Chapter 39: Fan Heng's Mission
During these days in Guangzhou, Fan Heng seemed a little worried.
One of the reasons is naturally because Fan Wubing was involved, and the second reason is that he came to inspect Tongfeng Company for a few days and felt something.
In recent years, the days of state-owned enterprises have been difficult!
Take Fan Heng’s Pingyuan Machinery Factory as an example. It is a military-industrial enterprise. It is relatively better. The military orders can basically maintain the basic operation of the factory, but it is difficult to develop greatly. After all, since the past few years, the main tone of the country’s foreign propaganda has been peaceful coexistence, so this military issue cannot be too relaxed to avoid giving the population to a solid level.
Pingyuan Machinery Factory is an enterprise that provides ship-based weapons to the Navy. Simply put, it specializes in producing a torpedo.
Torpedo is a weapon used in the water in naval battles. After being launched, it can control the navigation direction and depth by itself. When encountering a ship, it can explode as soon as it comes into contact. It has the characteristics of fast navigation speed, long range, good concealment, high hit rate and great destructiveness. It can be said to be a "water missile".
The targets of torpedoes are mainly warships and submarines, and can also be used to block ports and narrow waterways. The front is a lightning head, equipped with zha medicine and fuses; the middle is a lightning body, equipped with navigation and control devices; the rear is a fish tail, equipped with power devices such as engines and thrusters, and the power system energy is gas and electricity, respectively. According to different needs, torpedoes are divided into three types: large, medium and small. Large torpedoes with diameters of more than 533 mm; medium torpedoes with diameters of between 400 and 450 mm; small torpedoes with diameters of less than 324 mm. Torpedoes are mainly carried by ships, and can also be carried by aircraft if necessary.
At the beginning of World War I, torpedoes were recognized as the main weapon of ships second only to artillery. During World War I, transport ships sunk by torpedo reached 11.53 million tons, accounting for 89% of the total tonnage of the sinked transport ships; 162 ships, accounting for 49% of the total number of sunk ships. During World War II, transport ships sunk by torpedoed reached 13.66 million tons, accounting for 68% of the total tonnage of the sunk transport ships; 369 ships, accounting for 38.5% of the total number of sunk ships.
Compared with missiles, the role of traditional torpedoes has great limitations. They are only suitable for attacking sea surface ships or shore-based fortifications, or for offensive methods used for submarines under the sea. Unlike missiles, they can be used in the sky, groundwater, and their combat radius is much smaller than that of missiles. If it is not for the particularity of deep water combat and the low price, this thing is probably in the elimination stage.
Due to historical reasons, domestic torpedo weapons are basically in line with the torpedo developed by the Soviet Union, and their technical performance is only on the thermal torpedoes in the early 20th century, commonly known as steam gas torpedoes.
In foreign countries, the development of torpedo technology can be described as rapid changes.
In 1938, Germany first equipped submarines with trackless electric torpedoes, which overcome the shortcomings of thermal torpedoes being easily discovered during navigation due to the exhaust gas forming tracks. In 1943, Germany developed a single-plane passive acoustic self-guided torpedoes, which can receive water and the noise of the ship automatically guided torpedoes, which increased the hit rate. At the end of World War II, Germany invented line-guided torpedoes, and launched ships were guided through wires connected to the tail of the torpedo, which were not easily disturbed.
In the mid-1950s, the United States made a dual-plane active acoustic self-guided torpedo (also known as anti-submarine torpedo), which can search in three-dimensional space in the water to attack submarines. In 1960, the United States first developed the "Asrok" rocket assisted torpedo (also known as anti-submarine missile), which was carried by rockets to a predetermined point and entered the water to automatically search, track and attack submarines. After the 1970s, the torpedo adopted a microcomputer to improve the function of the self-guided device, strengthening the ability to anti-jamming and identify targets. Its speed has been increased to 90-100 kilometers per hour and a range of 46,000 meters. Although the status of the torpedo has been reduced due to the emergence of anti-ship missiles, it is still an important weapon of the Navy. Especially in attack submarines, torpedo is the most important attack weapon.
In the past, Fan Heng was limited to his identity level and only did his job as a responsible for the assembly of torpedo weapons. Now that the level has been improved, the internal information he saw has also been more. After learning about the huge gap between home and abroad, the shock in his heart is indescribable.
How domestic military-industrial enterprises should survive and develop is a big question, and it is not something that cadres at Fan Heng can decide, but this does not affect his thinking about this issue with his own mind.
The torpedo technology of the Plain Machinery Factory naturally originated from the Soviet Union and later developed part of it. Since Sino-Soviet relations have been hostile since the 1960s, technological progress has been very limited, and the gap with developed countries is getting bigger and bigger. Since the beginning of this year, Sino-US relations have gradually heated up. After some technology has been lifted, the country has also developed electric torpedoes on its own, and the effect is not good, but compared with other people's latest torpedoes, it is obviously not on the same level.
At the beginning of this year, the self-defense counterattack against Vietnam broke out. The continuous strike for one month made Vietnam safer, and the battle on the sea also achieved certain results, especially the capture of a complete new Soviet torpedo. The military was very proud of this and immediately pulled the torpedo back to Guangzhou for anatomical research, in order to obtain key core technologies.
The inspection team led by Fan Heng mainly came to Tongfeng Company for contact and absorb advanced experience. It is also a military-industrial enterprise under the Ministry of Machinery Industry. Naturally, there is nothing to be entangled in the issue of confidentiality. The key is to see that the technical strength in that aspect is stronger and the results obtained are naturally more abundant.
Although Fan Wubing's incident caused some trouble to Fan Heng, he took the lead in his work and brought the best technical force in the factory. He could not let his colleagues from Tongfeng Company, who are brothers, see a joke.
