1580 Victory in sight

In the underground headquarters, Andre was sitting in front of the map table, looking at the holographic map in a daze. The Watcher's troops were attacking the core areas. These areas were the strongest fortresses, and the enemy had to pay a heavy price for every step forward.

Almost all bunkers and bunkers are connected by underground tunnels, and some even have railroad tracks that can be ridden on the subway.

These core underground fortifications even give the watchers a headache, because the troops of the Elanthir Empire are hiding inside, like a swarm of ants.

The adjutant came over and reported to Andre Hui with regret: "General! We just lost our last fighter jet... The air force ground support force is already transferring spare parts and maintenance equipment."

"Okay, I understand." Andre nodded slightly. He knew that everything was now developing towards the final collapse.

The battle for Higgs 5 has reached this point. In fact, it has reached the end of its rope. Unless a miracle happens, these troops will be devoured by the watchers here.

Unless Chris expends energy to open a magic eye to bring them back, unless the Airanthil Empire space fleet once again launches a counterattack at the expense of losses and sends another group of troops to land.

Otherwise, Andre will follow the pre-designed script and become the first real high-ranking general of the Elanthir Empire killed in this war.

Of course, there is also General Adair of the Dragon Clan, but in terms of job duties, Adair and Andre are still one level behind.

Andre is an Imperial Lieutenant General, and Adair is an Imperial Major General. If both men are killed in battle, Andre may be promoted to Imperial General, while Adair can only be posthumously promoted to Imperial Lieutenant General.

The adjutant paused for a moment, and then continued: "In addition, General Adair has been fighting alone on Hill 12 for a whole day. Do you want reinforcements?"

Andre was stunned for a moment, then nodded and said: "Organize some troops to go over, from the ground staff and other personnel."

"Yes! General!" The adjutant stood at attention and saluted, turned around and walked out.

"Boom!" In a huge underground air raid shelter several stories high, behind piles of sandbags, an officer in Air Force uniform was carrying an M4 assault rifle and looked at the explosion not far away.

He turned around and shouted to a ground sergeant who was loading the rocket launcher next to him: "Hurry up, one more shot, the sweepers are going to attack from the entrance!"

"I'm a helicopter repairman! Damn it!" The clone ground crew with the QR code on his forehead shouted loudly while pushing the rocket into the rocket launcher: "Why don't you give me a disposable rocket launcher?"

The rocket launcher in his hand is an old-fashioned RPG rocket, an obsolete stock from before the Airansil Empire. Compared with those rocket launchers that are thrown away after one use, it is obviously not that easy to operate.

"Quick! They're coming!" The air force officer squinted through the gap in the sandbag and saw a black energy ball flying in from the billowing smoke and directly hitting a sandbag, blowing up the back.

of several soldiers.

"Thud, thud, thud!" Not far away, a soldier picked up his M4 assault rifle and fired at the dust and smoke in the distance. He didn't pull back until the magazine was empty.

"Damn! Another rocket!" The soldiers behind the sandbags on the other side saw the sweepers rushing out and shouted loudly while firing.

Following his shout, behind the air force officer, the ground crew officer put the rocket launcher on his shoulder again and aimed in the direction of the tunnel marking the entrance.

"Hoo!" He pulled the trigger, and the rocket's tail flames rolled behind him. The RPG rocket rolled around during its flight, and then exploded in the distance of the tunnel.

, setting off more smoke.

"Boom!" A sweeper soldier who rushed in poked his head out from his hiding place and fired an energy ball at the human defensive position.

This ball of energy exploded near a container where humans were hiding, blowing away the sandbags used as shelters and blowing up half of the container.

Bottled drinking water stored in the container was scattered on the ground, and water from broken bottles flowed along the ground, washing away the blood stains that had not yet dried up.

Inside the blasted sandbags, the filled rice grains poured down like gravel. Before these hoarded war preparation materials could be used up, the enemy had already attacked.

"Medicine! Medic!" In the corner, a soldier knelt down on one knee, pressed his hand on his bleeding comrade, and shouted loudly.

Unfortunately, no one answered his call, and the battlefield still echoed with fierce gunshots and explosions from time to time.

"Hold on! Man! Hold on!" The soldier, whose palms were stained red with blood, watched helplessly as his comrade was gutted and died vomiting blood.

While he was crying, he pressed his hand on the tactical vest of his comrade that was pierced by shrapnel. Blood spurted out from between his fingers, flowed along the gap between the magazines, and soaked the camouflage uniform.

Finally, the blood no longer spurted out like a spring, and the tense palm finally dropped and hit the stone floor.

The soldier, whose hands were covered with sticky blood, raised his head, and before he could stand up, he was hit by an oncoming energy bomb.

"Boom!" An explosion swallowed him and the corpse at his feet. The bloody and bloody limbs and broken arms were scattered everywhere.

"Ah!" Behind the temporary position near the entrance, a sweeper rushed into the temporarily dug trench. He pierced the chest of a soldier with his blade-like fingers, causing the soldier to scream hysterically.

"Grenade!" An officer not far from the trench retracted his head and shouted to the soldiers around him while changing the magazine.

Several soldiers tore off the grenades from their chests at the same time, pulled out the safety ring, and threw them into the trench. At the feet of several soldiers who were firing back in the trench, the grenades tumbled to the ground with a clanking sound.

"Boom! Boom! Boom!" A series of earth-shaking explosions reverberated throughout the underground bunker. The dust raised filled the air, and everything seemed to have fallen silent.

"Thud, tug, tug!" A second later, the assault rifle fired again, breaking the moment of tranquility.

"Isn't the machine gun position on the second floor still unable to fire?" In the dust, the air force commander looked at the second floor corridor surrounding the hall on the left, where there should have been a machine gun position.

This position is on the side of the entrance, and it is commanding. If this position fires again, they will definitely regain the advantage, and the enemy will definitely be pushed back to the entrance.

It's a pity that the position was blown up by the Watcher's troops just now, and it has not been repaired yet.

"Five people have already gone up. Maybe the machine gun is broken!" The ground crew officer who took out the last rocket from the ammunition box at his feet also looked in the direction of the second floor and replied in a loud voice.

"If reinforcements don't come, we will all die here today!" the officer said, pointing in the direction of the entrance.

There, the army of sweepers had already swarmed in, and some of the defensive positions in front had been lost one after another.

They are not regular combat troops, and their combat literacy is definitely not very high. It is actually a miracle that such a temporary army can persist until this point.

"Long live the Empire of Ireland!" When the air force officer spoke, a hysterical shout came from the direction of the entrance.

Along with that cry, the sound of seven or eight grenades exploding in succession rang out throughout the underground fortifications.

"Boom! Boom! Boom!" It was obvious that all the grenades in an ammunition box seemed to have been detonated. It was like firecrackers set off during the New Year, and they exploded continuously.

"I x!" Holding the big-brimmed hat on his head with his hand, the air force officer cursed and shrank his neck, letting the diffuse smoke swallow up everything nearby.

"Bullets! I need bullets!" He couldn't see clearly what was happening around him, and someone shouted nervously in the billowing smoke.

Similarly, in another direction, there are soldiers calling out to their comrades: "Medic! Someone is injured! Medic!"

"Thud, tut, tug!" Gunshots rang out again in the circular corridor on the second floor, and the reinforcements finally arrived at this desperate moment.

Logistics troops carrying rifles and ammunition filed in from the tunnel on the other side, and there were also a few regular soldiers wearing power armor interspersed among them.

"Establish crossfire at high altitudes!" An army commander hunched over and ran behind a bunker and ordered the soldiers carrying machine guns behind him.

Several soldiers nodded slightly, then rushed up to the second floor with their weapons and the assistant shooter carrying ammunition.

On the front, several soldiers wearing powered mechas walked swiftly with electromagnetic rifles, quickly forming an inner arc-shaped defense line.

Bullets coming from all directions defeated the sweepers near the tunnel. After leaving behind the bodies of hundreds of sweepers, the opponent's attack finally came to a halt.

"Now you belong to my 5117th Armored Division!" The gunfire gradually became sparse, and the army commander found the air force officer who was helping to bandage the wound of a wounded man.

Although the military rank is obviously higher than that of Air Force officers, unfortunately there is no Air Force on board Higgs 5 now.

The air force officer nodded, then breathed a sigh of relief and said, "I've finally waited for you! I'm an air force commander...I can't do this at all...you can just treat me as a soldier."

"Leave it to you!" The army commander was not polite and pointed to the second floor corridor above his head: "Find a way to establish more positions. The more three-dimensional the firepower, the better the effect we will have on holding on."

"It's useless. Soon they will break through the wall from all directions and come in. This is how our defense line was breached before." The air force officer reminded with a wry smile.

"I know that the other side will cut through the wall from the sides, top and bottom to attack us, but we are not vegetarians." The army commander pointed to a jeep driving through the tunnel behind him and said with a smile.

The jeep surrounded by two rows of soldiers was filled with dangerous explosives. That was their last resort and the most effective one.

"When we can no longer hold on, we will detonate this..." The army commander solemnly introduced his "super weapon": "Don't worry! When these things explode, all nearby tunnels will collapse and be destroyed. It will take ten days if we don't eat them."

, they can’t eat the next underground bunker node!”

"Ha! It's not bad! Let's go to the second floor!" The air force commander nodded with satisfaction, and then led the ground crew sergeant carrying a rocket launcher with damage reduction to the half-collapsed stairs leading upstairs.

A medical soldier was wrapping gauze around his thick arm. Adair waited expressionlessly while the other person treated his arm, listening to the intensive explosions outside.

The enemy's bombardment began to become more intensive than the bombardment of the Elanshir Empire. This was probably the most terrifying fire coverage bombardment that Adair had ever seen.

There are Prowler fighter jets hovering in the sky. As soon as they find a target, they will swoop down and launch a fierce attack, as terrifying as vultures looking for food.

At the same time, the Crusher bombers, like A-130 aerial gunships, also lingered. They also launched attacks on the ground, suppressing the artillery fire of the Elanthir Empire.

In the absence of anti-aircraft artillery cover, the artillerymen of the Airanshir Empire no longer dare to fire to cover their own frontline troops, because once they fire, they are likely to be killed.

Adair fought several times alone, destroying many Prowler fighters and Crusher bombers. However, such counterattacks were of no help. Assembling experts to carry out counterattacks would only cause more soldiers to die on the way to counterattack.

"General!" An officer walked into the room, stood at attention, saluted and handed a message to Adair: "Commander-in-Chief Andre has called, ordering you to retreat to the fortress on Highland 9!"

"I understand." Adair looked at the gauze on his arm and let out a long sigh: "Order the troops to assemble and take the subway train waiting here to go to Highland 9. The wounded and medical soldiers get on the train first. I

I’ll cut it off myself.”

"Yes! General!" The officer who delivered the message stood at attention and saluted again, going to convey Adair's order.

"Highland No. 9... If we retreat further, we will reach the core fortress..." Adair stood up and sighed in a voice that only he could hear.

Not far from him, another officer lowered his head and muttered in a low voice: "What two years and one year... The huge Higgs 5 only lasted less than 5 months!

"

In the middle of the shattered concrete fortifications of a highland fortress about 2 kilometers away from Highland No. 12, the flagpole that had been erected fell straight down. The scarred black eagle flag was torn apart by a group of sweepers and eaten.

A sweeper commander looked at the human positions in the distance among the densely packed army and let out an unpleasant laugh: "Victory... is in sight!"
