Chapter 184 The first cassock

Monks have strict discipline and rarely chat with unrelated people. However, today’s Dharma conference is attended by eminent monks from all over the country and some devout and Zen-minded pilgrims. It is okay to talk about something related to Buddhism. In name only.

superior

We are talking about cassocks, but actually what everyone is arguing about is the attitude and method of spiritual practice.

What makes a good cassock? It means different things to different people.

Some masters who have seen through the world think that solemnity and elegance are enough. As for the material used to make the cassock, it does not matter. Buddhist disciples are not the kind of vain people who insist on using various precious things to tailor and decorate.

Others disagree. Since the Buddha statues all have golden bodies, it is understandable that the cassocks should be made of precious materials. Are the seven Buddhist treasures just mentioned? Of course they can be used on cassocks.

There are many similar opinions, but for the time being they all boil down to the debate between simplicity and luxury. Of course, the issue itself is actually a debate between ascetic practice based on strict disciplines and meditation based on obedience to nature. The right path of ascetic practice requires Buddhist monks to give up such things as fine clothes,

Eat three meals, sleep too much, and other worldly desires, work diligently, and practice the middle way of selflessness. These are all methods for Buddhist disciples to follow the Buddhist edicts, discipline their body and mind, work hard, and uphold the precepts to practice. As in the sutras

It refers to asceticism as a monk, asceticism as a Buddhist monk, etc. In addition, the Buddha also called the act of a Bodhisattva sacrificing his life for the Dharma as asceticism.

Since ascetics want to give up worldly greed such as good clothes, then as a cassock, it can cover the body and keep warm, plus it is a little dignified, so as not to be rude. Everything else is a manifestation of greed and affects spiritual practice.

Zen meditation pays more attention to spiritual practice, but is relatively free in form. Whether you are a monk or a person living at home, you can improve your life by practicing the Eightfold Path according to your own lifestyle.

realm,

Gradually reduce the troubles of troubles and the shackles of greed, anger, and ignorance; gradually let the mind purify and be liberated, so that you can move toward goodness and toward enlightenment and liberation.

Anyone who is determined to practice can gradually realize the extremely meaningful and valuable truths of enlightenment from these ordinary practices. Therefore, from the perspective of meditators, cassocks do not have to be simple or simple.

Wear whatever you want, whatever you have available. A simple linen cassock is fine, or a fine cotton cassock is fine, even one inlaid with gold and silver doesn’t matter. The seven Buddhist treasures are hung all around.

You are just a piece of clothing. You should eat, drink, and wear. You should have no worries and practice as you please. Buddhism is not monolithic. Individuals insist on their own opinions and no one can convince anyone. Fortunately, they are all the same.

Even if the eminent Buddhist monks have different views, they never blush or get into a fight with each other. They all express themselves calmly.

This is everyone's basic cultivation. On the other hand, this is also to give face to the host of Kofukuji Temple.

Since no one can convince anyone, as a monk, he naturally starts talking about cassocks and develops from simple cassocks to the Buddhist weapon refining method. From ordinary cassocks to magical weapons, it is naturally different. It is still the same.

There are various opinions, one says to bless the Pure Heart Mantra, purify the mind and calm the mind at all times, remove troubles and stop evil, and cultivate the mind and nature; the other says to bless the Heart Sutra to assist in cultivation.

OK; there are also people who want to use the means of slaying demons, exorcising evil spirits and dispelling enemies, and so on.

When Shen Fengshu and Yichen followed Master Zhen out, this was what was being said outside. The young monk Yichen got into trouble because of his Great Ming Mantra, causing the ceremony to stop. He did not dare to say a word and followed the master obediently. On the contrary,

When Shen Fengshu heard the discussion outside, he suddenly felt that the discussion was very good! If he could give himself a

If you wear a magic weapon that is blessed with the Great Ming Mantra all the time, doesn't it mean that someone is helping you to bless the Great Ming Mantra all the time? Even if the effect is not as good as Yichen's own casting, it can't be done anytime, anywhere without interruption!

This is a good idea. It seems that after the ceremony, you can talk to the real master. If that doesn't work, you can look outside to see if there are similar magical instruments that you can buy.

Master Liao Zhen did not stop. He took Yichen and Shen Fengshu to the center of the circle, and then apologized to a certain mage. Just now, it was Yichen's Great Ming Mantra that disturbed the mage's lecture. It was appropriate for him to apologize. The mage was also very generous. Du, not only did not blame Yichen, but also praised Yichen's practice of the Great Ming Mantra. It was not something that anyone could do to disturb him when he lectured on sutras. It was rare that someone as young as Yichen could cast the Great Ming Mantra. Looks good,

It is really rare that it shocked the whole temple.

After the little commotion, Shen Fengshu and Yichen listened to the arguments of the magicians with great interest. Shen Fengshu couldn't understand the Buddhist teachings, but he could still understand a little bit when they talked about the power of magical instruments.

A group of mage followers talked happily, but not everyone was convinced. They claimed to be chatting, but in fact they were secretly fighting each other in their words, tit for tat, and refused to give in. As the proprietor of Xingfu Temple, Master Liao Zhen was not surprised to see the distinguished guests quarreling. It's just a matter. Moreover, Shen Fengshu is standing by, listening to everyone's arguments, as if he is being left out, which always makes Master Zhen feel a bit rude. Others don't know Shen Fengshu's

He knew his identity very well. He was the biological brother of the Ice Fairy. It would not be good if he really neglected him.

"Donor Shen, you are not a disciple of Buddhism, nor do you practice Buddhist teachings. What do you think of cassocks?" Master Liao Zhen found an opportunity and naturally brought the topic to Shen Fengshu and asked casually.

"Me?" Shen Fengshu didn't feel slighted. He was listening to everyone's debate with interest. Suddenly the question came to his head. Shen Fengshu was also stunned for a while: "I am not a Buddhist believer. Is it appropriate for a junior? ?" None of the mages and believers could convince the other. At this moment, they suddenly heard Master Zhen calling Shen Fengshu's name, and they were all surprised. However, this young man was not a Buddhist believer, and it seemed that he had a close relationship with Master Zhen. Shallow, everyone thinks

To be fresh, maybe listening to outsiders’ opinions is also a good reference?

"Appropriate!" Master Liozhen said with a smile: "We are just discussing within the Dharma. Maybe you can give me some new revelations."

"That's the case, junior is brave!" Seeing Master Zhen's encouraging eyes, Shen Fengshu was not afraid of the stage. He apologized first, and then said: "Junior doesn't understand Buddhism, if there is something inappropriate to say, , please also ask Master Haihan."

"Amitabha!" A group of magicians chanted the name of the Buddha in unison. A young man was humble and polite. Even if he said it wrong, it would not cause any harm.

"I don't understand Buddhism, and I don't understand cassocks!" In the eyes of everyone, Shen Fengshu said: "However, I have heard of two cassocks, maybe I can explain them to the masters!"

Telling stories? Interesting! Many masters like to tell Buddhist stories when they promote Buddhism. Unexpectedly, a young man outside the Buddhist teachings actually uses storytelling to teach a group of masters.

"The first cassock is said to be given by the Buddha. Of course, it is just a story. Do not take it seriously." Shen Fengshu was cautious and mentioned it emphatically, lest he be accused of blasphemy against the Buddha.

No one cared about this with Shen Fengshu, everyone just listened quietly. The cassock given by the Buddha? This topic attracted the attention of many people.

Speaking of cassocks, the first thing Shen Fengshu thought of was the brocade cassock given by Tathagata Buddha to pilgrims in "Journey to the West". "It is said that the brocade cassock was given by Buddha. Take the cassock to avoid falling into reincarnation, perdition, hell, evil, and tigers and wolves." Shen Fengshu directly said the original words in "Journey to the West"

."This cassock is draped with a strand of dragon to avoid the disaster of being eaten by silkworms; a strand of crane is draped to achieve the wonder of transcending the world and becoming a saint. But where you sit, there are thousands of gods paying homage; whenever you move, there are seven Buddhas with you. This cassock is made of ice silkworms. Practicing silk drawing, skillful craftsmen twist and turn into threads. Fairies weave it, goddesses machine it. Square clusters of embroidery stitches, pieces of each other are piled with brocade. Exquisite and scattered makeup flowers, the color is bright and shining, and it is full of treasures. The body is surrounded by red mist, and a section of colorful clouds are flying. A mysterious light shines outside the Three-Day Gate, and the treasure aura is born in front of the Wuyue Mountain. Passion flowers are embedded heavily, and the hanging beads are shining like stars. There are night-light pearls on the four corners, and an emerald on the top. Although it does not have the original body of full illumination, there are eight treasures that generate light. This cassock is folded when you are free, and you can wear it when you meet a saint. If you fold it when you are free, it will be wrapped in thousands of layers and see through the rainbow. Only when you meet a saint, you will wear it, which will scare the gods and ghosts in the sky. There are Ruyi beads, Mani beads, Dust-free beads, and Wind-fixing beads. There are also red agate, purple coral, luminous pearls, and relics. The moon is white, competing with the sun for red. The sky is filled with fairy aura, blooming. The auspicious light holds the saint.Tiaotiaoxian

The air fills the sky, shining through the sky; the auspicious light holds the saint, and the shadows are all over the world. The mountains and rivers are illuminated, tigers and leopards are frightened; the islands are reflected, fish and dragons are moving. There are two gold locks along the edge, and the white jade congs are knocked on the rings.

The poem says:

The Three Jewels are majestic and venerable, the four births and six realms are all commented upon. The clear mind understands the laws of man and heaven, and the ability to see the power transmits the lamp of wisdom.

The body is protected by a majestic golden world, and the body and mind are purified by jade pots of ice. Ever since the Buddha made the cassock, who in all the eons will dare to kill the monk?"

The following paragraph was spoken by Shen Fengshu completely in the tone of storytelling, a series of parallel prose dialogues, and at the end there was a poem that said, "The words are articulate and the words are correct. It is really eloquent and the tongue is blooming. If the listener is on the earth, The audience on Earth will definitely clap and applaud Shen Fengshu's performance, which is like a cross talk. This is not the Earth, but a group of mages and believers have obviously never heard such a performance.

I was so mesmerized. Especially what Shen Fengshu explained. Many mages became very interested as soon as they heard that they would not fall into perdition, hell, evil, or tigers and wolves, and they were even more interested in the content that followed. Seriously. While listening, I was still thinking about this.

Does such a cassock really exist?

"If there is such a cassock, can it be considered a good cassock?" After speaking in one breath, Shen Fengshu waited for everyone to think about it for a while before asking.

"You are really talented in literature!" Master Liozhen woke up from his pondering, looked at Shen Fengshu and exclaimed: "If there is such a beautiful cassock, I'm afraid it is the most precious treasure of my Buddhism!" For a time, no matter whether it was persistence or suffering, Those who practice meditation or those who insist on meditating all nod to this and fully agree. If it is really a cassock given by the Buddha, I am afraid that only this gorgeous and majestic cassock can represent the style of the Buddha. Otherwise, can it really be given by the Buddha?

Will the next linen cassock, which has no magical powers, be used for penance? Everyone was talking about it. Master Liao Zhen waited for everyone to discuss it for a while, and then asked: "What about the second cassock?"
