Chapter 1718 Ancient Temple Temple

Very few people know about the ancient temple, and this must have happened a long time ago.

In ancient China, the competition between Taoism and Buddhism for believers was actually extremely fierce.

Buddhism even surpasses Taoism in some aspects.

When Buddhism was first introduced to China, the Tang Dynasty supported Buddhism and built temples everywhere.

Moreover, at that time, as long as they were officially recognized monks, they did not have to pay taxes or perform military service.

Of course, Taoist priests are actually similar.

But among the people, the influence of Buddhism is always greater.

This is also the difference between the beliefs of Taoism and Buddhism.

Tao talks about this life, Buddha talks about the next life.

For example, in ancient times, Taoism practiced immortality. Taoism paid attention to the present body. If you believe in Tao, you believe in eternal life. Things in the next life will be in the next life, and this life will be immortal.

Buddhism is just the opposite. The Buddha talked about the afterlife and advised people to be patient. It is said that if you commit evil in this life, you will pay for it in the next life. This life will be miserable, and you may not suffer in the next life. Buddhism places hope in the afterlife.

What was the situation of most people in ancient times?

The vast majority of them are poor people, and most of them live miserable lives. They believe in Buddhism, and as long as they don't commit evil, they will be able to enjoy happiness in the next life. This is so comfortable.

The Taoist practice of becoming an immortal is too far out of reach for these people.

Most people are still working hard to fill their stomachs. Who has the heart to practice the complicated Taoist scriptures.

Of course, the root cause is that people are lazy.

If you believe in Buddhism, as long as you don't do bad things, you can easily enjoy happiness in your next life.

If you believe in Taoism, you have to work hard to practice Taoist scriptures, and you still don’t know whether you can become an immortal or live forever.

No matter what the trade-off is, people of course believe more in Buddhism.

Most of the high-ranking officials believe in Taoism.

They don't have to run around for food and clothing and live a comfortable life. Naturally, they want to live forever and live such a comfortable life forever.

Lin Xiaofeng and others were in Egypt, and there was a dispute between Anubis and Osiris, the two gods of death.

Not to mention these two huge sects, which are also sects with completely different beliefs.

The beliefs of Buddhism and Taoism are completely opposite extremes, which also means that their relationship cannot be harmonious.

Therefore, there have been many conflicts between the two sides since ancient times.

Many people may start to wonder.

Then why are the current sects that slay demons from Longhushan and Maoshan?

Although there are occasionally eminent monks who will take action to slay demons, there is no temple or sect in Buddhism that can specialize in slaying demons like Taoism.

It is said that at the end of the Qing Dynasty, Buddhism at that time was extremely weak.

But there are also some sects that are responsible for slaying demons everywhere.

But then, something big happened.

The Empress Dowager Cixi at that time invited a well-known Buddhist monk at the time to come to Beijing to resolve her doubts.

Due to geographical reasons, the Forbidden City has extremely negative energy.

If the Emperor's power is high, these people will certainly not dare to do anything.

But when Cixi came to power and the emperor was young, those evil creatures below began to become restless.

After the eminent monk came to Beijing.

Cixi summoned him: "I heard that the master's Dharma is outstanding. How about destroying these things for me?"

The eminent monk replied: "These evil spirits were all people who died in vain in the Forbidden City. Their resentment persisted, which is why they became evil spirits. Let me destroy them, but I think it is more appropriate to save them."

When Cixi heard this, she became furious.

Of course, most of those who died in the Forbidden City were killed because they offended Cixi.

When the eminent monk said that these people died in vain, didn't he mean that he killed good people by mistake?

Moreover, when he said that these evil spirits should be eradicated, this eminent monk dared to refuse.

Immediately, Cixi ordered the monk to be skinned in front of the Forbidden City and tortured to death.

On the other hand, Cixi summoned the head of Maoshan at that time.

With this lesson in mind, what else did the then head of Maoshan dare to say?

Of course, he wiped out all the evil spirits in the Forbidden City without hesitation.

Unexpectedly, Cixi was still angry. She felt that these monks did not pay taxes, but had acquired land for the temple and asked them to do things themselves, and this was the case.

Therefore, Cixi ordered all parties to suppress these monks.

There were even officers and soldiers who met monks on the road and hacked them to death without being held accountable.

Buddhism's goal is to help the world and save people, but who could have dreamed of this, and Cixi took such revenge?

Moreover, under the pressure of Cixi from all sides, those eminent monks had to stay away from the capital and came to Leshan, Sichuan, where they built an ancient temple.

From that day on, most eminent monks chanted sutras with peace of mind, unless they encountered evil spirits and harmed people while walking outside.

They will not take the initiative to hear that there is an evil spirit somewhere, and then make a special trip to destroy it.

As time goes by, fewer and fewer people know about the ancient temple.

Lin Xiaofeng knew these things because Mao Linlong told him when he followed Mao Linlong.

"It seems that there are also Sakyamuni's relics in the ancient temple." Lin Xiaofeng said, "I will rush to the ancient temple right now."

A look of embarrassment appeared on Ling Xiao's face: "I have a special status, so I won't go to the ancient temple."

Lin Xiaofeng also showed understanding.

This is not surprising.

After all, Longhu Mountain, as the orthodox Taoist religion, has been fighting openly and secretly with Buddhism for so many years.

In other places, other people might still have some respect for him, the headmaster of Longhu Mountain.

If you go to the ancient temple and are not humiliated, you are lucky.

Wu Jiu thought for a while: "I'll leave this matter to you, and I won't follow you to the ancient temple."

"What." Lin Xiaofeng rolled his eyes at Wu Jiu: "You bastard."

"I have to go to my apprentice's place." Wu Jiu stretched out with a smile on his face.

"Apprentice?" Lin Xiaofeng looked Wu Jiu up and down: "When did you accept an apprentice?"

"The former head of Maoshan collected it for me for several years, and his name is Chen Hui." Wu Jiu said, "When the opportunity arises, I will introduce you to each other."

"Okay." Lin Xiaofeng nodded.

Later, he said: "I will book a flight back to Chengdu immediately."

After saying that, he left the office and walked towards the place where Xiang Zhu's body was.

When I first arrived here, I saw Jingshui sitting on a chair, staying here quietly.

Seeing Lin Xiaofeng turn around, Jingshui turned back: "Xiaofeng, are you back?"

"Well, thank you for your hard work." Lin Xiaofeng said gratefully.

Jing Shui shook his head: "It's not hard."

"I have to go back to Chengdu. You can stay here." Lin Xiaofeng said.

Jingshui said: "I'll go with you, that's where we just met."

"This time, I'm going to the ancient temple." Lin Xiaofeng touched the back of his head.

After all, Jingshui is a ghost. Those eminent monks in the ancient temple have who knows what kind of character they are. If they see Jingshui, they will fight.
