Chapter 9 The Misunderstood Unknown

In this complicated and mysterious valley, 042 finally found some clues. They were vigilant all around. They were not afraid of the enemy. They were just worried that they could not protect this man in the melee. After all, he was the only person with whom they could communicate.

.

The only sanity in this valley of madness.

042 took out a potion from his pocket, which might be able to help this dying man.

Perhaps because he had suffered great pain before, the man showed no resistance to the violent injection of 042. He lay paralyzed on the ground like a dead man, with only the slight rise and fall of his chest announcing that he was not dead yet.

As time passed, the potion took effect, and the man's breathing became violent, which made him feel much better. He looked at the cold demon hunters with muddy and collapsed eyes.

"You...who are you?"

There was fear in his voice.

042 is now covered in armor, with firelight flashing under the pitch-black faceplate. In this depressing environment, all that is given to people is unknown fear.

"The people who came to save you." 042 answered briefly, "So tell me, what is going on here?"

The man didn't seem to listen to 042's words at all. He spoke very fast, as if something was chasing him.

"Stranger...stranger!" His voice became sharp, which made 042 look very unhappy. He didn't want some strange things to be attracted by the man's voice.

"You...are from outside?"

The panicked pupils continued to expand, forcing the only whites of the eyes to the edge of the eyeballs, and the entire eye sockets seemed to be darkened.

"Outside?" 042 listened to his words, then nodded, confirming this.

But after seeing 042's affirmation, the man became even more crazy. He tried to struggle, but was choked tightly by 042's strong hands.

"You are demons! You are demons! Sure enough, the Pure Land has fallen!"

042 Cover the man's mouth fiercely and make him speak as quietly as possible.

Very well, the most troublesome step in the work of a demon hunter has arrived. Ordinary people will go crazy after facing extreme fear, and it is usually very difficult to find any information from the mouths of these madmen.

042 did not comfort the man, but showed a fierce expression on his face. He raised his nail sword and said fiercely.

"Yes, I am a devil, and your last pure land has been captured by me... But as long as you answer my questions, I will allow you to live, is it clear?"

"No no no..."

The man wailed, but 042 was not polite at all. The nail sword was slightly lowered, leaving another shallow wound on the body that was already riddled with holes.

"Of course you can refuse, but what awaits you will be the cruelest punishment."

011 seems to disapprove of 042's approach, but his concern is not about intimidating the man, but about 042 frightening the only clue at present to death.

But obviously, this man's consciousness was not bad, or his desire to die allowed him to temporarily control his panic. He breathed violently and tried his best to stabilize his heartbeat that was almost exploding.

After a long pause, he nodded with difficulty as he was pinned to the ground.

"Very good, then the first question... In your eyes, what is happening to the outside world?"

042 asked from a side perspective, he needed to understand the world in this man's eyes.

"Destroyed...completely destroyed. Those demons finally escaped from their prison and completely destroyed the mortal world."

The demon hunters looked at each other. The destruction of the world seemed like what the Final Society could say. It was basically confirmed that the entire Valley Town was under the control of the Final Society.

But the question is where does everyone's strange sense of oppression come from? It is similar to erosion, but different, and it constantly increases the psychological pressure.

"Then why do you say that the Pure Land has fallen?"

"Because...because they come...everywhere..."

The man's words were frantic and difficult to distinguish.

But it seems that this is not a pure land talk. It’s not that people can’t come in, but that most of the people who come in are killed by them. It seems that the reason for the isolation of the entire valley town has been found. It’s not just a matter of terrain, they

Controlled by the Society of the End, the group of magicians separated this place from the real society and established a cruel pure land here.

"You are not afraid of demons, then..." 042 looked at the corpse he killed on the other side, "Why is there still killing?"

The Society of the End pursues death, the destruction of all things, and ultimate nothingness.

Therefore, everything related to them will eventually die, but 042 needs to know what they are doing with these deaths at this moment, and whether it is related to an unknown force that the demon hunter does not yet understand.

"We will die, we will all die, but if we die here, as long as we go through the ceremony, we will ascend to heaven." The man's voice sobbed, even a little difficult to distinguish.

"Does that mean that after some hellish ceremony, your souls can ascend to heaven?"

042 I didn’t expect it to be like this.

"You won't understand, this is true..."

Seemingly seeing the mocking look on 042's face, the man said repeatedly, but then he seemed to have thought of something and screamed.

"Yes! You have to stop me! You have to stop me!"

He shouted, and the struggle became more intense, "I can't die here, I want to die in the ceremony, and I want to ascend to heaven!"

042 said in a bit of a bad way.

"If you have money, I can forgive your sins as a priest."

He held the man down tightly. It was obvious that the brainwashing of the Final Society was very successful, and these residents believed it.

But 042 still feels that something is wrong. As long as these people have some intelligence, they may not make the situation deteriorate like this. So how on earth did the Terminus Society achieve all this without borrowing the power of demons?

"042!"

011 suddenly shouted eagerly. It seemed that he could only shout out 042's name for a short time, but it was enough.

042 knows the danger is coming, but protected by armor, the only thing he has to think about now is where the danger will come from.

But sometimes this is not a danger.

The man struggled hard, as if he had absorbed all his strength, and he escaped from 042's hands. Even though he was cut by the nail sword, he didn't care, and his figure was shaky.

They started moving at the same time. They couldn't let the man leave just now, but suddenly there was a roar, and a spear-like weapon was thrust out from the fog outside the window. It hit the man directly, piercing him and nailing him to death.

Everything happened so fast, 042 hurried to the man's side and questioned him.

"What is this so-called ritual?"

But the man answered him.

"This is the ritual!"

The distorted face was filled with peace, as if this was not death, but a gift.

042 suddenly understood that the so-called ritual is death, death that occurs in Valley Town. This is the reason why those lunatics are not afraid of death. What they originally wanted to do was die, death in Valley Town.

"After death, you will be promoted to heaven...what the hell." 042 said angrily.

"No... pay attention to his words, die here." 016 pointed to the land under his feet. The problem lies in Valley Town.

011 did not participate in the discussion. He stared at the window where the spear was pierced. There were people walking around behind the fog, perhaps the remaining madmen, who wanted to undergo the death ritual through the witcher.

But as he got closer to the window, the pressure in 011's heart increased. He seemed to have seen something, and the determined demon hunter also felt a strange panic.

"042...it's coming..."

In 011's eyes, the twisted weird thing behind the fog slowly walked towards the building. 011 could not distinguish its appearance, as if its weird body was engraved with symbols that were difficult to see directly. The demon hunter could not judge it.

form, one can only feel the fear originating from it.

"Is this the end of the story?"

Kestrel sat on the side of the house, looking at the horrified demon hunters.

"Yes, but don't have too many expectations. Excluding those weird parts, from a third-party perspective, the ending is actually quite cliché."

Lorenzo said calmly, looking calm.

"But you said it is very special and important." asked the robin.

"Indeed, this incident made me realize something very profound."

Lorenzo stood up and walked to the window to look at the strange thing in the mist with the witchers.

"Many times, when you begin to understand the 'unknown' and give it an understandable concept, the 'unknown' is no longer the original 'unknown'."

"You were misled and misinterpreted at that moment."
