097 Haunted Mine

Because this mine has been abandoned for more than 20 years, nature has used this time to recover from the trauma caused by human mining: there are a large number of weeds growing densely on the very solid dirt roads that were previously crushed by coal trucks.

, the woods on both sides of the road that had been cut down by the coal mines that pumped water and used steam engines as fuel have grown again.

Lawrence, who was walking on the road holding a lantern, could only hear the rustle of the wind blowing through the woods and weeds, and only the continuous chirping of insects and the occasional calls of some nocturnal animals, especially the hoot of owls.

Ugly.

But from time to time, some traces of human activity emerge from the trees or grass nests on the roadside, such as a small pile of blackened and decayed wood piled on the roadside, or some tattered railings at a corner.

After all, when this mine was at its peak, it supplied 1/5 of the coal used in the slums of Eagle Fort. Although everyone who has used the coal produced here does not have a good opinion of the coal, they have to admit it.

It is the coal here that allows many families to survive the cold winter in Eagle Castle.

Even though the dirt road under his feet was very solid when it was rolled over by carts loaded with coal, it was severely damaged after decades of no maintenance. In some places, Lawrence even had to bend down and use a lantern to carefully examine the traces on the ground.

Only then can he determine the direction forward.

"Huh?" After Lawrence climbed up the last small hill before reaching the mine, he saw the mine gate appearing at the bottom of the slope. At this moment, suddenly a vague and cold breath began to slowly and covertly come towards him.

It spread over and made him feel like he was being targeted by a wild beast.

[Dark Vision] [Protection from Evil], Lawrence's first reaction when he felt something was wrong was to add two magic spells to his body. Then he extinguished the lantern in his hand and quickly moved a few steps to change positions while facing the cold breath.

Released a [Detect Undead] in the direction.

In an instant, several magical auras appeared in Lawrence's field of vision. These auras were distributed near the road from his current location to the entrance of the mine, and they looked as if they were preparing to ambush someone passing by this road.

"It wouldn't be that smart if you just force your way through." Lawrence stood there thinking for a while and then ran into the woods nearby. A few minutes later, with a burst of gunshots, he dragged his head with his limbs broken and opened his mouth to fight.

The howling wild boar came out of the woods.

Then he used a rope to tie the four hooves of the wild boar to its body while the wild boar howled unpleasantly, and then used a handy wooden railing pulled from the roadside to pry it hard.

In an instant, the tied, round wild boar rolled down the small mound and rolled towards the mine gate while howling at the top of his lungs.

Just as the wild boar approached the first place where the magical light just emitted, a patch of ground covered with weeds suddenly exploded from bottom to top, and a ragged figure burst out of the ground.

The figure's movements were a bit clumsy except for the moment when it broke out of the ground, so that when the wild boar rolled faster and faster under the influence of gravity, it didn't catch it at all. This made it can only try to catch it in a hurry.

He pulled out the part below his waist from the ground, and then limped to chase the wild boar.

"I thought it was something, but it turned out to be just some zombies!" Lawrence finally figured out what the monsters crawling up from the ground were. Looking at the work clothes on these zombies, Lawrence suddenly thought of the coachman just now.

The miners who died in the mines.

"But the problem is that the miners were obviously trapped in the mine when the mine collapsed. In the end, they didn't even get their bodies back. So why are they here now?" Lawrence thought of this and frowned as he looked at the hills.

The chaotic scene below. "It seems that this mine may not be as simple as it appears."

Under Lawrence's concerned gaze, the wild boar rolled all the way and hit the doorpost of the mine gate and stopped. Then the seven or eight zombies that had just been lured out howled and surrounded it. Suddenly, the roar of the wild boar and the zombies at the mine gate were heard.

The howls blended into one, as noisy as a busy intersection.

Seeing this scene, Lawrence originally planned to go directly and kill the chaotic group of guys below, but as soon as he was about to stand up, the rapid movement coming from the mine made him bend down and take two steps back to wait and see what happened.

Not waiting for a few seconds, a calf-like monster sprang out from the darkness inside the mine. It swooped over to the group of zombies surrounding the circle, raised its front paws, and knocked two of them away.

The zombie stood in front of it, and then it walked up to the wild boar, opened its mouth and bit it in one bite.

The howling of the wild boar stopped in an instant. While the zombie dog lowered its head and began to feast, Lawrence tiptoed forward a few meters, and then took out a single bag wrapped in cowhide from the space bag on his waist.

The monster was observed carefully through a brass telescope.

Through the crystal lens of the telescope, he found that the monster that appeared at the entrance of the mine looked very similar to a dog. Its yellow and black fur was in tatters and there were many scratches. But through these fur,

Lawrence could see the obviously abnormal blood-red muscles beneath the wound and the agate-like transparent blood vessels distributed on the muscles that beat like living creatures.

"This seems to be some kind of subspecies of undead dog." Looking at the dog-shaped monster that was focused on chewing the blood and flesh of the wild boar, Lawrence quickly connected it with the pattern on a certain book in his mind.

. Then he took off the rifle from his back and loaded it with an exorcism bullet. "Whatever it is, now is a good opportunity."

The moment the monster's dog's head was put into the sight, the undead dog below that was feasting suddenly raised its head and looked at Lawrence's position as if it had sensed something.

Suddenly, the figure holding a rifle on the top of the mountain came into view of the undead dog. But before it could make any move, it saw a flash of fire at the muzzle, and then it seemed as if a red-hot iron bar shot directly from its left eye.

The eye sockets went straight to the brain. It was only then that it heard a quick scream of wind.

"Woo--" After uttering a whine, the zombie dog that suffered a fatal attack fell to the ground. The small group of zombies surrounding the wild boar at the same time straightened up and turned to the direction of Lawrence, then roared and rushed over.

.

After killing the undead dog with one shot, Lawrence put the rifle on his back as before, then pulled out two pistols and faced the group of charging zombies.

When the zombie at the front rushed to a place five or six meters away from him, the pistol in Lawrence's hand rang out. As he opened his hands left and right, zombies one after another had blood exploding on their heads and fell to the ground.

If we put it in the past, these zombies this time would be difficult to destroy without extraordinary strength. Although they move at a speed similar to that of a person walking briskly, they can chase their target endlessly.

In addition, their strength is at least three to four times that of ordinary people and their rawhide-like skin gives them a great advantage in hand-to-hand combat. Especially the only weakness of zombies is their brains, and in the cold weapon era, regardless of

It is very difficult to open them through their fragile eyes or with force.

So in that dark age, there were many evil lichs whose main forces were zombies who were thick-skinned, extremely powerful, and unable to be afraid.

But with the invention and large-scale application of gunpowder weapons, zombies have gradually become more vulnerable. Because bullets can easily destroy their strong skulls, and their slow speed allows shooters to easily blow off their heads.

.

After eight gunshots, all the zombies fell to the ground. Lawrence also took the opportunity to activate the Bai Ze phantom in his body to harvest and purify the souls of these monsters.
