, they would kill civilians, defile women, and then snatch away newborn babies as sacrifices to feed the evil gods they believed in.

.

Sure enough, a group of weirdly dressed cultists soon appeared on the screen.

They gathered around a strange-looking altar, singing unknown songs and dancing unknown dances. On the altar, a dozen babies were tied up, making sharp cries under the burning fire.

As soon as this scene appeared, the believers present could not control their anger and began to shout loudly.

In their eyes, the God of Darkness at this moment is undoubtedly the most terrifying demon.

He is fond of killing people and constantly devouring human lives. His heart is as ugly as his appearance, and his followers are his powerful accomplices, trying their best to complete his plan to destroy mankind and the world.

Without the protection of the Goddess of Light and the heroic struggle of the Church of Light, this plane would have long been reduced to a feast of darkness.

When the babies in the light curtain were scorched black by the fire, the crowd present completely fell into a state of madness.

One after another they jumped to their feet, yelling and shouting frantically: "Devil! Demon! Demon! Demon!"

The girl next to Howard closed her eyes, not daring to look at this horrific scene, but she roared along with everyone.

The old woman behind Howard silently clasped her hands together and prayed devoutly to the goddess of light, hoping that she would severely punish those cruel evil god believers.

But the one who reacted most violently was the five-year-old boy in front of Howard.
