Chapter 4 The Prince of Buddha
Coming up behind Daoxin like a thief, Wang Sheng followed the example of other monks and stood up straight, and whispered: "Master, I'm here."
Dao Xin didn't seem to hear it, but Dao Xin's voice came from deep in Wang Sheng's heart.
"Listen carefully to the hosts talking about Buddhism, and think carefully about it without neglecting it."
Wang Sheng looked up curiously. At this time, two monks were debating with each other in the hall. Here was a gatha and there was a Buddhist theory. He couldn't understand what they were saying. Anyway, it sounded very reasonable.
He was very irritable and bored. After listening to only two sentences, Wang Sheng couldn't listen anymore.
When I was bored, a voice sounded from the bottom of my heart.
"Junior brother Huiming, I am your senior brother Hongren, standing next to you." The voice was quite friendly.
The Fifth Patriarch Hongren? Huineng’s master?
Wang Sheng was immediately excited. He turned his head and looked around. Next to him was a middle-aged monk with thick eyebrows and big eyes. He was not angry and proud. He was wearing simple monk robes. He was listening to the debate in the hall with a serious face. It seemed that the voice had just been transmitted.
Not him.
"Character: Hongren, a disciple of Zen abbot."
"Level: Yuan Shen."
He has actually reached the realm of Yuanshen, worthy of being the Fifth Ancestor! Wang Sheng sighed.
The Fifth Patriarch was quite enthusiastic and actually deserted like him. He opened his mouth to say hello back, but then Hongren sent a message again.
"Junior brother, it's better not to look around. The hall is filled with Buddhist hosts from all over the country, all of whom are senior Buddhists. We must not be rude."
Wang Sheng turned his head bitterly, not daring to continue.
"Haha, junior brother, I must have just entered the practice of spiritual practice, and you still don't understand the spiritual power of his mind. You only need to recite senior brother's name silently in your heart, and senior brother can hear what you say." Hongren continued.
Wang Sheng curiously tried in his heart, "Senior Brother Hongren, Senior Brother Hongren, if you hear this, please answer."
"Haha, I didn't expect that junior brother still retains his innocent heart."
You can really hear it! Wang Sheng was immediately excited.
"Hello, senior brother, I am Wang Sheng. I have admired you for a long time. When I saw you today, your demeanor is really different. Please take good care of me in the future."
This is a conversation with a famous figure in history, and it makes me excited to think about it.
"Junior brother, I praise you. I am just a foolish monk, but I am a junior brother. When I first entered Zen Buddhism, I was taught the mantle by my uncle Daosheng. I also heard the conversation between my junior brother and my uncle. It is really exquisite. I am really born with the bones of the Buddha." Hongren.
Very humble, he turned to praise Wang Sheng.
Wang Sheng was a little embarrassed. He didn't expect that he would plagiarize other people's wisdom and be praised. He was about to reply when he heard another voice coming from the bottom of his heart.
"Listen to the Fa carefully and don't get distracted." It was actually Master Daoxin. He could actually hear the conversation between their brothers, and his tone was a bit stern.
Wang Sheng straightened up subconsciously. For some reason, he felt an inexplicable sense of awe towards Dao Xin.
Not daring to communicate with his senior brother any more, he could only force himself to listen to the Dharma taught by the eminent monk in the temple, but after listening for a while he was so confused that he almost fainted.
He couldn't help but squint at the other monks in the hall, but found that everyone was listening carefully, and they seemed to be fascinated by some huge understanding.
But he felt as if these eminent monks were arguing in another inscrutable language.
Finally, after half an hour, all the sitting monks seemed to have finished speaking. This small Dharma lecture seemed to be coming to an end, and Wang Sheng felt refreshed.
At this time, his master Daoxin slowly stood up and said, "Now that the lecture on Buddhism has been completed, let's get down to business. Regarding the matter of rescuing Master Xuanzang, we still need to discuss a charter."
"Senior brother is absolutely right." The one who agreed was the abbot of Tiantai Sect. He continued: "But before that, I want to ask senior brother a question: Did senior brother Daosheng of your temple pass away yesterday?"
This sudden inquiry made Abbot Daoxin look stunned. In response, he nodded with a sad look on his face, "Senior Brother Daosheng did pass away yesterday, but Senior Brother has reached perfection in this life and has no regrets when he leaves. He has found the successor of his mantle."
As soon as these words came out, all the eminent monks in the hall were shocked. The Zen killing god who was not an Arhat but was better than an Arhat actually passed away.
Wang Sheng's breathing was also stagnant. The old monk who taught him the exercises was actually dead!
The leader of the Tiantai Sect was silent, and then he continued, "I also heard that Senior Brother Daosheng called his successor a disciple of Zen Buddhism. Is this true?"
Wang Sheng was stunned. He did remember that the old monk seemed to have said that the Zen sect was fortunate to have Buddhist disciples.
Daoxin didn't speak, he just put his hands together and whispered the name of the Buddha, "Amitabha."
This was equivalent to his acquiescence, and the eminent monks in the hall were immediately in an uproar. The Zen sect had actually named a new Buddhist disciple, and they had no idea about it.
You must know that the title of Buddhist disciple is not trivial. Even if you are just a Zen Buddhist disciple, you need to be tested by the abbots of at least three nearby Buddhist temples before you can be awarded the title.
Once granted the title, the Buddhist disciples will have the same status as the presiding abbots of the Golden Elixir Realm, and their status can be described as respected.
"Brother Zen, I wonder if this Buddhist disciple can pass the test of asking Buddha." The person who spoke was the Tantric Master.
The so-called test of asking the Buddha is the questioning of three Buddhist abbots that the Buddhist disciples need to go through. The three Buddhist abbots ask the questions. If the Buddhist disciples can answer to the satisfaction of all three, they can be successfully ordained. Otherwise, if one of them is dissatisfied, then
Cannot be sealed.
Abbot Daoxin shook his head, "The matter is in a hurry and there is no time to proceed."
For some reason, Wang Sheng suddenly felt nervous inside, as if something bad was going to happen to him next.
Sure enough, the head of the Tiantai Sect nodded, and then he suddenly looked at Wang Sheng and stared at him closely.
"If the poor monk guessed correctly, this nephew should be the successor of senior brother Daosheng and a candidate for Zen Buddhism."
Daoxin nodded slowly, and Wang Sheng's bad premonition worsened.
Sure enough, the head of the Tiantai Sect continued: "Since my nephew is also present, and there are more than three abbots present, how about we conduct the test of asking the Buddha here? As for the matter of Master Xuanzang, it is not easy to discuss it with these juniors here, so why not
Put it after the test of asking Buddha."
The monks in the hall were stunned. They were actually asked to take the test of Buddha. This was no small matter. They should have been more prepared. Moreover, they all looked at Wang Sheng. They were all surprised. They did not expect this humble little monk.
He is actually a candidate for Zen Buddhism.
Wang Sheng was very nervous. Why was he really involved? And who was he?
He felt that his face was burning, so many people were staring at him as if they wanted to eat him alive, especially the younger generation of monks brought by the abbots, who looked at him with eyes full of dissatisfaction, jealousy and doubt.
What kind of hatred did the old monk of Tai Sect have against him that day? Wang Sheng was filled with grief and anger.
"Yes, Brother Zen, why not take advantage of the rare gathering of all the abbots to conduct this test of Buddha inquiry. If we can choose a Buddhist disciple, it will also be a blessing to my Xiniu Hezhou Buddhist sect." The Tantric Master suddenly spoke in agreement.
All the eminent monks looked at the Tantric Master with strange expressions. When did he wear the same pants as the Tiantai Sect?
This is not a good product either, Wang Sheng cursed in his heart.
"Amitabha!" Daoxin was silent for a moment and proclaimed the Buddha's name. "Since you all have made great demands, I can't refuse. Huiming, please stand up and accept the Buddha's questions from all the senior Buddhists here."
Daoxin actually agreed! Wang Sheng was trembling in his heart, why did the master agree, and how did he know what this Buddha question was.
"Junior brother, there is no need to be nervous. With your qualifications, it is not difficult to pass this Buddhist examination." Senior brother Hongren comforted him through a message from the bottom of his heart.
Wang Sheng became even more nervous. Where did he get his qualifications?
"In this case, let the poor monk serve as the Buddha's questioner, and the brothers will be responsible for assessing how it goes." The head of the Tiantai Sect said in a low voice.
The person who asked the question was naturally the one who asked the question. Although the senior monks in the temple felt strange, no one objected. They all saw that the head of the Tiantai Sect seemed to be a little targeted at this Zen Buddhist disciple today, and they did not want to interfere with it.
Wang Sheng swallowed dryly, as there seemed to be no way out now.
"Master Nephew, are you ready?" the head of the Tiantai Sect asked.
With everyone watching, Wang Sheng could only nod helplessly even though he was nervous.
"Then let's get started." The leader of the Tiantai Sect clasped his hands and looked up at Wang Sheng, "Today's Buddha question is very simple. The poor monk wants to know what my nephew thinks of Buddha."
What is Buddha? The young monks in the temple all found it very strange. Is this the test of asking Buddha? It seems very simple.
However, the older generation of monks all shook their heads. This question is easy to say. Anyone who worships Buddha can tell some Buddhist principles, but it is difficult to say because the standards are different.
The answers that ordinary people may give only need to be qualified, but if you want to become a Buddhist, the answers you give must impress at least three abbots to pass the test, so what you say must be novel and meaningful.
The Buddha in my heart? Wang Sheng was stunned, why does it sound like a college thesis defense?
"The Buddha in my heart is the Buddha in my heart." He muttered nervously.
"Exactly what it is, my nephew, please tell me clearly."
Wang Sheng was covered in cold sweat and was about to make a few nonsense words to get through. At this moment, he suddenly noticed a flag fluttering in the wind outside the main hall. His eyes lit up, he calmed down and coughed dryly and said: "The Buddha in my heart is a
Heart!"
Xin? The monks in the temple all looked puzzled. This answer can be described as moderate. Is this the level of the so-called Buddhist disciples?
Wang Sheng stretched out his hand and pointed to the flag, "Everyone, please look at the wind flag outside."
The monks in the hall all turned their heads and saw that the flags were red and fluttering in the wind.
Without waiting for others to react, he clasped his hands in a pretentious manner and continued: "The day before, I heard two senior brothers in the temple arguing about an issue. They watched the clothes they were drying fluttering in the wind. One senior brother said it was the clothes moving, and the other senior brother said
It was said that the wind was moving, and the young monk was very confused when he heard it."
"Is it the wind that is moving or the clothes that are moving? It seems that both are moving. The young monk was very confused and couldn't figure it out. But after experiencing the test of the Buddha today and seeing the flag floating outside the temple, the young monk suddenly realized it." See.
The eminent monks in the hall were all waiting for him to have an epiphany, but at this moment Wang Sheng gave up.
"But before telling the answer, the young monk dares to ask all the uncles and brothers to think about this question." Wang Sheng said in a loud voice.
By this time, Wang Sheng was confident and very calm.
