Chapter 159: The pulpit: Buddhist and Taoist debates

Two days later, Jixia Academy.

After getting permission from Emperor Pingle and the Queen Mother, the Buddhist sect set up a lecture platform in front of Luojian Lake.

This is a round tower building. I don’t know what kind of means Samantabhadra used to build it in just two days.

And around the lecture platform, there were futons placed one after another.

The students from Jixia Academy and the disciples of the royal clan rushed over early and sat on futons one by one, waiting for the start of this grand event.

As the time approached, representatives of various schools of thought began to appear in front of the lecture platform one by one.

The first person to arrive was Han Shen, a representative of Legalism.

The current prime minister behaved extremely tolerantly today and showed no power at all to influence the government and the opposition.

He just sat in the front row of futons with a smile on his face, and kept nodding to the students and relatives around him.

Behind him were several Legalist students.

Later, the representative of the Yin Yang family arrived, the current national master Meng Xingchen.

Today, Meng Xingchen is wearing a special costume that shows off the Yin Yang family. Behind him is a young man wearing a cuckold, who is Gargamel.

Meng Xingchen also acted very low-key, sitting on the futon with a smile.

Then, hundreds of schools of thought all appeared on the stage.

A total of seven people from the Taoist sect came today, including six of the seven disciples of the Taoist sect, and Jiang Chenshui, the youngest genius of the Taoist sect.

Of course, there was also someone invited - Jiang Chaoge.

Jiang Chaoge did not represent any family. He simply came to watch the fun. Because of his relationship with Wu Lingzi, he naturally sat next to Daomen.

And then, he saw Princess Ying Luo Yu.

It seems that Luo Yu did not come to the meeting on behalf of the royal family today, but on behalf of the miscellaneous family.

Because in front of her was not Emperor Pingle and the Queen Mother, but an old man wearing a white robe, with a gray beard and a rather rosy face.

"It seems that this is Luo Yu's teacher?"

Jiang Chaoge had heard some rumors.

In the palace of Da Qin, there is a top master of the Za family hidden, but this master will not show it to others easily. I didn't expect that today would come.

Then, Jiang Chaoge saw several great Confucians representing Confucianism.

Fang Xiaojing walked in the middle.

There are six in total.

From this point of view, it can also be seen that among the hundreds of schools of thought, Taoism and Confucianism are indeed different from other schools, with many disciples and disciples.

"The Sword Comes"

However, Meng Liang, who represented the military strategist, was not present today.

Because he had already rushed to Nanshi City on the front line of the Southern Territory, the representative of the military strategist was Bai Xing, the head of the Bai family, and Bai Mei was following Bai Xing.

To Jiang Chaoge's surprise but not surprise, Ji Ruxue also came.

Wearing a long black and white dress, her beautiful face and her unique extraordinary grace naturally attracted the attention of the students of Jixia Academy.

Finally, there are Mo Jian, the head of the Mo family, and Mo Ling and Mo Su, the deputy heads of the Mo family, as well as farmers, doctors... and so on.

At this point, hundreds of schools of thought gathered in Jixia.

Jiang Yu'er also came to the lecture platform and sat in the camp of Jixia students.

However, the Master was not present today.

Jiang Chaoge knew that the current master was making tea on the top of Shushan.

Hundreds of scholars gathered together.

Emperor Pingle and the Queen Mother arrived by car by coincidence.

Hundreds of Royal Guards were escorting two luxurious vehicles in a separate area to the east of the lecture platform, and no one was going to get close to it.

Emperor Pingle and the Queen Mother did not step out of the chariot, but hung bead curtains in front of the chariot.

When these two people arrived, everyone knew that this grand event that had lasted three hundred years was about to officially begin.

As for the person who presided over this grand event, it was naturally the Buddhist Samantabhadra Bodhisattva.

This Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, wearing a bright yellow cassock, sat at the top of the lecture platform, with two bright eyes open and scanning the people below.

"Today, I, the Buddhist sect, have set up a lecture platform in Jixia. If everyone has any ambiguity in my interpretation of the Buddhist scriptures, you can ask questions at any time."

After Pu Xian finished speaking, he pointed his right hand towards the lecture platform.

Everyone looked over and immediately saw Buddhist classics on the lectern.

Samantabhadra began to explain: "This time, my Buddhist sect came from the Western Regions and also brought the essentials of my Buddhist scriptures. If you want to take a look, you can read them at any time."

"Amitabha!"

A Buddha's name is pronounced.

Under the lecture platform, hundreds of ascetics were sitting and standing, all with solemn faces.

Immediately, a young monk walked out from the bottom level of the lecture platform.

His face is extremely fair and his face looks very kind. He is holding a string of Buddhist beads in his hand.

"The poor monk is empty and good."

He made a Buddhist salute to everyone: "I have preached the Dharma in the Western Regions, and have traveled ascetically in the Central Plains for ten years. Today I came to Jixia. I want to communicate with everyone through 'Zen skills', and I hope you can teach me!"

This is a Zen practitioner.

It takes two different routes from the empty phase.

The empty phase belongs to Buddhist monks, and the four realms are Vajra.

And this meditation is for three realms, and the realm is - ascetic.

Seeing Buddhism, someone came out.

Everyone's eyes naturally fell on the Taoist gate.

After all, Taoism had already stated two days ago that it would be the first to take the stage to argue with Buddhism.

So, Jiang Chenshui stood up from the futon, quickly walked to Kongshan, and bowed to Kongshan with Taoist etiquette.

"Taoist disciple Jiang Chenshui pays homage to monk Kong Shan." Jiang Chenshui said in a nonchalant manner: "Since this is a Buddhist lecture, please tell me the rules."

"Shan." Kongshan nodded: "The poor monk has been practicing asceticism in China for ten years. What he has seen and heard is the suffering of the people's livelihood. Today Kongshan wants to debate with Taoist Jiang about the way to relieve this 'suffering'. I don't know.

Is that possible?"

Want to argue for a way out of suffering?!

Such questions are actually not common in the debates of various schools of thought.

The students in Jixia and the clan disciples are naturally a little curious. After all, in a sense, this question has the meaning of 'derogatory'.

Because only unfair governance can cause suffering in people's livelihood.

Of course, this is not a problem for Jiang Chenshui. He belongs to the Taoist sect, and the Taoist sect has separated from Jixia three hundred years ago. There is nothing that cannot be defended.

Therefore, Jiang Chenshui quickly nodded: "Okay."

When Kongshan saw Jiang Chenshui nodding, he smiled and began to ask the question: "Five years ago, I passed by a village. There was an old man in this village. This old man was of pure character and had a ox at home.

Because he only knew how to farm hard every day, although the old man's life was difficult, he was still able to live in Hukou. But one day, the old man bumped into a son of an official family in the market, and was accidentally bumped into by the son of an official family.

I had a fall and was bedridden after I got home.

Seeing this, the scalper miraculously developed spiritual wisdom. One night, he avenged the old man and ate the official's son in one bite. He also took away the official's son's money and cured the old man's illness.

But after all, this matter could not be hidden from the government. As a result, the government came to arrest the person. In the end, the old man was put into a cell and the murderous scalper was beheaded."

When Kongshan said this, he clasped his hands and said, "I would like to ask Taoist Jiang, do you think this matter is a hardship for the old man, a scalper, or the official's son?"

Jiang Chenshui frowned when he heard this.

Other Jixia students were also talking about it.

Because this matter is simply impossible to judge.

From the old man's point of view, it was naturally painful for him to be injured by an official's son and then sent to a cell.

From the scalper's point of view, it avenged its master and was then beheaded... Such loyalty can be regarded as hardship.

In the end, from the perspective of an official's son, he just accidentally injured the old man, but ended up being eaten by scalpers... The punishment was considered too severe, and it was considered a hardship.

"I think the old man suffers the most!"

"The scalpers are the ones who suffer the most, right? It's rare to see scalpers like this who are smart and know how to repay kindness."

"He's just a commoner. As Kongshan said just now, the official's son just accidentally injured the old man, not intentionally. Why should he pay for his life?"

Everyone expresses their opinions.

Kongshan listened to the discussions around him, but looked at Jiang Chenshui calmly: "Taoist Master Jiang, how do you answer?"

Jiang Chenshui hesitated for a moment, and finally gritted his teeth and replied: "In the story of Zen Master Kongshan, the old man, the scalper, and the officials' children all have their own sufferings, but the poor Taoist thinks that since these sufferings are all three, naturally there is no one."

There are no distinctions between severity and severity, so Pindao believes that all three are suffering!"

"Haha, I didn't expect that Taoist Jiang has some connections with Buddhism, because what Taoist Jiang answered is exactly the meaning of my Buddhist scriptures - all living beings suffer!"

When Kongshan heard this, a bright smile broke out on his face: "In terms of my Buddhist teachings, all living beings in the world are born in suffering, and the purpose of my Buddhist teaching in the Western Region is to save all living beings from suffering. As long as there is something in your heart,

Buddha, one day you can be reborn in bliss!"

grass!

Jiang Chao Ge's mouth was so full that he didn't know whether he should vomit or not.

This Kong Shan is actually playing dirty tricks!

On the surface, he was telling a story, but in reality, he was setting a huge trap for Jiang Chenshui.

Because, in this story, it is impossible for Jiang Chenshui to give an 'accurate' answer. Whether it is saying that old men are more miserable, scalpers are more miserable, or officials' children are more miserable, it is impossible to satisfy everyone.

.

Therefore, only by saying that all three are suffering can we get other affirmations.

But this would be tantamount to directly recognizing the Buddhist concept of "all living beings suffer".

"Sure enough, this is a world where old shady people are running around. Even Buddhist debate is full of such shady old methods... They are just fucking shady people!"

Jiang Chaoge looked at Jiang Chenshui.

At this time, Jiang Chenshui's face was extremely gloomy, and his fists were clenched tightly. It was obvious that he was a little angry now, but he had nowhere to vent.

When the Jixia students and clan disciples sitting around heard this, they all knew that Jiang Chenshui had already lost the first question.

"This empty kindness has kindness in its name, but it is not kind at all in its heart." Huo Lingzi had a bad temper and started to scold him without holding back.

Feng Lingzi could only wave his hand: "Since it is a Buddhist and Taoist debate, it is natural to talk about winning and losing. If you have the means and don't use it, then you are incompetent."

"But, is this method too shameless?" Huo Lingzi was still a little unhappy.

"Let's see again." Fenglingzi sighed.

Representatives of other schools of thought also came to their senses at this time.

Although it seems that the Taoist family has been tricked, in fact, through this first question, everyone has already seen that Buddhism attaches great importance to this debate.

This is obviously intentional!

Luo Yu then looked at the old man next to him: "Teacher, if you were to answer this question, what would your answer be?"

"You evil disciple, do you want to trick the teacher into a trap?" The old man gave Luo Yu a cold look: "Do you think I am that Jiang Chenshui and would be fooled like this?"

"Hahaha, the teacher must be smart. Are you just making a metaphor? This is just the first question. The Buddhists are well prepared when they come to the Western Regions. Do you think the second question will be easy?"

"..." The old man fell silent.

Because, as Luo Yu said, the Buddhist sect is obviously well prepared this time. If the Taoist sect is really defeated, how can the Za family respond?

The most important thing is that Buddhism only teaches the three realms of meditation now...

The real big names are still sitting on the pulpit!

Jiang Chenshui was tricked.

It's impossible to be convinced in your heart.

When Kong Shan saw that Jiang Chenshui didn't reply, he knew that he had won this question.

Instead of continuing to ridicule or promote Buddhism, he bowed to Jiang Chenshui again and said: "Since Taoist Jiang has a heart for Buddhism, the poor monk came here to ask the second question. I wonder if Taoist Jiang is ready?"

"Wait." Jiang Chenshui stretched out his hand to stop him.

"Oh? Taoist Jiang, what do you have to say?" Kong Shan looked at Jiang Chenshui in surprise.

"Since this is a debate, there should be questions and answers. You have already asked a question, so naturally it is my turn to ask." Jiang Chenshui said coldly.

"Understood." Kongshan nodded: "Then let's ask Taoist Jiang to ask questions."

Jiang Chenshui bit her lip gently.

His eyes glanced at six of the seven Xuanmen sitting on the futon, and finally, his eyes fell on Wu Lingzi's face.

Seeing Wu Lingzi nodding towards him, Jiang Chenshui finally felt relieved.

Then, he began to think.

How to treat others in their own way and treat them in their own way.

He also wanted to use a story to set a trap for Kongshan in order to regain the face that Daomen had lost. However, just when he was about to speak, a voice suddenly sounded in his ears.

"A calm mind is beneficial, while a dry mind is dull. Taoism emphasizes governance by doing nothing, letting everything take its course, rather than being affected by external things."

who is it?!

Who is talking to me?

Jiang Chenshui's eyes suddenly widened.

"It's your senior uncle, Jiang Chaoge!"

"..."

The sound was heard again.

Jiang Chenshui's face turned red suddenly, and then he instinctively looked at Jiang Chaoge, who was sitting next to Wu Lingzi with a smile on his face.

Jiang Chaoge also nodded to him unceremoniously, and at the same time said in a colloquial manner: "What are you looking at? I'm helping you, otherwise you will lose!"
