Chapter 400: Five Pillars

The village chief of Wuzhu Village is an old man named Li. He looks about sixty years old and is dressed like an ordinary farmer.

At this time, he came to the six of them with a teapot and poured cold water for them with a smile: "This is a cool spring in the mountains. Thank you for your hard work."

Lin Xiaofeng took it and took a sip. The water was sweet and delicious, and it felt very comfortable to drink.

Fatty Huang wiped the sweat from his forehead. He drank up the cold spring like a cow. Then he wiped his mouth and asked: "Village Chief Li, what are those five pillars on the top of the mountain? They look like lightning rods."

Village Chief Li waved his hand: "I don't know very well. Anyway, there have been these five stone pillars since I was a child. This is how our name Five Pillars Mountain came about."

After they finished their work, Village Chief Li invited them to his home for dinner and arranged accommodation for the six of them.

Village Chief Li's house is a mud-tile house with walls made of mud. This kind of house is extremely rare even in rural areas today.

The night in the mountains should have been a bit hot, but Village Chief Li's house was very cool.

Village Chief Li was busy for a while and made the meal.

Of course the food is not as delicious as in the city, but the vegetables are all grown by oneself and there are no additives or anything like that.

While eating, the six of them chatted animatedly.

These four freshmen are in the school basketball club, and they are often encountered when playing basketball.

After chatting for a while, Lin Xiaofeng thought of the strange dream and couldn't help but ask Village Chief Li: "Village Chief, has anything strange happened in the mountains recently?"

Village Chief Li: "Strange things? People in the village usually stay in the village except working in the fields. I don't know if there are any strange things in the mountains."

Lin Xiaofeng nodded after hearing this. Then, Village Chief Li said: "But if we really want to talk about it, there is a legend about the five stone pillars on the top of the mountain. I'm afraid that if I tell it, you city kids won't believe it."

Several people immediately asked Village Chief Li to talk about it.

Putting aside Fatty Huang and Lin Xiaofeng for now, these four freshmen are also very curious.

Village Chief Li said with a smile: "It is said that these five stone pillars were erected by a heavenly master hundreds of years ago to suppress evil spirits."

Lin Xiaofeng's heart moved and he asked: "Suppress evil spirits? Village chief, there are evil spirits in Wuzhu Mountain."

"I don't know either. I heard this from the old people in the village." Village Chief Li said, "I don't know the specific situation, but it's best not to go to the top of the mountain."

Lin Xiaofeng smiled and nodded: "Then let's continue eating."

After eating, several people squatted at the door and smoked a cigarette together. The village chief also arranged for the four freshmen to live in the homes of other villagers.

Lin Xiaofeng and Fatty Huang stayed at the village chief's house.

Nights in the mountains are actually quite boring. There is no TV or computer. Although there is a mobile phone, the signal is not very good.

This feeling is really isolated from the world.

Village Chief Li washed his feet early and went back to the bedroom to sleep.

Lin Xiaofeng was lying on the bed in a daze, really bored.

At this time, Fatty Huang slipped in from the door with a smile on his face: "Xiaofeng, Xiaofeng, look what I got."

After saying that, Fatty Huang took out two eggs. Lin Xiaofeng rolled his eyes at him: "Where have you been stealing?"

Fatty Huang: "This is not the result of sneaking around. The fellow villagers saw how hard it was to deliver supplies. I was smoking at the door just now, and an aunt insisted on giving it to me."

"Mountain people are basically honest." Lin Xiaofeng said, "Go to bed early. You have to help the village with farm work tomorrow."

Fatty Huang squeezed onto the bed, and Lin Xiaofeng felt the bed creak.

He said, "Fat man, why don't you make a bed on the floor? Village Chief Li is a nice person. It would be terrible if the two of you collapse someone else's bed."

Fatty Huang: "Look what you said, by the way, do you two want to go to the top of the mountain to see it?"

"You mean those five beads?" Lin Xiaofeng shook his head: "Forget it, if what Village Chief Li said is true, we'd better not approach them casually."

Fatty Huang: "What about that dream you had? If it's true, wouldn't it be better for both of us to figure out the situation first?"

"Let's talk about it after dawn." After Lin Xiaofeng finished speaking, he lay down. Fatty Huang suddenly said: "Xiaofeng, there is something under the bed."

After saying that, he got out of bed, tinkered under the bed for a while, and finally came out with a gray face, holding a blue book in his hand.

This blue book has a bit of history at first glance. It was made up of ropes. There are three words written on the cover: Five Pillars.

"What the hell is this?"

Fatty Huang patted the dust on the book.

Lin Xiaofeng said: "This should be similar to the county annals in ancient times, which specifically recorded the major events in Wuzhu Village before."

Speaking of this, Lin Xiaofeng said: "Show me."

I took the Five Pillars from Fatty Huang. This book was not in simplified Chinese, but in traditional Chinese. It was written with a brush, and many of the handwriting on it were blurred.

Lin Xiaofeng looked through it carefully.

There is no way to be careless. The history of this book can probably be put into a museum, but it will be torn up if you are not careful.

Finally, Lin Xiaofeng saw a page that specifically recorded the strange things that happened in Wuzhu Village.

In the 16th year of Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty, that is, 1751 AD, there were only about fifty households in Wuzhu Village at that time.

Only a small part of the land around Wuzhu Village is suitable for growing food.

The more than fifty households in the village are all hunters. All the precious land is used to grow rice, and the dishes are all delicacies from the mountains.

It is said that there was a hunter named Li Zhenbang at that time. He was more than thirty years old. He was good at bow and arrow and could be ranked among the best in the village.

One day, Li Zhenbang chased a rabbit and came to a cave.

After he entered the cave, he never came out again.

The people in the village searched for him for a long time before finding his body in the cave.

Li Zhenbang's body was completely dry, as if something had sucked all the blood out of him.

Then, white mist appeared and enveloped the entire mountain forest.

There were many bats in the white mist, sucking human blood, causing half of the people in Wuzhu Village to die.

Finally, a traveling Taoist priest passed by Wuzhu Mountain and found that there was a demonic fog on the mountain, so he went up the mountain to check.

According to the records of the Five Pillars, the Taoist priest did not know what method he used to erect five stone pillars on the top of the mountain to seal the monsters and prevent the mountain people from going near the top of the mountain every full moon night.

Year after year, this story has been forgotten by most people, but the iron law that you cannot go near the top of the mountain on a full moon night has been established.

After reading this story, Lin Xiaofeng calculated that tomorrow night will be the night of the full moon.

Fatty Huang was sitting by the bed, chewing an apple, and asked, "What does it say here? Is this monster powerful?"

"I don't know if it's serious or not." Lin Xiaofeng shook his head.
