166. Xia Ran

The woman died, leaving only a name. Gu Zhuo didn't know who the name belonged to, her or the little girl in her arms.

But no matter what, Gu Zhuo still couldn't ignore this little girl.

He stretched out his hand and took the little girl out of the arms of the woman's corpse.

The little girl was wearing a white cotton coat, which was covered with dripping blood. Gu Zhuo checked and found that the blood was not from her body, but from that woman. There was nothing wrong with the little girl, but

Fainted.

She was very delicate, she looked eight or nine years old, but her complexion was pale. Against the backdrop of the blood, she looked even more like a fragile porcelain doll that would break if touched.

Gu Zhuo held her with one hand and got on the heavy motorcycle.

They galloped all the way back to the Doomsday Fortress. Seeing Gu Zhuo coming back, the few white wolves who were closely guarding the side gave way to a path.

After returning to the car with the little girl in his arms, both Chao Ying and Chao Ying came over to greet her. Seeing this scene, Gu Zhuo explained what had just happened.

"Let's take a look at the little girl's physical condition first, whether she is injured or not."

Chaoying suggested.

Gu Zhuo nodded and carried the little girl to the infirmary.

He put her on the bed in the infirmary and checked her body, but found nothing abnormal. She was just malnourished, which caused her to be very underweight.

"It's no big problem. Now we just need to wait for her to wake up."

After checking the little girl's body and making sure she was fine, Gu Zhuo breathed a sigh of relief.

The three of them waited on the spot, looking at each other.

No one knows the identity of this little girl, and no one has heard of the name Xia Ran. The only way to find out is when she wakes up.

Waiting until evening, Chaoying went to prepare dinner and Gu Zhuo went to patrol the surrounding areas, leaving Jia Sheng alone to watch the little girl.

Jia Sheng was a little bored and walked around the operating room. When his attention was completely distracted, the little girl opened her eyes silently.

"woke up?"

Seeing the little girl open her eyes, Jia Sheng raised his eyebrows and focused his attention again.

The little girl didn't speak. She just sat up from the operating bed, looked around blankly at the scene around her, and then looked at Jia Sheng warily.

Jia Sheng had no experience in dealing with children. He shouted to Gu Zhuo through the intercom:

"Gu Zhuo, the little girl is awake. Do you want to come over and take a look?"

Hearing that the little girl had woken up, Gu Zhuo responded and then hurried back from outside.

When he rushed back to the operating room, he only saw the little girl and Jia Sheng looking at each other, and the atmosphere was a bit awkward. Noticing Gu Zhuo's appearance, the little girl cast her wary eyes at him again, like a little beast.

.

"Don't be nervous, you don't have to be so afraid of us."

Gu Zhuo walked up to her and spoke to her in as low a voice as possible.

Like Jia Sheng, he has no experience in raising children.

The little girl didn't speak, but silently shrank back.

Seeing this, Gu Zhuo could only continue to ask:

"Xia Ran?"

This name worked. The moment she said the word "Xia Ran", the little girl cast a confused and more wary look.

After a long time, she spoke. Although her voice had the unique softness of a little girl, her tone did not fluctuate at all, and it sounded very cold:

"How do you know my name?"

Gu Zhuo recounted what happened today again, the crashed helicopter, all the people who died, and the dead woman who tried his best to protect her.

When she heard about the woman's death, the little girl's eyes darkened, revealing a look of confusion that befitted her age.

"Everyone... is dead..."

She murmured, lowering her head.

For a child, this is indeed a big blow, no matter how mature the child appears on the outside.

"This is indeed a sad thing, my condolences..."

Gu Zhuo didn't know how to comfort people, let alone children, so he could only say this in embarrassment.

He and Jia Sheng looked at each other, not knowing how to solve the difficult situation in front of them.

Fortunately, there was a woman in the car who had dealt with children. Chaoying heard that Xia Ran had woken up, so he brought a bowl of rice over, which was piled high with many fresh and hot dishes.

She handed the bowl of rice to Xia Ran, but Xia Ran remained motionless, with his head lowered, ignoring Chaoying's actions.

"Eat something, you must have been hungry for a long time."

Chaoying was not frustrated by the little girl's neglect, but said it gently, just like he used to coax his younger brother.

Xia Ran heard this gentle voice and raised his head to look at her. However, Xia Ran's expression was still dull, like a puppet on strings, losing all emotion.

Chao Ying raised his eyebrows and put the rice in front of her again.

Unexpectedly, Xia Ran reached out her hand and gently pushed away the bowl of rice in front of her. Her expression recovered from the sadness and dullness just now, and turned into a mature and cold look that was not for her age.

She asked:

"Which force do you belong to?"

Hearing this question, Gu Zhuo and others were caught off guard.

Xia Ran continues to:

"You are definitely not the military, nor are you the Prophet, and you don't look like any survivor force I know. So I want to know, which force are you from?"

Unexpectedly, Xia Ran could ask such a question at such a young age. It must be that the apocalyptic environment has fully matured her.

"We don't belong to any force, we don't cling to anyone, and we don't deliberately antagonize any party. Moreover, there was someone I knew on the helicopter that crashed. His name is Shi Yong.

"If I remember correctly, Shi Yong was one of the survivors at the Broadcasting Signal Station before. I have been there before and sent them several new members. One of the members is named Akashi. I don't know.

Do you recognize it?"

Gu Zhuo said so much, just trying to see if the blind cat could meet the dead mouse. After all, if the little girl is really from Shi Yong's side, then she might also know Akashi.

At this time, build more connections so that the little girl can trust herself more.

Sure enough, he really did run into him.

Hearing Akashi's name, the little girl obviously reacted:

"Is the Akashi you're talking about the one with a broken arm?"

"That's right."

Gu Zhuo nodded.

Hearing this, Xia Ran didn't speak. She took a closer look at the infirmary where she was, and found that it seemed a little different from other rooms.

She asked tentatively:

"Where are we now?"

"In my car."

Gu Zhuo answered her without hesitation.

"In the car!?"

Xia Ran was startled and asked quickly,

"Is it a big car that can accommodate people inside? It's very hard and has a lot of weapons. Let me think about the name...is it called the Fortress of Doom!?"

"Yes, you know?"

This time Gu Zhuo was shocked.

"I know! Are you brother Gu Zhuo and sister Chaoying?"

Xia Ran changed her cold attitude just now, and actually said the names of Gu Zhuo and Gu Zhuo with some anticipation, and affectionately added the titles of brother and sister.

"You know us?"

"We know you. Brother Akashi often mentions you to me."

[Author's digression]: Today's update is late. I have something to do during the day. I am currently working on the second chapter. I will post it after I finish it. I'm sorry, and I hope everyone can bear with me.
