1565 Battlefield Control

On the Higgs 5 defensive position, the remains of dozens of puppet robots were scattered in the broken trenches. Shattered sandbags were scattered everywhere, some were damaged, and the sand and soil inside had leaked out.

The fully automatic anti-aircraft gun turret has been disabled, and there are huge craters and countless bullet holes penetrated by energy rays left on the thick cement walls. It looks a bit desolate in the end of the world.

The originally majestic turret lost power and had already emptied its ammunition chain. Empty ammunition boxes were scattered everywhere, and there were puppet robots lying down among the bullet casings everywhere.

The tunnel exit hidden behind dense vegetation has now been exposed, and huge digital signs can be seen on the open thick cement door.

This used to be Exit 07, but now it has become a ruin, a lifeless ruin.

On the other side of the gate, a missile launch base has been completely emptied. The missile launch vehicle originally deployed here has left, leaving only one launch vehicle that was scrapped by the bombing and remains in its original position.

.

Its jack is still supported on the flat ground. The missile launch box may have been hit by energy cannonballs. It is covered with explosive bullet holes, and a section has been blown away into the distance.

The wires of China Unicom's launch vehicle are scattered on the ground and have long been neglected, and the hydraulic rod is already rusty. From these traces, it can be seen that it has been abandoned here for several days.

Inside the tunnel, a clone grenadier from the Airanshir Empire was holding a weapon, leaning against a parapet made of sandbags, sorting out his ammunition.

The outer positions have been lost, and now they can only persist in fighting in the tunnels extending in all directions underground.

Fortunately, there is plenty of ammunition here, as well as various bunkers, and there is no need to worry about rain or wind. It looks like a good battlefield.

Just a few minutes ago, they lost their outer positions and were forced to retreat here for defense.

Everyone knows that the defense here cannot last long, because the enemy can also dig into the tunnel from other directions, and no one knows from which direction the opponent will launch an attack.

But fighting is fighting. Even if you know you will die here, you must fight here until the last moment.

Outside, a sweeper soldier climbed up the slope, jumped into the trench, and vigilantly inspected the situation in the trench.

It was not until the second sweeper also climbed into the trench that these watcher troops seemed to be sure that their enemy had withdrawn from here.

"They have left!" the sweeper who was the first to enter the trench said to his companions.

The third sweeper who fell into the trench had already begun to climb up, and the following sweeper soldiers also began to advance towards their respective targets.

Several sweepers had already climbed up to the long-abandoned bunker. The bunker had been hit directly, and most of the shooting holes were blocked by the collapsed roof.

Less than an hour ago, the soldiers of the Airanshir Empire were still using this remaining shooting hole to continuously shoot at the sweepers, but now there are only some abandoned corpses left there.

In the past, the soldiers of the Airan Hill Empire would take the corpses away, leaving as little as possible any material residue such as bullet casings.

But as the battle became increasingly fierce, no one was in the mood to care about those bullet casings and corpses.

Although the Sweepers can reproduce by devouring corpses and artifacts, everyone knows that compared to the speed of annihilating enemies of the Elanthir Empire, the Sweepers' reproduction speed is actually not worth mentioning at all.

Now both sides are relying on logistical supplies to support the battlefield of Higgs 5. The difference is that the defenders of the Airanhill Empire rely on hoarded supplies, while the Guardians rely on the huge space fleet behind them.

"There are no enemies here!" A sweeper passed by his companion who was eating the remains of the puppet robot and shouted to the soldiers behind him.

Many sweepers are cleaning up the corpses of their companions in front of the position. They will eat everything and leave nothing behind.

This is actually a way for them to recycle energy. As long as their offensive makes progress, they can recycle part of their resources for subsequent operations.

Just like a new energy vehicle, you can use the rotation of the motor to recover part of the energy and increase your endurance.

In fact, this is the benefit of offensive operations, because the attacking side can treat the wounded, recover its own weapons and equipment, clean the battlefield and seize the enemy's supplies, while the repelled side can get nothing.

Because the side that loses control of the battlefield has no time to clean up the battlefield, they are bound to lose more.

In the past, the Ilanthil Empire had been restraining the Watchers, preventing them from cleaning the battlefield, devouring supplies, and gaining the advantage of relying on war to support war.

Therefore, the previous Watcher troops fought in a relatively awkward manner. They could only rely on reserve support and could not obtain supplies from the battlefield. The reason was simple, because they were always the one being repelled, so they could only watch the bodies of their companions dissipate.

, watching the enemy carry away the corpses and scrapped materials and equipment.

As the battle continued, the Empire of Elanshir, whether it was staged or real, finally began to lose control of the battlefield.

This is undoubtedly a good thing for the watchers. They can finally reduce their own losses and pass these losses on to the other party.

As for the ground defenders of the Airanhir Empire, who were gradually losing control of the battlefield, they were actually a bit stretched.

For a planet, the garrison strength of millions of troops is actually completely insufficient. Therefore, the defense forces of the Elanshir Empire abandoned two-thirds of the planet's surface from the beginning.

There is no other way. If hundreds of millions of troops are stationed on a planet and a large number of defensive weapons are deployed to prevent the other party from landing, what if the other party blows up the planet due to a disagreement?

Wouldn’t that make me want to cry without tears? A huge amount of investment was wiped out by a single Star Destroyer Cannon. How could it be considered that the loss was ruined?

Because of this, until the two sides fought and decided to use Higgs 5 as a bait, the Elanshir Empire did not plan to deploy heavy troops here.

Finally, a sweeper discovered the thick door with numbers painted on it, climbed to the door and began to nibble on the edge of the door with his special mouthparts.

In the eyes of the soldiers of the Elanthir Empire, these sweepers were no different from locusts, and the way they gnawed was exactly like insects.

Soon, a second cleaner came over and started chewing on the cement as if he were eating vegetables.

Then more cleaners rushed over, lying on the door and chewing it, making clicking sounds.

Finally! A sweeper forgot himself after eating and walked into the somewhat dim tunnel. He saw the polished steel rails under his feet and the sleepers arranged neatly.

So he was about to bend down and eat these delicious foods. When he squatted down, a gunshot echoed throughout the tunnel.

"Bang!..." Because of the length of the tunnel, the sound of the gunshot did not dissipate for a long time, but echoed back and forth, as if someone had fired another shot.

The sweeper who was leaning down to eat the rails fell down on the rails after the gunshot and made no sound again.

The remaining sweepers did not hesitate and poured into the tunnel from the door, running wildly in the direction of the gunshots.

At the same time, the energy cannons on their shoulders also fired suddenly, shooting out black shells.

"Boom!" The huge explosion blew away a section of the parapet reinforced with sandbags. A puppet robot hiding behind the sandbags reached out with a weapon and fired a row of bullets at the sweepers in the distance.

The tracer bullets were particularly conspicuous in the slightly dim environment. The light yellow light passed through the darkness and hit the sweeper directly, splashing a blood mist.

"Thud, tug, tug!" The clone grenadiers also picked up their weapons and began to fire wildly. The bullets of the electromagnetic rifle were denser than the bullets of the assault rifle, and they defeated the enemies rushing in in an instant.

"Retreat! Retreat!" The grenadier, knowing that it was not advisable to stay here for a long time, immediately ordered the robot around him.

After he shouted, he picked up his weapon and ran quickly towards another defensive position not far behind him.

Several grenadiers and puppet battle robots beside him immediately ran backwards after him, while the remaining puppet robots continued to fire and attack to cover the retreat of their companions.

Soon a ball of energy hit a puppet robot that was firing, and a huge explosion blew his body away.

Frequent explosions echoed throughout the tunnel, and the echoes at least doubled the intensity of the battle.

The last puppet robot was blown away by the incoming energy bomb, and the defense line where it was located was finally completely occupied by the Sweeper soldiers.

These soldiers climbed over the parapet that had been blown into pieces and began to eat the corpses of the puppet robots scattered behind the parapet.

Suddenly, a sweeper seemed to realize something and immediately turned around and shouted to all his companions behind him: "Don't come over!"

Along with his shouts, the engineers of the Airan Hill Empire in the distance pressed the switch of the detonator behind the bunker with a ferocious smile.

"Boom! Boom! Boom!" A series of explosions spread throughout the tunnel. All the bombs that had been buried in the tunnel were detonated, directly collapsing the dome and drowning all the sweepers below.

This section of the tunnel and the exit were also buried at the same time. The falling gravel and dust almost buried alive the Airan Hill engineers who pressed the detonator.

"It's okay now!" A clone grenadier held his weapon, shook his head to shake off the dust on his head, and said to the equally embarrassed engineer beside him: "They can't get in."

"This can only stop them for a while. They will dig a tunnel from the side and then infiltrate into our hinterland along the tunnel."

"It doesn't matter. Isn't our mission to blow up all the tunnels?" The grenadier looked at the exit that had been completely blocked by boulders and said with a smile.

"Let's go! Get out of here! Remember to take the detonator!" The grenadier helped pick up a piece of wire and said to the engineer beside him.

Soon, puppet robot soldiers came forward to help carry detonator batteries and other supplies.

Let the puppet robot carrying the ammunition box go first, followed by a few clone grenadiers, and soon the group arrived at the hastily established third line of defense.

If they keep walking along this road, they will soon reach an underground barracks, where there are tunnels extending in all directions, connecting further places.

Andre looked at the holographic projection on the table. He had lost one-third of his preset position. This was actually not good news for the defenders.

Not all directions are defended by elite troops. The experts from the reinforcements are already stretched thin, and it is impossible to support the entire ring of defense.

This resulted in the defense line in Andre's hands being very secure in some places, while in other places it had been breached a lot.

For a commander, the general way to deal with such a situation is to organize a counterattack, recapture those defense lines that were lost prematurely, and maintain the integrity of the defense line.

But the problem is that the opponent will eat up the entire permanent defense line. If such a line of defense is recaptured, it will actually be of little use.

"Send the reserve force in this direction! We can't let it retreat any further. If we retreat further, even our airport will be in danger." Andre rubbed his chin and ordered.

"Yes! General!" the adjutant stood at attention and saluted, promising Andre: "The commander in charge of the defense over there has promised that they will not take another step back."

"Very good! Let them continue to hold on! Don't be discouraged!" Andre nodded slightly, and then looked in another direction.

The low bunkers built for convenience have now become fierce battlefields. The enemy seems to be looking for these bunkers with a plan. Once they break into the tunnel, the battle will become very difficult.

An encounter at close range without warning, with a large number of opponents, is not the strong point of the defenders of the Airanhill Empire.

In today's battle, the defense forces of the Airanhill Empire, which had lost its support and was gradually becoming overwhelmed, had lost control of the battlefield. For General Andre, this must be a very dangerous signal.

"Let General Adair lead his men to withdraw from the front line, take a rest, and then go to the battlefield in batches to solve the troubles in local areas... We no longer have the ability to fight back, so we can only let them serve as the fire-fighting team."

The adjutant spoke to persuade.

"Okay!" Andre nodded and agreed with the adjutant's suggestion: "In my name, let them withdraw!"
